I dont do too many BB curls any more ,they kill my inner elbows I do alot of the incline DBs and alot of cable curls,they seem to work constant tension on the biceps without the cheating you normally do with heavy BB curls.

I don't really exercise, but what's wrong with a standing curl?

Oh and I've got quite weak knees. Could someone recommend any exercises/stretches to help?

Every other day man......every other day. I also drink about 100 grams of protein per day to help. Like so.....

I've started working out at a gym 5-6 days a week. I do my upper body (shoulder, chest, biceps, triceps, back) one day and then my lower body (stomach, legs, back legs etc) the other day. I usually work out together with Humancorpse, but he's not there as often as me. The days he's not there, I'm working out with a weak guy who brags about how much he can lift, but in reality, he can't do a shit :P
I also do some stamina training. Sometimes I'm going cross country skiing. Though it can be pretty boring, it's the best work out method for stamina and calorie bruning etc.

You guys are doing too many muscle groups in one workout, it's not going to do shit for you. Try to limit the workouts to chest/shoulders,back/shoulders, biceps/triceps, biceps/forearms, triceps/chest, legs/abs, ect.

yes i heard to limit your work out to about an hour, anything way over that, you won't be gaining much, how true is this FBS?

If you can lift weights for more than an hour, not including warm-up, then there's something wrong with the intensity of your workouts. To put it bluntly, it's gay.

A two hour chest and arm workout is far too much.

Yeah, some people do that as well, but the guy who's working there recommended that programme. I will probably change later though.

Can't say anything wrong about the results though.

If I were to lift as much as possible for each muscle only 30-40 minutes every other day, I'll never get anywhere. My muscles relax/shrink pretty damn fast.

I've got roughly 3 hours of Aikido tonight, so I'll use some paper/pen tomorrow and time everything according to The Sound of Perseverance. With that much information, it'll be a long list--so be warned.....

Oh, and I get water a lot throughout my workouts, so sometimes there'll be anywhere from 1-5 minutes inbetween lifts. Also, people are assholes and don't rack the free weights all the time, so I have to rack weights and put up my weights; so that's sometimes longer(or more if I've got to cut in with someone else on a bar or machine).
So in fact, there are little inevitable things that make the workout longer. I also try to make it to the rec center before it closes for the night, around 8pm-12am, when there are less people.


Now I'm off to orchestra rehersal.

god man i went at a peak hour at my universities gym today, i was going for 3 reps on a heavy squat for me, then as i was descending for my 3rd rep, some idiot walks right by my bar and starts picking weights off the rack, totally lost my fucking focus and lost my balance and fell backwards, god did that piss me off, fucking retards at the gym.

And i did not fall because the weights were too heavy, after i was so pissed i upped the weight i was at by 20 lbs and banged out 6 reps, but falling when squatting is embarassing..and makes you feel like shit, lose all focus and motivation for awhile

Denise Austin and crushed tomatoes kicked my ass this morning. (I used the large size cans for weights cuz they were handy.) I'm drinking 2 fisted right now. Water in one hand and a shake of eggbeater, skim milk, and molasses in the other. I hurt so good.

fbs--My dad knocked my jaw out of place when I was a smart mouth brat teenager once and he wasn't a violent person at all. I've had trouble with it ever since so you might be doing me a favor and knock it back in.

powers, did you ever stop to think that maybe you're not giving the muscles time to heal and rebuild? If you keep the movement going with no rest it would make the muscles weaker, I'd think, and keep them from getting any bigger. You have to have some patience, too. It doesn't seem like you've really been doing it that long.

For those who dont know Jack Lalanne was some fitness guru in the 60s and 70s , who actually was in great shape and still is around and kicking even though he's like 90

hahaha wow, blast from the past. My mom used to watch him when I was a kid. He used to have a couple white German shepherds on the show from what I remember. He is still in great shape for an old geezer last I knew. I think Readers' Digest had an article about him within the past couple years.

I struck up a conversation with a cashier in Sears yesterday about the mall walking and by the time we'd finished talking she said I'd motivated her to start doing a little more in the fitness area. I thought that was pretty cool and that gave me a little more motivation, too.

I've been working out since the second semester of my freshman year, almost exactly 2 years ago.

Here is comes, sane. Tonight's workout started around 7:30pm after Aikido weapons training and ended roughly 1 1/2 hours later.

LEGS

Quad stretch....uhh, you know that thing that you posted here some time ago that you were so proud of finally being able to do--put a bench bar on the ground with weights stablizing it. Face away from it with your feet underneath the bar, then go up and down. Well, I can't do one, so I use this exercise to stretch my quads out. For about 2 minutes, I just leaned forward every 5-10 seconds stretching them out.

rest 1 minute

Deadlift
135lbs, 2 sets of 3 reps
155lbs 2 sets of 2 reps
(30 secs rest inbetween all sets)

water break 2 minutes

Squat
135lbs 1 set of 3 reps
225lbs 2 set of 3 reps
275lbs 2 set of 3 reps
(30 secs rest inbetween all sets)

water break 2 minutes

Standing Calf roller machine
100lbs 1 set of 10 reps
1 minute rest
140lbs 1 set of 10 reps
30 secs rest
200lbs 1 set of 2 reps
water break 30 seconds

Hamstring machine
60lbs (each leg) 3 sets of 5 reps
(30 secs rest inbetween all sets)

2 minutes of rest

ARMS

Bench bar press
135lbs 2 sets of 3 reps (1st set normal, 2nd set arms wider than normal)
155lbs 5 sets of 3 reps (arms wider than normal)
175lbs 1 set of 5 reps (normal)
175lbs 1 sets of 1 rep (wide)
(30 secs of rest inbetween all sets)

Water break 2 minutes 30 secs

Millitary bench bar press
95lbs 1 set of 5 reps (normal)
95lbs 1 set of 3 reps (wide)

I do these like so: 1 rep=both rear delt and fly....so 5 reps forward, then 5 reps backward equals 1 rep.

190lbs 1 set of 1 rep
(30 secs of rest between all sets)

Water break 3 minutes

Sitting dip
90lbs 1 set of 35 reps

Went home, and drank 80grams of protein, because I forgot to drink one earlier today.


So this is basically my workout Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
I've had a bunch of changes to my schedule lately so this here TRSa workout only started last week. And before that, I did all machine exercises, with lesser weight.

i got scared when I read that part, how can you possibly do all those exercises in ONE workout, atleast i can see why you are in there 2 hours at a time..

Yeah it is. But right now, 3 hours later, I'm all relaxed except for a slight soreness to my lower back and quads.

If you can suggest a better workout plan that is shorter and has an equal--or greater--result, then I'd love to hear it.

There's no way I'm overtraining. If I was overtraining, wouldn't I be having muscle and bone problems, difficulty sleeping and waking up, and stretch marks? Well, I'm not.

hitting one body part a day
for example chest on mon, back tues, legs wed ,shoulders on thur, arms fri
12-16 sets per part hit it with enough instensity ,
work out should last 45 minutes there is no way on earth you could be training with any instensity doing a 2 hour session ,
I would hate to go to the gym if I had to be there 2 hrs a day it would be like a job not fun.
But hey if you like your way , keep it up

No, I can't do that. I only have 2-3 days a week to lift weights. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are my new Aikido days. Actually, I'll be lucky to make a Thursday workout, so it'd probably end up being 2 days a week, Tuesday and Saturday.

The point is even Pros who are training for top shows like the nationals or the Olympia dont stay in the gym 2 hours , Its counter productive , Lee Haney said it best stimulate don't annihilate .
A 45 minute session with sufficent instensity will own a 2 hour marathon session, I would dread to go to the gym if I knew I was spending 2 hours every time. Now if you going for the gym hotties and you are taking in the eye candy , well thats a different story there, but as far as working out 2 hours , no way.

Even most metal bands gigs arent 2 hours .
do what works for you , but if you dont believe me ask FBS , he seems to really know his stuff.I

whenever i do lat pulldowns my RIGHT only wrist hurts for about a second after. if it was something to do with posture, wouldnt it be both wrists?

There is of course nothing wrong with working everything at once! Just not like that. Your workout is a mess of contrasting reps and ranges, and full of stuff you don't need to do. I can't see what it's designed to achieve rather than to just 'touch everything'. This is the cardinal rule of program design - what is supposed to be the endgame of this program? What is it designed to DO to me?

Two questions, and then we can design you a program that rapes babies:

1) Do you have a dumbbell set at home, even a kiddy one?
2) Can you do basic bodyweight exercises, like chins, pullups, dips and one-legged squats?

Welcome back, Little Tranny Man, to my masturbating thread. Excuse me while I discharge a load on you - I'm not sure how your posture could affect either one wrist or both wrists. It probably has something to do with your hand position at full contraction.

However, that's a moot point. Here's the overriding concern - don't do lat pulldowns, ever. It's an awful kids movement that doesn't teach you to use your body tension properly, and it has fat potential to fuck up your shoulder girdle. Do chins. If you can't, I wrote a program quite recently that is designed to ease a beginner into chins (and dips, the other true bodyweight exercise of doom). If you asked REALLY NICELY, I'll give it to you.

oddly enough theres no chin up bar at my gym. im not sure if i could do one or not, but ive been donig what i think are dips on my kitchen counter. sucking up your knees, lowering yourself as low as you can go and then raising again?

Ive seen people almost 500 or 600 pounds on leg presses but most of the time they are doing partial reps which will only serve to tear your ACL or blow out your knees.
Your much better served doing squats , Presses are nowhere as effective as a real squats , since I never or rarely have a spotter I do them on the smith .
Another thing to remember weight generally dont mean shit .If you dont do a rep the proper way and cheat the fucker you can do alot of weight but if you do it right , you will use alot less but get alot more out of it.

The thing is about those, different machines can be different.


Oh and FBS, those 1 1/3 benches are brutal on pecs. It makes total sense, and it hits my chest harder and arms less, because the weight is low most of the time. Thanks for that And I've also been taking amino acids, drinking a shitload of water, and eating better foods, more times a day with smaller serving sizes. It's odd, eating better after a workout and drinking water prolongs my pump... good I'm assuming?

MTM--yes, that's very good.

I didn't see the news show, but my mom was telling me there was something about some facilities up around Cleveland that were dirty as hell. The water in the spas had worms of some sort in them and the equipment was germ infested. Just something to observe about where you're going to work out.

I'm glad I'm too shy and self conscious to go to a gym again.

dont be shy, you're there to make a change and you have to start somewhere. i was doing arm extensions with , absolutely no joke, 1 pound and struggling. this was of course a result of surgery but i still went and now im ready for 20s. besides, everyone else is too busy worrying about themselves to notice what you're up to anyways

and the old people at my gym think im hercules.

Yeah I'm stronger than alot of kids in my weight lifting class, just because I actually lift every day.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I told a lady about my age the other day that I feel better now at almost 50 than I did when I was 18. I know I'm a lot stronger. That really impressed her. She said she goes gung ho for awhile and gets bored. I told her to take baby steps and she'd probably do better. I think that works best for me so who knows. Contrary to some opinions I'm not quite dead yet.

Also, I've been deadlifting. Holy shit, I didn't know what I was missing. Ive never got a better back movement in my life. I could do seated rows all day and it wouldn't compare to three or four sets of deadlifts. Also works shoulders and delts rather well. Yep. Deadlifting is king. My favourite back lift (apart from chins, of course) is a deadlift variation called a suitcase deadlift. The bar is by your side and you lift it with one hand. It's absolutely brutal on the lats because they have to massively contract to stabilise the torso. Of course, I have to go one step further and make the bar weight entirely out of small plates to the movement starts lower to the ground! I can suitcase about my bodyweight each side, and the next day my upper back gives birth. Through my face.

What the hell is the difference between different juice percentages in....well "juice."
I bought some apple juice that contains 100% juice, and yet for the same price and same nutrition info--exception: ingredients--I can get apple juice with like 40% juice.

Besides the concetration of juice, is it better to drink the more concentrated one?

A juice with '40% juice' will have more water, sugar and additives in it as opposed to 'pure' apple juice. Its better to drink juice that isn't from concentrate overall though.

You know, I never put a lot of interest into that until I was relatively alone for awhile and was sleeping about 8pm to 5am. I was ready to get up and tackle the world then. But life got in the way of that and I don't sleep those hours anymore. I do have to start getting better and more sleep. I've got a nervous twitch in my eyelid that's driving me nuts and I think there's a pinched nerve in my arm somewhere cuz my arm's been going numb for about the past 3 or 4 days. Just enough for pins and needles. Old and falling apart.

The 100% juice is better for you, but the fruit is better cuz of the fiber and complex carbs it has in it. Juice goes into your system fast and leaves fast.

When I first started drinking apple juice, milk, and grape juice this past year it would upset my stomach if you know what I mean. Now I can drink 2-3 glasses of each--or all three--every day and be perfectly fine. With the 100% juice stuff. And I've found a good taste for Vitamin D milk.

damn, I wish I had time to sleep that long! I always get to much homework and spend lots of time on that, some time on working out, lots of time eating and the rest of the time infront of the computer/TV. I normally go to sleep around 23:00, and wake up 7:15, sometimes 6.
