Behringer, Gallien Kruegor, or Hartke?
Need advice. I've got the money for either a hartkey 60w, gallien kruegor 70w, or behringer 120w and i don't know which is better amp for the price.

Ive played through a hartke and a gallien Krueger, the hartke wasnt that nice, it was some 6x10 cab, bit too trebley and punchy and lost notes.. the gallien krueger was alright, just very loud.

fuck the behringer, they have no tone.
GK and Hartke are both 'allright' depending on the series. they're not that special but at least they're decent.
the behringer is just junk.

What would be a good amp for the 200-300 price range

'good'?
none. or maybe a used one.
you're better off saving up for something better. especially if you're sure you're going to be playing bass actively in the next few years.

SWR are quite good...I used to play through a SWR Grandprix pre-amp, it sounded amazing, but the price.......
You might want to look into using a Yorkville 400W bass head (or head combo) for the price, you can't beat it. It's a clean sound, with tons of balls and volume. Don't forget that in a live setting, your stage sound is just that, STAGE sound. The soundman will make it sound amazing through the front-of-house system, no matter what it sounds like on stage. And in the studio, you can either work with whatever tone you have, and tweak it to hell, or spend the money and rent an amazing system for the 2 or 3 days you'll need it.
Cheers.

from what knowledge i ahve aquired, behringer is crap, nasty tone, you dont get the fine nuances of the sound from the bass. I havent played any Hartke so i dont know about that, but out of Behringer and GK, definitely GK, but i agree, i personally would save for something more, and at least in my humble opinion, bass sounds a hell of a lot better with a tweeter so get like a halfstack with a tweeter or something. With a little more high end like that, the bass really cuts through the mix of guitars n drums n alll.

I have two of these amps. Why two? Well first I bought one along with a 2x10 cab. Then, a year later, I found someone that wanted to sell the same amp but this one was a combo with a 15. So I bought it, after trying it out and hearing the extra power that 15" speaker gave me. Now when I play live, I use the combo and plug in the seperate 2x10 cab. The result: all the stage sound I need for this point in music musical life. I was thinking of using both amps live but I don't see the point since one can power both cabs.
Why don't I then sell one? Well I leave one at one of my band's places and the other at the other band's place. Short story: I never move amps!
Well actually I do sometimes but I don't NEED to.
Anyway those are AWESOME amps, though you might have difficulty finding them, since they don't make them anymore. If you can find someone willing to sell I suggest buying, I got the first amp along with the cab for $650 Canadian which is approx. and the combo I got for $480 which is about $380 US .
If you can find one of those combos for cheap you won't have to save much money up ....
Oh and depending on how loud you play, you might not have enough with the 2x10 cab. I blew a speaker playing too loud (damned loud drummer) a long time ago on that cab. Maybe a 2x12 or a 4x10.

I say do away with it. You can always stand in its former location if you need to make use of the perspective it gave you, but will benefit from the ability to situate yourself in different loci with ease.
Destroy the box.
