Seymour Duncan
Hey,
I've got a Jackson with custom Jackson pickups. I want to upgrade to somthing a bit more beafier and thought that Seymour Duncans will cut it. I play mainly heavy stuff with occasional changes to clean. Any suggestions on the best set of pickups?
Cheers

What kinda jackson is it? you might wanna just upgrade to a better guitar that comes standard with JB/59 or JB/Jazz combo....Schecters and some Jacksons have that.
If you want to just upgrade pups, then the JB/Jazz, JB/59 combination is a standard.

Cheers.
Its a JS30 with a reversed headstock-standard dinky design. It was a bargain coz here in Australia its rare you will come accross a good jackson guitar with a reversed head. Upgrading the entire guitar will take ages (ordering and all that) and be very pricey... Thats why I want some new pickups instead.

JB/Jazz is always a safe bet.
I have an Invader, and I am happy with it. A lot of people don't seem to like them because OMG DEY R MUDDI. They're not too muddy with my setup. The Invader works well with what I play, though I'd switch it for JB anyday, but I'm simply too lazy to do so.

JB/Jazz... that's a combo that I still keep time comes for me to buy new PU's for my Jackson JS30 Kelly. They're pretty much THE passive pickups for all kinds of music, versatile as fuck. But I'm not sure if they can do death metal real well, hence why I'm going with some higher output Dimarzio pickups.

On a similar note, I have a pretty damn bright guitar: canadian silver-leaf and rock maple neck, fretboard, body and pickups with ferrite magnets.
Now, I like the bright sound both distorted and clean, although with the ferrite magnet in the stock pickups it's a bit too much with heavy distortion.
What would you fine people recommend me if I want to keep the bright sound but remove the 'mosquito attack' overtones for the bridge pu while still giving out a reasonably high output?
I was looking at perhaps a SD Custom (SH-5) [or a Dimarzio Tone Zone, although I'm afraid the Tone Zone will make things a little too thick].
Thanks.

Yertle, you probably want a JB/Jazz if you like bright tones.

I strongly considered that, but I fear that my guitar will in fact become a mosquito attack of relentless eardrum destroying death (in the negative sense) if I use an especially high-mid peak pickup like the JB...
So I'm looking for something that has a good degree of outpout power and clear sound like the JB, but with a little more rounded sound and more prominent low end. I also play quite a few 'strange' chords, so I do need a pretty defined sound.
The Jazz in the neck is definately considered though, should I decide to change that one too.

if you want really high output from a passive, try the x2n. hotter than the invader, and clearer too.

Yes, I've read these pages several times through before asking, but will the X2N further accentuate the already quite high brightness of my guitar OR am I overestimating the effect of tone woods on the sound of my guitar?
It sounds quite good acoustic, but when plugged it is a bit too trebly (this is partially also due to my amp being a Marshall VS, though with heavily cut treble and added bass).
Maybe I should be asking about tone woods first...whole different topic though.

it's hard to tell if it's the stock pickups, the woods, the amp, the settings, ect...
so many variables.

Alright, I'll just keep looking for information regarding this problem and trying out pickups whererever I can find them. Thanks for your patience.
