I did squats, lunges, pull-ups, rowing, leg lifts, and 7,000 steps just working in the yard. My arms have never felt so tight as after pulling mullein, wild parsley, and a few other things. Even the flabby underarms are firmer and those ole glutes are getting beautifuller and beautifuller.

I'm really going to miss walking with my partner while I'm on vacation, but I'll get some in anyways if I have to do it at the hotels.

It's decent, but considering the rest of me is so damn big, it's not quite as impressive. I'm still happy about it though, I'm more strength training than size training now though. I actually kinda like being 260, just gotta get all of my weights up now. Shoulder's finally not fucked so I can work a lot heavier than I usually do, and I'm happy about that.

Yesterday for chest i was doing 4 sets of 3, and on my 4th set i put up 160. Since I weigh only 160, I'm fired up about it. Considering less than 2 months ago I was only doing sets of 95.

I need to get back into shape. I used to get tons of exercise back when I was in high school and managed to stay trim enough just from marching band alone. Nothing worthy of running around with no shirt on, but my fat % and weight were both in plenty reasonable levels.

If I could actually quit smoking for a good amount of time I could start running again. I used to love running. I was able to pull of a 6 minute mile with my only conditioning being marching band. That was just a test though, I liked the slightly slower minute/mile ratio, but ran at least 3 miles. I've got a little 40lb dumbbell for curls in the backyard, but I hardly ever use it anymore which is a shame.

I think if I could get back into running long distance regularly and playing some heavy-duty racquetball a few times a week I'd be fit in no time. Hell, I used to run a 7-minute mile before playing racquetball for an hour. You can't maintain that kind of regimen and avoid being healthy! My only goal really is to have a flat stomach. I'm not one for sit-ups but if I'm running and playing racquetball regularly I think I won't have to worry about that.

Well, for one I live in a ghetto-ish area, and I always preferred running at night. Either way my lungs are in no condition for that, and I'm not sure I could push my body that hard with any sort of success. I don't have anybody to play racquetball with until my father really gets recovered from his recent back operation, and I'm not just going to go out by myself and hit balls, racquetball becomes a lot more tedious and probably less effective in that way. Add in the fact that the courts close to where I am may or may not be lit and I have no idea until when if they are, because like my running I also like to get my racquetball in at night (I do live in Florida after all). So really there's nothing stopping me, I just can't start right now. Soon enough though.

I know it's humid down there most of the time. Do you have asthma? My meds for it are remarkable, but it's so hard to breath sometimes in extreme heat/humidity or cold.
There's a lot of things you can do if you're just interested in your abs that don't involve sit-ups. I hated those and so did my back.
Best thing to get motivated is to just do a few things scattered through the day. Once you start that you'll get yourself into a momentum and you'll find the oddest times to do things.
One long squat while brushing your teeth, leg lifts doing dishes, forgetting things upstairs once you're downstairs and having to go back up ( I get a lot that way!), parking at far ends of parking lots. And pull that belly button to your spine whenever you think of it and hold it about 30 seconds.

And I'm almost positive I've lost weight and muscle....all I do now is pushups.

I've actually been working out a lot more often lately. I still don't like my numbers too much so I don't talk about it a lot, but I've been hitting the gym harder, focusing more on powerlifting.

wally, does that mean you finally may beat me arm wrestling? I think my arms grew 3 inches yesterday getting ready to come see you. I felt like Jr. on Sunday doing laundry and carrying up and down the stairs all day. yeech I only had 2.31 miles registered on my pedometer, but most of it was up and down the stairs. I think I'll sleep til Minnesota today. Maybe I'll wake up and give Tulvox a ring when we get around there.

No I don't have asthma, but like I said I've been a smoker for over a year now, so I am pretty compromised.

It's not to say I'm just interested in abdominals, but I see that as the only part that really needs work. My arms are fine and my legs have always been more than ample. However, tell me more, as I really hate sit-ups.

Well I just found out my uni id will work this summer so next week, I'm going to the gym and I'm going to fucking do 5 sets of 10--with 50lb dumbells--of clean and jerk as warm up after eating as much food as possible. Then I'm going to do a small amount of deadlifts....

Just did some reverse grip cleans and HOLY CRAP thay fucking worked for me, I did sets 4 with 155, and my arms feel as if they are going to explode. I know now what FBS meant when he called curls "gay" compared to reverse cleans. Wow.

The objection, I believe, was that in a profound way it doesn't work, but it seems to in the superficial way most gym idiots demand of it. But, even shoving all that to the side, one question seems obvious: why use a Smith machine for shrugs?

its a cardiac rehab center right accross the street from where i recieved PT, its very close and about has about 80% of what i need out of a gym. there are young people who go there, but its mostly populated by old people

I don't have a measuring tape to contest you MTM, but I do know for sure that my biceps aren't 15 inches. You cunt.

However, my pushups have made my back fucking cut. When I flex, I can see that large "v" of muscle in the middle of my back. It's badass.

Got a great new deadlift program - I do singles @70% every single day, with sets increasing over the week.

It's vicious and it makes me giggle.

My workouts consist of Bench Press, Standing Alternate Curls, Concentration curls, hammer curls, millitary press, buterfly chest workout, situps, pushups and leg press. for my bench press right now, i'm benching 190 lbs. for my standing alternate curls and hammer curls i'm doing 35 lbs. for my concentration surls i'm doing 55 lbs. millitary press, i'm doing 85 lbs. for the butterfly chest workout, i'm doing 95 lbs. for music when i work out i listen to metal. i don't go to a gym, i workout at home everyday exept tuesday and friday, those are my rest days. but i'm soon going to get a membership at a gym.

I curl 40oz bottles of Steel.....I can't wait until they bring the 68 (or whatever) oz back.....

Up to 80 pushups again, and I must say, I'm really shaping my body with it--and I haven't been to the gym in more than a month; I up my pushups once each day, doing one set in the morning and one before bed, so tomorrow it's 81....My goal is 200 each set.....So I'll be doing pushups for some years to come

Well, I'm off to my type of exercise... namely, today consisting of digging narrow, two feet deep holes in hard packed dry earth riddled with large stones, and where the boss says that the holes will be, THERE THE HOLES WILL BE.

That was a thouroghly new, highly intriguing way for me to look at it.
But I was a bit unfair - if there is a VERY large stone I may calibrate the position a few inches; however since it is supposed to be poles for an oak fence in the holes, there really isn't that much to discuss.

Are you back to robbing graves again Amadeus? They sure bury them shallow over there. I've got things buried in my yard deeper than that. Oh wait. I guess I shouldn't say that.

I did about 2600 steps with pedometer in hotel room while we were on vacation. Then I thought I'd just continue to eat pretty healthy and not really do much concentrated effort just to give the body a break. Bob's steps gave me some climbing so that was cool and I did do squats periodically. Hotel mirrors are great to check form. Anyways, I do feel better and look better in places, but I'm ready to start the regular walking and other stuff I was doing prior. I'm going to try to do a little more caloric deficit to see if I can drop a bit of weight. I feel good and I feel stronger than I ever have so i must be doing something right even if I'm not physically anywhere's near perfect.

when i'm doing ,say, concentration curls, after i'm done doing one set and i let go of the dumbell, i get this shot of pain in my wrist. i checked to see if i was doing everything right. i turns out i am doing everything right. i was wondering if any of you ever got this before. to explain more clearly what i mean: i pick up the dumbell and start my set of reps. as soon as i'm done i l put the dumbell down and as soon as i let go, i feel a bit of pain in one part of my wrist.

only use bowflex at night

if you own a bowflex or similar machine,
and if you keep it in an open or outdoor area
the rubber bars become more plyable when its hot out and you dont get an accurate resistance

I've asked the same thing in this thread before many times and have never gotten an answer. Whatever you do, disregard LBXXX's comment and listen to this:

If I've missed out on a lot of food/protein shakes before my 2-3 times per week workouts, it'll happen to me. I would pick up a 30-40lb dumbell and the second it gets near my shoulders my wrist pinches like a motherfucker and I have to set the weight down fast. I leave the gym pissed off, and when the next workout day comes, I down a protein shake seconds before leaving the house to the gym. Problem solved.

Eat more, sleep more, drink protein shakes, and try not to stop this after you start.

Nothing at all but 2 sets of pushups per day, almost 1 1/2 hours of Aikido 6 days a week, lots of headbanging, and lots of downpicking. That's what I do now. I kind of quit the gym and all supplement taking, and just started to pay more attention to the "daily value based on a 2,000 calorie/2,500 calorie diet" labels that appear on almost all food.

Damnit powers! Yes, I agree with that, but assuming the diet and form is right and the pain persists then it would be adviseable not to continue it especially if it's painful. I know that muscle gets built from damaged tissues, but if it's overdone and repeatedly overdone it's not going to be beneficial.

My kid went from working in a small kitchen to unloading and loading pallets on a loading dock. Although he wasn't in great shape he screwed up his arms so bad he had to wear braces and was off work for more than a month. Now he can't lift much weight and it's preventing him from getting jobs.

There's a lot of factors that can be involved.

Well I've never went through that, so I'm still going to believe he will fix the problem the exact same way I did. And I did it for more than a year.

Yeah, everyone's experiences are different. I see what you're saying.
Someone knowledgeable actually watching what they're doing could probably be more beneficial than anything. I still baby my right arm from the reps getting in and out of the back of Bob's truck a year ago last March. I guess I'm paranoid of people causing themselves injury without realizing it that doesn't go away. Maybe strengthening that area before moving on to that task would be the thing to do.

Lately I've started to not care for the pain I get anymore. Now I just say, "damnit, fucker, watch the fuck out so you don't fuck up again." For example, yesterday at work, I broke a strap wrench. The loop swung out straight, cutting my wrist lengthwise, the as it curled back up and I whipped my hand back, it made another line down my wrist in the opposite direction. It bled alot and felt hot, but I said nothing and just turned away and walked off to the bathroom to scrub it off with soap and paper towels.

For the guy who was talking about his arms hurting from doing curls and stuff, do a couple high rep warmup sets very light just to get everything moving with little resistance so you get used to the movement, then move on to your working sets. I do this before every chest and shoulder day to keep my shoulders from bothering me.

Also, if your elbows are bothering you, try harder to control your descent on the negative portion of the rep, so there's no sudden stress on your joints from the full negative position. Momentum can cause pain in the joints as well, since if you're using a lot of momentum you're probably going a bit too heavy.

Or you could always give yourself a week of not doing the particular exercise that's causing this pain, or not working that muscle group for a week or so. It may sound counterproductive but it's better than fucking yourself up from repeated irritation.

Whether or not these things will work for you, I don't know. I do know that I've had elbow pains and shoulder pains from time to time, and doing these things helped. I would imagine that calcium and protein would also help, but I haven't really tried to increase those things for that effect.

the pain went away when i stopped doing preachers a month or more ago, but then so did my bicep. ill try high rep low weight warmup.

If it's preachers in particular that cause you pain, it might be how you are extending your arm. I never lock my elbows with anything really, I go just short of that, so if you're fully extending your negative with the preachers that might be causing/adding to it.

there is an alternative for protein shakes and bars. for those of you who don't want to pay $30 a month on protein mix, you can always eat two cans of tuna fish. two can of tuna equals to the same amount of protien thats in shakes and bars. i always eat two cans of tuna after my workout.

i have heard not to eat more than 3 servings of tuna due to high mercury levels in the fish. whether or not thats true, i dont know, but thats an awful lot of one kind of meat to be eating anyway

Tuna is good once in a while, but like all fish it has a lot of mercury in it, and if you eat the stuff every single day, it screws with your brain

not tue. my uncle is a bodybuilder and he knows alot about what to eat and when he was in competitons, he would eat a case of tuna a day. he said those rumors about mercury are not true.

How much mercury is in canned tuna?

Nearly all fish contain traces of methyl mercury. Canned tuna meets all health and safety standards set by the FDA, which has established the maximum safe level of methyl mercury allowed in commercial seafood at 1.0 parts per million. In the latest product survey by the FDA, canned light meat tuna averaged less than an eighth of that amount, and canned albacore tuna averaged about a third of the maximum safe level set by the FDA. In the most comprehensive study ever conducted on the subject, the evidence showed that fetal exposure to methyl mercury from fish consumption during pregnancy (at the consumption levels seen in most parts of the world and certainly in the U.S.) does not have measurable cognitive or behavioral effects later in childhood.

The recent government advisory advises that a well-balanced diet includes a variety of fish and shellfish that can contribute to heart health and children's proper growth and development. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and young children in particular, should include fish or shellfish in their diets due to the many nutritional benefits. The government's advisory also makes it clear that pregnant and nursing women can safely consume albacore as one of their fish choices. Specifically, the new advisory tells pregnant women they can safely eat up to six ounces of albacore a week, which translates into three full servings. You can continue to eat up to twelve ounces of a variety of fish (such as our light meat tuna) and shellfish each week."

Ahh shit I dunno, I love tuna fish and it has a shitlode of protein in it, if it is harmless I will probably eat that stuff every day. I'm definately going to do some homework on it though.

Researching is the best way to find the stuff out and you get so you can wade through the crap from the good stuff.
Make sure you're getting enough water when you're doing the extra protein thing. I hear it's hard on the kidneys.

I just read recently that lifting progressively heavier and heavier weights can lead to aneurism, high blood pressure, stroke, and other medical problems. There's been people who have strained to take a dump and had a stroke so it makes sense to me.
