Getting a guitar repainted

I'm bidding on a guitar now, and I like the paintjob. It lacks the gusto of this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-RG-570-G...bayphotohosting

So I'm thinking about getting this guitar i'm bidding on repainted. Does anyone know if I'd be able to send my body away to get painted in the color of that^ or something similar? Any websites that will do it? I'd appreciate any info.

Funny that you posted that.

I just got an Ibanez RG570 off e-bay as well last month. Crazy enough, the body had a few dings, so I'm gonna get it repainted too, but I'm gonna do it myself, so I don't know of any places where you can send it off to, but I'm sure there's plenty that will do it. It's quite costly though...

I'm not talking about that one, genius. I'm talking about getting it painted LIKE that one. If i could do it myself, I definately would. Only problem is getting the paint in a color like that. Is there a special pain that I use?

Try your local car body and paint shop, that's where I went to get info and supplies for my project. It's not lacquer based, it's acrylic based, but I've been told it's just as good. They had paints from every make of vehicle domestic and import, ...some pretty wild colors. They'll even give you books with samples of all the colors. I would even bet you could prob just get them to paint for ya as well.

Alright. I'll try that then. Maybe I can show them that picture, and see if they can get the same mirror black pearl paint for me.

Thats NOT THE GUITAR. Anyone who is literate (sorry, or takes the time to actually read it) can figure that out.

do it yourself it will cost less and you will learn about the guts of your guitar, where all the electrical shit comes from and goes to.

I have heard from numerous sources that car paint is excellent for guitars.

but that paint job shouldn't be hard to achive on your own you just need acsess to a good buffer with a fresh cloth on it, paint it with the pearl black give a couple clear coats and buff, buff, buff until you can see yourself in it and.....viola. beautiful new paintjob for the old axe.

Hah. Sounds like alot of work, but i'll talk to my dad about it more. He suggested not doing it.

And sorry, M_C. Been stressed out lately. I'll be a tiny bit more specific next time.

Alright, so I mentioned it to Pa, and he said it would be a bitch to do, and come out looking GOOD, for that matter. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge on doing this? I want to try it (going with whoever said clear coat: dark grey undercoat [or two], 3-4 coats of clear paint might be in order?), but I'm afraid I'll end up fucking it up. I guess attempting it on a piece of shit, or blank body might be a better idea first?

Even practise it on a peice of similar wood,so you can work out the exact method you will need to apply to your guitar.Even if you make a mistake when your painting your guitar you can strip it and do it again.

yes! i was thinking of that. I might even redo my current Rg 370dx in a high-gloss black, and the new one in a dark blue or dark grey mirror. Its a basswood body, so I guess my next task would be going to the local lumber shop, purchasing a few small pieces of basswood to text it on?

And I guess the cost is gonna come into play, but really, its a small price to pay for saying you custom'ed the fuck out of your guitar.

I don't see anything wrong with that paintjob. You can't go wrong with black.
It's really up to you. I know a guy who paid $700 to paint a $600 guitar. To me that's just stupid. The paintjob doesn't do anything for your guitar's sound, so why waste your money. I mean sure, if you found a killer Les Paul but it was hot pink, that would justify a paintjob no matter what the cost, but what this guy did was totally ridiculous.
Knowing that you are a beginner and you are gonna use the guitar for in home practice, I'd say painting it would be a bad idea. The paint that's on it already looks pretty good, and believe me, you're gonna be bumping and hitting that thing all over the place, which will cause additional paint chips. Unless your paint is just peeling right off of your guitar in big ass chunks, then don't bother with it. Buy that one, play the shit out of it, bang it around, it won't matter to you as much as it would if it were a brand new coat of paint that you just paid $700 for. Shit, I don't know if you ever saw Dimebag Darrel's Dean From Hell, (it's the blue one with the lightning on it), but that thing was just banged up like nobody's business. He had chunks of paint missing everywhere, yet he continued playing that thing for years without ever painting it.
Paint chips can be kinda like battle scars on your axe, and can give it a little bit of personality. I say instead of wasting your money on a new paintjob, either invest it towards a better guitar, or get guitar lessons.

I have one paint chip left by the guy who installed my pickups. He's lucky I didn't shove my headstock up his ass sideways. I might sand down my RG370dx as well and give it a gloss/mirror black.

And yes, I'm starting to get horny over Mirror Paintjobs.

I've started re-doing my Ibanez RG570. Currently stripping the old paint job off with paint remover, sanding didn't work quite well. Apparently the 'newest' paint job was laid right over the original. fucker didn't even do it right. I'll post some pics as the process goes along.

Have the guitar painted with the blood of your enemies.

But seriously, I think I'd like to have a mirror-finished guitar laying around.
