There may not be threads dedicated to Vortex, but there are more than one thread that explains different singing techniques.

Just sing along with the song and try and match the tone...eventually you will hit tones and figure out tonal quality.

clean vocals can be hard after growling a while. just drink some lemon juice and practice simple melodies.

Which really in theory doesn't have anything to do with being better after you growl, it's after you've cleared your throat. And drinking some specific form of liquid won't help you any more than just drinking normal ol' water.

I find that Vortex's vocals sound much better live than on the CDs, I really like his vocals. So very full of feeling and despair, creates a really great kind of mood to the song.

Well, here's a couple of tips:

1) Learn how to breathe properly for singing. This can take quite awhile, if you are serious about it then I suggest you get singing lessons (they will teach you breathing) from your school chorus teacher or from a private teacher. It will help you trememdously with both singing and with growling/screaming.

2) Get one of those CD vocal trainers and sing along with your favorite CD's until you can get the pitches right.

3) Keep at it, singing is one of the hardest things to do (other than scoring with a hot chick) in my opinion

Hope I Helped

1) Don't try to mimic any singer, doing so just cuts your tallent in half. Singing comes from within, not a CD or someone else.
2) Lemon juice or anything else like that doesnt make you sing, learning how to propery sing will make you sing.
3) First you must find your own pitch, do not try and do out side of that when you first begin, doing so is just stupid. Find your range and your pitch, get comfortable with them. Then you can increase your range to hit those high or low notes.
4) If it hurts... SHUT UP... The only good thing you can do for your voice if its hurting is to SHUT UP. Lemon juice or w/e wont do shit for you. Also whispering is just as bad as doing it wrong. If you are hurting yourself stop and learn to do it right.
5) Have fun! and don't hurt yourself!!!

Don't drink cold water or ANYTHING cold before you sing. Not good, it tenses up your vocal chords. And growling or screaming will damage the vocal chords as well... It is not good for your voice at all but I am not saying it's dumb or not to do it... It's just known fact. Don't believe me then take vocal classes and ask them. The first thing you need to do is learn to breathe right. I am wanting to learn to sing as well and haven't taken any classes but have talked to vocalists and read up on it a lot so far and they all said (books including) that breathing is the FIRST step to singing or getting good at it.
Good luck and don't give up, it will take a TON of time but you will get there. I sure the hell know I haven't gotten there yet and far from it.

Singing on-key is the hardest and most important part with clean vocals. Practice along with an instrument such as a guitar. When the guitar is playing a note, match that with your voice to the same key. You should be able to do a Low Medium and High ... say E for exaple, with your voice. Lots of singers can do 4..5..+ levels. That's what i've learned over the years, I have to work on voice projection since I havent sang for 2 years now and just started again recently. I guess its easy to forget everything you've learned.
