Just got a gym membership to a 24 hour gym. Seems nice, except for the fact they don't have a non-smith weight bench!

what I meant is it take strength but I never really saw any gain from it. that could be more or less from the lack of calories though.

d&q, I think it would produce more usable muscle than just pretty muscle and also improve co-ordination because it's like real working motions. Not knocking any workout regimes. Just my own observation.

Today's Routine:
- 2 reps of driving a little under two miles.
- 3 reps of drinking 1 beer.
- 15 reps of sitting in one spot for 10 minutes.
- 1 rep of taking a shit.
- less than 2,000 calories consumed! Definitely pushing my limits there.
- apprx 100 reps of sending AND receiving a text message.
- 2-3 hour-long reps of playing guitar.
- 1 rep of eating a small bag of Fizzl'd Fruits Skittles.
I'm pooped!

Req, you're barely 20, you've only been married 5 fuckin' minutes and you're already in the midst of a mid-life crisis. It's not like Chicken Pox; it's not better to get it "out of the way" early in life. And massive biceps, a Lexus and a managerial position at Fat Burger ain't gonna save ya from it. They're little more than the screeching, purple-faced symptoms of your moribund sense of self.
That's one of the many benefits of being a fat, chronically unemployable wretch - I'll never have to to go through an expensive nervous breakdown at age 40. I also never have to lift heavy things repeatedly, except when I wanna titty-fuck my fat wife*.
* Note to self: find a fat wife.

A hissy fit is the most appropriate response when dealing with a hissy hissmeister hissington like R-Dawg, so you'd be right to do so!

Paddy's so round you could grab him like a bowling ball and use him like a kettlebell.
I never thought I'd see "hissy fit" on MT let alone in the fitness thread. I get lots of giggles here.

Question:
To make a long story short: I can't put too much stress on my elbow (directly or indirectly) because of an accident I once had (I now have some sort of calcification around the joint).
So I'm looking for literally "light weight" routines (in relative terms to my 1RM). What I currently do is Randy Couture's workout (the supersets of 64 reps) and the German Volume Training. The 10x10 weights are fairly light compared to, let's say, a 3x8 or 5x5 workout (which I daren't perform at all).
Of course, those get boring after a while. Any other ideas are welcome! Or the next step in accustoming my elbow to a heavier weight but in an "injury-proof" approach.
Thanks

Yes. I had a pain in my elbow in the summer of 2010 which limited its movement (both bending and stretching of the arm). After two months of therapy it went away, and the specialist said I could lift weights to keep the joint supple (and if that went all right, I could go heavier).
But if I do a 3x10 now (let's say bench press) with a 10% heavier weight than I'm used to, I feel the typical small pangs around the joint, so I leave it at that.
@ BassBehemoth: 8 reps of 8 different exercises in one go, without putting down the barbell. Isn't that a superset? Could be wrong though, not at home in all the terminology.

My understanding of "supersetting" is that you perform two sets, then rest, two sets, then rest, etc.

You are correct. Some people just mistakenly assume that it's just two work outs, it can be 2 + n = super set.

If I were in your shoes I'd check back in with the physical therapist. I don't think you're a dumb ass or anything, but I'd go back and do a little Q&A with them first.

Getting some nice results after taking a two month break. Bigger than I was when I quit. Thinking about taking something like Muscle Warfare once it starts warming up a bit.

I'm going to try cutting out my carb intake to about 25% of my diet, I just realized that carbs are more like 60% of my diet right now and it would be better to have some more fats and brotein, hopefully lose some more bodyfat.
NOT THAT I'M FAT OR ANYTHING OK!

Do we really know that's Req'? Maybe it's one of those PX guys.
REQUIEM TURN OFF YOUR FLASH BEFORE YOU TAKE PICTURES IN FRONT OF MIRRORS! And for goodness sake if you have a timer on the darn thing learn to use that. If I can do it you can.

Yeah, Req. How am I suppose to rub one off if I can't stare into your eyes?
I think crabs take up more than 60% of my diet. I basically live off of meats and carbs (rice, bread, pasta).
I actually started going to the gym every morning for this past month of so. I just go in and swim, and every other day doing HIIT swimming.

Hi everyone, its been quite a while since i posted, but i've been quite busy with my bass playing.. teaching, gigs, studio, rehearsals, (i'm in 7 bands currently..!)
Anyway, this thread would of never interested me 3/4 years ago, but i've become quite a fitness freak over the last couple of years and am highly interested in body-building.. it has sometime's nearly interuppted my focus on music..
At the moment i do 5 days a week (45 to an hour each day) intense training..
i take BSN's N.O Xplode before workout and Syntha-6 after..
Monday - Chest
Tuesday - Biceps & Back
Wednesday - Ab's and Shoulder's
Thursday - Leg's & Triceps
Friday - Cardio & Abs
Saturday - rest (light ab workout)
Sunday - rest (light cardio workout)
But i'm doing this all from home (Gym's are way too overpriced here) with just dumbbells with a good variety of weight plates.. and its worked amazing (with the help from Scooby's workshop, you can find him on youtube, he has built an amazing body from just doing home workouts)

If you really want to boost test, try steroids in 5 years or so.

roids are for people who know what they are doing and have their workouts and nutrition down to a science, and sorry man but you are nowhere near that stage. Once you are at your genetic peak when it comes to lifting you can probably start researching, but by then you will already be big by then, and have max lifts that probably are 5 times what you lift now. and it isn't as simple as taking some pills or a needle, doing a cycle right with minimal side effects and maintaining gains after the cycle seems pretty complex.
I haven't done roids, there would be too much planning involved and its not my life goal to be 230+ pounds with 9% bodyfat. I'd rather just spend the extra time getting to 190-200 natty.

I think it best you leave the innuendos to Paddy. If that was any more stretched Bob could crawl back in.

Fuck d00d that's massive. What's your height?
I do barbell shrugs on back/bicep day and the vertical chest press works them as well, but I have been considering doing military presses again.

5'10.
You should definitely have a day of just shoulders IMO. Work the front, mid, rear delts as well as traps.

shoulders:
military
cables (sides)
something for rear delts
military (smith)/or arnies
db side delt raise
traps
arms:
i do 3 or 4 ex's for each part of the arm, i toss it up/im to lazy to type it all out. i end with a super set to drain everything
forearms
ab machine
legs:
3 for quads
2 for hems
1 for calfs (the be too damn big haha)
a small set for squats or if im lazy the "ass machine"
**i do 3 sets per ex, the first is high rep lower weight (to 15), 2nd same thing tiny bit mroe weight. for the last set i toss on the weight and go to 6-8, the woman notices my gains more then me, and she says im getting too big haha

Just formed a shoulder day for my 4th day on my split.
Arnies
military press
upright row
front raises
bent over cable side raises
Is that a decent routine?
Also, should I do barbell shrugs on back or shoulder days?

Yeah, decent routine..remember to switch up your routines a maximum every 2-3 workouts. I personally would focus more on mid/rear delt with lat raises with dumbells.
I've seen traps done on back or shoulder day, personally I do them with shoulders.
edit - Glad you are finally training shoulders..

Decided to buy a mass gainer since eating a shit ton and drinking 3-5 protein shakes a day wasn't helping me gain any weight. Picked up a BUCKET of Muscle Juice 2600. This shit is br00tal. 1300 calories, about 1800 when mixed with milk, 72-80 brotein with milk and like 180 carbs. Also has Omega 3 and L-Glutamine in it.

Brotein? The fitness supplement where the protein comes entirely from semen ingested during the 'workout' of homosexual sex?
Nice workout!

taking 3-5 protein shakes a day is utter shit, I can say this because I used to do it. Might want to take a look at your diet.

I'd say 'Testes plus tasties in one drink.' It's a pun, you see.
Let me know when you're running low on brotein. I'll send you some!

I doubt your restaurant could cope with the week-long clam chowder drought the fulfilment of your offer would create. I can't imagine your diners being all that bothered, though.

OK, so I have a question on resting between sets: what do most people do here?
My current regime involves performing two sets then resting for two minutes so my Monday routine is as follows:
Barbell bench press
Barbell bent-over rows
(2 min rest)
Chest flyes
Rear lateral rise
(2 min rest)
Dumbbell biceps curls
Lying triceps extensions
(2 min rest)
Dumbbell pullovers
Hammer curls
(2 min rest)
This is done three times, increasing by two reps for the second time through and then lifting to failure on the third.
Is this the regular approach? Seeing a load of routines that stipulate, say, 4 sets of flyes and 3 sets of hammer curls (which doesn't fit nicely into the two-set-at-a-time subdivision of the routine) leads me to think that I'm doing something wrong!

John, surely the constant jumping up and down, screaming, punching the walls and picking fights with MUFC fans after Liverpool loses every single fucking game they ever play is exercise enough. Don't overdo it - and certainly don't introduce free weights into an already-strenuous fitness regime - you'll end up a muscle-bound, walnut-lookin' freak of nature by the end of the season.

I'd tap that. Literally, with one of these to drain away all of that bulbous nonsense and have her looking like a girl again.

I don't necessarily see anything wrong with it. Don't overthink your routine. Hit the major compound movements, plan your meals, and grow. Do what works for you. There is no magical routine.

how often do you exercise? i'd plan out either a ABA, BAB routine or a 4 or 5 day split. i've been getting better results only working one muscle group one or twice a week. also, look up SS if you want sort of a guideline routine.

SS is horrible and Mark Rippletits is a fat fuck, I would not go by that advice. Strong but fat, and maybe is a good workout for some people but most will just get massive legs and increased bodyfat, especially if you follow his advice on eating 6000 calories a day (lol) with fast food.

Starting strength is one of the most popular beginner routines out there, and for good reason. What routine are you running? Post it up.

Its good if you want to start powerlifting maybe. Can't see much other use in it really, and see the previous page of this thread.

For what it's worth I got a good chuckle out of your critique and how it "makes your legs too big."

I'd agree the lifts in SS are good. I started out with a lot of power clean/hang clean/ shrug and deadlift stuff, also squats, bench, etc. I don't agree with squatting 3x a week and a lot of the way it is structured. I wouldn't say its great for all sports either, but American Football yes.

I do 4 nights a week and at the moment my routine is:
Mon: Shoulders
Tue: Legs/abs
Thur: Arms
Fri: Chest/back
I alternate between the above and:
Mon: Upper
Tue: Lower
Thur: Upper
Fri: Lower
Every fourth week is a rest week.
My main source for routines is the iFitness iPhone app, which seems pretty good.
And Shred, thanks for the advice.
Paddy, I've already crushed all the Man Utd fans I can find; I need a new challenge. And furthermore, King Kenny is bringing the glory back to Anfield, you just watch, WATCH I say!!!
