Does anyone here...
have a guitar amp setup that is composed of a combo amp powering a cab?
i was just curious, because i dont know much about this sort of thing, and i never see anyone with pictures depicting this, and im always wondering why. pretty soon im buying a $600 combo amp, and if i really like the tone, i was considering buying a cab later on to hook up to it and make it louder. is this possible, and are there any reasons to do it, or to avoid it? since a combo amp includes a power amp and a preamp.. i dont see why this couldnt work...

It is very much possible depending on what combo you get.

I've done it before with my Crate combo and my 5150 cab. Hell, I even hooked up my Crate to my friend's Line6 Combo. Just check and see if your combo has an input for an extension speaker.

Most decent amps you can do it easily.

Its possible, on almost any combo amp.
First possibility is if the combo has a special "out" output for a cab. Some combo's have a headphone output, you can hook it up that way too, but it probably won't be recommenden.
Even so, you can always rewire the speaker of your combo that way, that instead of the signal going to your combo speaker, it goes to a cab. It is easier than it sounds, tough I have never done it myself.

okay. second question (i'm going to try and play both of these before i buy one, but nonetheless...), between these two combo amps, which should i purchase?
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
or
Peavey Classic 50/212
I'm mainly concerned about having the best cleans possible. I'm in an instrumental prog rock band in the vein of Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed, etc, and I need an amp for this purpose; I am still a fan of metal, but my guitar playing generally is not headed in a 'metal' direction. I want a nice combo amp with good cleans.
So? Any suggestions not listed there? My price range is looking to be about $500-600, though if it is totally necessary, I am willing to wait a few more months to get enough cash for a bigger amp. However, size isn't the issue. Both of those amps are more than loud enough to suit my purpose...
KK. Tell me what you think.

That Peavey looks pretty sweet too. I've played that Fender amp before and it was so nice. Real easy amp to find good tone with.

They are both decent, but i preffered the fender for cleans. But now that you have it narrowed down to two amps,go out and try them and decide.
