Death Metal Rehab
Death metal was the first form of extreme metal that was shown to me.For a while I didnt listen to anything unless it sounded like Cannibal Corpse. Well to make a long story short, black metal ruined death metal for me. I didnt listen to death metal for about 5 or 6 years.
Now I am slowly introducing death metal back into my diet. Only thing is that most death metal is too "spastic" for me to enjoy with changes in the music making me very confused as to what I am listening too. Just wanted to know if you guys could provide me with some bands to help me out. Bloodbath has been helping alot lately. That should give you an idea as to what I am looking for.

Don't listen to any death metal really, sorry. . . . But lately I've been jamming the summoning, beherit, candaria, necrophagus(necrophagia whatever), cannae, burzum, emperor, and death. . . . Don't know if you listen to any or all of them or even what you would classify some of them as but it might help. . . . later

You dont need a rehab. Just check out the new albums from Nile, Hate eternal, Blood red throne, Vehemence and Vicious art etc and it will be a revolution for you. But dont forget ypur daily dose of black metal though.

So what you want is death metal with structure and songwriting? Amen to that.
I suggest just sticking to Death, because when it comes to songwriting, Chuck is pretty much untouched. If you feel the need to really branch out I guess you could check out The Black Dahlia Murder, and Quo Vadis' newer stuff (Break the Cycle, Silence Calls the Storm). Other than that, i've really got nothing. Death metal has been pissing me off lately. All I really listen to is Death, Megadeth, Jason Becker, and Marty Friedman.
Please don't download any Yattering like that guy just suggested. It is a perfect example of what you DON"T want.

I've been going through the same thing since last summer. I got stuck in this black metal void and didn't care to really get out of it very often. Now I'm stuck in the whole melodic blackened death metal thing, but I have learned to enjoy every kind of metal to some extent.

The erratic nature of modern death metal is one of the things that sets it apart from other genres, you uncultured swine.
I really can't recommend any others than what's been mentioned but you should probably stay away from Between The Buried And Me, Cephalic Carnage, Psycroptic, Origin, Spawn Of Possesion...
You definately need to listen to Necrophagist and Dying Fetus though. |

Augury have become one of my favourite bands, hands down. We had to opportunity to play with them in Toronto a couple of months ago...simply amazing, and really nice guys, too. Forest is one of the best bassists I've seen in a long time.
