It isn't really, it's just the most expensive due to high demand. I think Korina sounds pretty nice... it doesn't really matter that much when you're running your guitar through a stack and an assload of distortion.

i play alot of stuff. just now im looking for a great sounding accoustic. im thinking nylon which is always beutiful. but then im low on dow so im looking for either nylon or steel. just looking for which wood is best.
im looking for nylon because flamenco is a bitch load of fun, and isnt that slow like classical. and has plenty of feeling in it.
but that doesnt meen i dont wanna stop playing electric cuz thats alot of fun too

its really personal preference.
but it seems zebra wood is pretty similar to mahogany tone wise. But zebra wood looks cooler.

Mahagony is nice is you are looking for more low end and more sustain.
I'd personally go with Koa.

Exactly, there is no "the best" wood. It's all about what sound your after. Why is ash stupid? Its used in millions of guitars. You better explain yourself.

If you're asking for my (uninformed) opinion, I'd prefer mahogany.

There are for sure "better" woods. Its fact some woods are more "musical" than others.

I heard Buckeye is like the platinum of wood. . . I saw a guitar that was made of it and was priced at 30 G's. . . money that I don't have and probably will never make in a year.

Warmoth has wood descriptions, you can check out different woods there and their tonal properties.

if acoustics is what your looking for, id recommend...
brazilian rosewood ( really expensive but has a the best balance of lows and highs )
indian rosewood ( sounds like brazilian rosewood, but a lot less expensive )
i hear koa is nice too, but ive never played a guitar made of this.

sure, there is some wood that is overly shitty, and some that is more meant for resonance... but there is no best wood. There just isnt. It depends on who is listening.
MAYBE if you defined some restricted parameters, you could judge a wood to be more suited to a certain type of sound... but even still, its very subjective.

I don't know much about woods but my friend uses Agathis (at least that is what he said) and it sounds pretty sweet.
