I was wondering what kind of scales Alexi Laiho uses to get that awesome sound they have. Anybody know?

Bet none of you care, but i just learned harmonic major today. its sweet, it has like this tiny hint of difference from harmonic minor, but enough to tell so using harmonic minor wont be so old perhaps for our music.

I wouldn't go as far as saying 'metal bands'. Thats like calling Paul Gilbert a pop guitarist cause he made 'to be with you'. They made some heavy songs that you may go as far to say metal or could have influenced metal, but i think to call a band metal, they have to have that sound that everyone on here probably knows, this being the 'metal tab' forum. I dont think they really count if you ask me, but they definately all branched off during that time, not near as far as metal goes these days though.

Well, apparently that link doesn't work. Scroll down to find the editorial entitled 'Your Mother Should Know,' if you're interested in my link.
I wouldn't go so far as calling any pre-Sabbath band a metal band, no matter how long the term 'heavy metal' existed before their first record debuted, but the Beatles had some pretty fuckin' metal moments. So let's all agree to stop talking about, okay? We'll talk about the scales Alexi Laiho uses, deal? Good.
I don't listen to very much CoB, but what I've heard and bothered to learn was just in the regular old minor scale.

hahaha, man, foxguitar, you managed to turn a topic about what scales COB use into an argument about if the beatles were metal or not

Well the beatles probably where considered pretty fucking heavy back in the day. maybe not heavy metal, but rock n' roll, which was probably just as outrageous then so i guess it evens out. In a brutal effort to stay on topic i'll go with minor.

is your wieght supposed to intimidate me? your nothing more then a name on a screen
and if a 50 year old man is offended by a little swear word then why are you here are or into metal at all? that is if your really lived and knew the 60's-70's which i doubt you are beacause your occupation states your a 'bouncer' no bouncer in todays world could have lived through that time period unless you were just a squirt in the womb. so you gotta be lieing about one or the other, so why should I even belive your 250 lb? your probably just a 13 year old boy who got permission from mommy and daddy to get on the computer
dont you know metal forums are a no no for little boys
and to tip my hat to pst im out of this thread

but again I didnt start the fight , the cat asked what metal bands didnt use the Harmonic minor , Now whether you want to accept or not the beatles and stones and bands before sabbath as metal bands fine thats your right , I respectfully stated they were the first. If you dont think so , Fine. Then
why cant a respectful dialogue of point counterpoint be conducted without some 14 yr old Taliban snit who thinks they know everything.
Most of you arent old enough to been around in the late 60s and early 70s I was there , But if you dont accept Jethro Tull as metal fine, state your case without an attack
Now I do believe it was the Harmonic Minor that was banned in the Medieval
period for being diabolus in musica , The Devils Music, The penalty for composing with it was death by burning.
Any of you music historians correct me if Im wrong I do believe it was the Harmonic Minor.

pretty sure that was diminished. 1st, 3rds, and 5ths were dubbed the devils interval by the big bad church
