I've played and like it alot. What do you guys think? Worth the 5-or-so hundred they're asking at my local store?

Ill need an amp to go with it, something I can play live. What would you suggest? Think band stuations and on stage.

There are better basses then ibanez out there...you just have to pay more.

Plus, this is the bass with the BOOM button, yes? Cos that's the one I've played, I don't think boom was on but either way it sounded awesome.

As far as amps go, remember what you need it for...to hear yourself. By that, I mean if you are playing a club, the crowd isn't hearing your amp, they are hearing your sound through the front-of-house PA system. Usually, that sound is coming from a DI that is before your amp input in the signal chain. The only reason you actually need an amp on stage is to hear your basslines. Most soundguys (or gurls...lol) will tell you that if your stage volume is too loud, they can't do their jobs, and will just take you out of the mix. Not to mention, this drowns out the rest of your band and overall, you'll sound both shitty and totally amateurish.

As for any studio work, if you want an amazing tone, go rent top-end pro gear for the 2 or 3 days it'll take to lay down your bass tracks.

So basically, the amp is mearly there for you to hear both onstage and at rehearsals. With this in mind, look for something in the 350-400W range that is affordable, yet durable. Personally, I'm all for the Yorkville 400BH through a 4x10 and a 15. It give tons of punch, nice treble (the 410 has a tweeter in it) and amazing bottom end. And you can throw it down a flight of stairs, it'll withstand a ton of punishment!

I see a lot of bassists out there that go WAAAAY overboard (used to be one myself...) with double 2x15 cabs, massive rackmounts, poweramps, pedals, etc., and it's always funny to watch the poor guy move more gear than the drummer! And unless you are heavily into effects (more than just some chorus or OD that's constantly on) there is no need for that amount of gear.

Sorry to ramble on, but it's a very expensive lesson to learn, and I had to learn it the hard way.

totally, i have the ampeg b2r (350w older model but awesome nonetheless) and a 4x10 and a 1x15..thats all i need, anything too much more than that is overkill and is mostly for bragging rights

hehehe...bragging rights are funny as hell come the end of a long show, when you have to rent a cube van just to move your rig! I used to have 2 2x15 Mesaboogie cabs, a huge rack with pre-amp, compressor, graphic eq, 4 band parametric eq, and 2 400W poweramps. It used to take me almost 1/2 hour to set the damn thing up, let alone moving all that gear, just to hear a sound man tell me it's too loud for the club, unhook 1/2 of it.

i wouldnt recomend it one it has 22 frets which i didnt like at all coz it is tough reaching the 18/19th frets comparitively...and another reason is that has an agathis body.which really isnt that good....the tone of the guitar/bass depends quite a bit on the wood which is used (different woods hav diff. sounds).try getting the 400 or 405 model is the money is not much of an issue.

I own a GSR 190. Decent construction, I'm going to replace the stock pickups with EMG's to make up for the shitty wood and it'll be a killer bass.
