Basically I've been excited about the following bands releasing their latest album, but to be disappointed immediatly after purchasing/listening to. Here is my list off piss-offs this year:

Behemoth-Demigod : I absolutly hate the vocals, therefore the album is terrible I.M.O

Morbid Angel - Heretic : Pre-Ordered this album, its TERRIBLE and I am a HUGE fan of them. They actually WERE my favorite all time band before this.

Bloodbath - Nightmares : New Vocalist sucks (compared to previous) and the music is over amplified and overdone.

Children of Bodom - New Cd.... Downloaded a few songs and they are fucking horrid. I WAS a huge fan of these guys. They are getting out of the whole melodic struture and playing straight out thrash/speed shit with disgusting mainstream sounding "vocals" if you would even call it that.

Opeth - Ghost Reveries : Dislike the boringness and overall lack of songs. I dont count those shitty acoutic tracks as being "songs", although I do find the Damnation album to be very good so being acoustic is not the problem. Each song has very few changes, they contain the same few riff patterns all the way through.

Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked : This album is the best Extreme Metal cd I could find this year, but it still sucks compared to previous releases such as Darkened Shrines which I would take any day over Annihilation. The sound quality though, is very very good! Lashed To The Slave Stick is a deadly tune.

Hate Eternal - I Monarch : Another disaster of an album. Reading all of the pre-release reviews, one would assume that this would be one great cd filled with outstanding songwriting and structure. Once I had my first listen to the disc, I was so dissapointed that I had actually waited for this shit. The rhythm is TERRIBLE and extremely repetitive. There is absolutly NO structure whatsoever. Its a bunch of shit blended on top of each other.

Meshuggah - Catch 33 : This one took me a long time to accept. Gone are the days of songs. Now, there are basically 2 songs making up a total of 13 trakcs. The same guitar riff and offbeat repeats from track 1-4.... then there is a slight change and a bunch of other weird stuff. I give them credit for originality. For listenability, I give them Nothing.

Am I just getting old not being able to accept these new albums? Where has the sound of Morbid Angel - Covenant gone to? Where are the complex guitar riffs without stupid goddamn blast beats around every corner? Its getting really hard to accept this speed competition that every band is doing. A Blast Beat has NO rhythm whatsoever, its just noise if you do it all the way through a song.

Please Post Your Opinions on New releases that you have been anticipating.... only to be dissapointed after listening to it. Please don't post crap that nobody cares about.

Resurection Through Carnage is the older CD.
The Tone on the new album (Nightmares) is MUCH better.
So either you are comparing Mike to the new CD, where it is someone else. Or comparing him to himself on the Breeding Death EP.

The new Hate Eternal, Nile, Meshuggah, and Behemoth are sleepers? In my opinion ... the new Hate Eternal, its their best, the new Nile, their second best, the new Behemoth, their best, and Meshuggah ... you can't really compare this one to any of their previous works. Which means its Meshuggah

And I personally love Heretic. The song "Enshrined By Grace" just makes it for me.

Oh, the new Vile CD is a bit yawn worthy.

Circle of Dead Children (thanks to Nihlly) - Zero Comfort Margin: Human Harvest is definatly a terrilby hard album to top, but this just isn't up to CODC standards. The song writing isn't up to par and the recording quality is a huge setback.

The Red Chord - Clients: When I buy a Red Chord CD, I want The Red Chord! They're missing alot of their best elements instead of elaborating on them and adding more. It's not terrible, it just bores me. The songs are much less memorable.

Opeth - Ghost Reveries: I already explained it in the thread. Basically, I feel like I already own 5 copies of it.

I remain hopefull that the Cryptopsy won't suck.

I loved the new Nile album a shitload at first, but now I find it a bit too long-winded, as I did with Shrines. I still like both albums though.

I can't understand why people are so goddamn pessimistic about the new Cryptopsy. Even if it isn't their best album, it will fucking kill 99% of the other shit released this year.

I agree with everything john said, except for meshuggah, as I don`t really like them at all. The new Hate Eternal and Nile are in my opinion something of the best to come out of death metal 2005 so far.

Fear Factory's new album Transgression is pretty lame & i havent heard anything in about a year thats worth listening to. My friend & fellow musician keeps telling me to get into newer stuff like Converge, Every Time I Die & stuff like that but i just cant get into gay-metal.

Yeah ive heard the new FF album is pretty bad. Even die hard fans are saying theres about 3 really bad songs on it.

I don't know, most of the albums or bands you listed have got me back into death metal again. I grew tired of the scene to some extent in the mid 90's as it became flooded with pale imitators but now I find it contains bands worth getting excited about again. Maybe it was just me who needed a break from it and to come back with fresh ears? Maybe that's all you need to do?

Converge is so far removed from being considered 'gay metal' that you can only see them due to the gravitational lensing caused by the almighty effects of a black hole.

What are the genre?

Jane Doe is classic. When that record came out, it was henceforth established that Converge were in their own league.

They're lumped in with DEP and the like but they're far more abrasive.

Annihilation of the Wicked is great, everything I expected. In my head it's not the same level as In Their Darkened Shrines but it's not trying to be either. One of the few extreme metal releases I really like so far this year.
As for the Demigod vocals, I hated them too for a good while. It took about 5 weeks of occasional listenings to Conquer All and Xul to let them sink in ok. Although they are way too fucking loud still.
Edit: And I really wish the vocals would be cleaner, the songs are much better when you KNOW the lyrics or are reading them...

I've read some positive reviews of this CD, but the new Fear Factory really sucks.

I would like that band a lot more if they had a different vocalist.All I've heard of them was from a live festival,so he may just suck live.

Converge is fucking awesome. In no way should it be anywhere near the name "Everytime I Die" and niether should you be near your friend.

Ok... first off, to me that Nile album was terrific. One of the best shit released so far. I definately like this better than all their other albums, this one is much more better sound quality wise, brutality-wise, and the song writing is just awesome as hell.

Darkened Shrines lacked that very thick guitar tone they had on their previous albums, and with this album they went back to their Catacombs' style of tone.

yeah the new disc is really weird... it sounds nothing at all like anything else they've done. The drumming is really weak and the guitar tone is very thin sounding. Vocals sound like first take. Im starting to listen to Norther.... a comparable band but they make pretty boring music if you compare the two.
