looking for a new guitar, not sure what to get.
I'm looking for something with unique sound and style, that can throw out some serious crunch but also be versitile. I've been looking around recetly at the Ibanez Iceman, as well as some schecters, but my main problem is I'm just not really sure what I want, I just know I want a "different" sound. My price range right now probably tops out at about 500-600.
Anyway thanks for any help

Schecters in that price range w/ diff. pickups can sound really good, they're a good deal. I'm not sure which model, but maybe you can find a nice LTD or something like that too.

Yes, since I was outbid on an RG 470 tonight (fucking snipers!), I'll be looking for a new guitar again. I don't know if I'm going with the Epiphone Les Paul Standard or not.

Sound is in your hands
I have Gibsons , Deans , ESPs , LTDs ,I sound almost the same with every guitar , sure there are slight differences but by and large its sounds like me Which is great of course LOL Hendrix sounded like Hendrix even when he played gibsons.
The only difference would be if you are playing a 100 POS and comparing it with a 3k Les Paul , but if its equalivent instruments , your technique and the way you attack the strings will determine your sound.
even more important than your choice of axes is your amp, you can sound great with a crappy guitar and good amp and sound like poo with a million dollar axe and crud amp
good luck

I'd go with a mid-range jackson, esp, or ibanez, and I'd beef up the P/U's or just get a mid-range esp, they come with EMG 81/85 on some and 81/60's on others. That will get ya not exactly a unique sound, but some high-output punch that is signature to metal.

I've played a Schecter C-1 Classic before and I fuckin loved it. But it probably won't have all the crunch you'll want if you play really brutal shit, but that can be fixed with more powerful pickups.

So im gunna say a jackson RR3, which i recently bought, and im gunna say it was well worth the price, should have been even more expensive. its light, and packs a punch..but its not really a ripping power chord guitar, its a fast solo guitar...and any guitar by "hammer"because they are vercitile, and could give the "crunch" sound you want.

They are no less metal than a Les Paul.

EMG's or Dimarzio's would be my choice. Check out some Jim Dunlop ones too.

Converge makes it work.
Of course, they use Marshalls so there's a mid overload. I'm interested what it sounds like through a Boogie.

maybe like everybody else
has said but pickups and amp are probably more deciding of sound than the guitar .... alot of guitars are built the same unless theres a significant price difference ... or its a new guitar company offering something else

Schecters IMO are alot better than most Ibanezs, there better built, so go with Schecters, but the one thing i hate about them is there lack of tremelos all the ones in my area are string through body or just stationary.
