C# Tuning

I've never tuned my guitar to C# before, how does one go about doing so?

Set your guitar down in front of you, raise your arms high in the air (like you're summoning Christ), and start chanting C# over and over while gradually gaining volume. That should do it. Or you can do it the orthodox way and buy a tuner and turn those mysterious knobs at the head of your guitar.

You want to play some Dying Fetus, Suffocation or other nice bands with the mp3?

Then tune your guitar in C#.

C#, F#, E, B, G#, C# is what you should be aiming for

If you have your guitar in standard E right now, all you have to do is drop all of the strings' tuning 1 and 1/2 steps down. So tune your guitar to D like if you were to play some Death, Vader, Children of Bodom, etc. then drop it a half-step more. Behemoth use this tuning for most songs on Demigod.

I Usually tune my guitar to B first. Than start tuning the fifth string up untill it becomes drop B. Than I tune the b string to match the string you tuned up. than tune the rest. If you know what I mean

You probably need to get your axe set up

If you decide to downtune to C# you will need a set up and for sure use heavier gauge strings otherwise they will flap like rubberbands.
I found a way to get around all that is use the detune function on the whammy that drops you down a whole step ,so if you tune to Eb when you use the whammy you will be in C#.
Or you can use a baritone guitar but thats usually tuned to B or A
good luck.

rollingeyesAGREED! In reference to C# anyway, (maybe i was missing something...?) But I find tuning down to around C# just makes it sound a little thicker, adds a little more crunch than E...It may be psychological and it may just be me going off topic here, anyway.

But yeah obviously get some thicker strings. I use Beefy Slinkys (i know i know stay away from ernie ball) which are .11s, if that is any help. But to be fair I think this post is redundant now, there is an answer to the question which was already kinda...weird.

It isnīt. Cause one put the guitars in E all the other put it in E too (Thats ridiculous).

I think that all of people didnīt use the same string gauges nor the same guitar nor the same pickups no the same tuning.

Quoting from a Steve Vai interview :

"''Bad Horsie' was inspired by the riff from the guitar dual section in 'Crossroads' when I'm imitating the train. In the 'Crossroads' film I had my sixth string tuned to 'D' but in 'Bad Horsie' it's tuned to 'C' [that is, dropped 'D' tuning but all the strings tuned down an additional tone] - a little heavier. I used a natural finished Jem with Evolution pickups and strung 10 through to 52 to give it more support - if you use light strings and tune that low they get kinda flabby ...."

And to this day his "Bad Horsie" guitar is kept in C, which you can read about in the "Virtuoso" issue ( him with Zakk and Alexi ) of Guitar World.

I'd say Steve Vai is pretty good

And lets not even forget all the virtuosos who use seven strings. And there are some flat out virtuosos who tune to even B and lower. And no, I'm not talking about Slipknot's guitarists. Listen to Defeated Sanity, Odious Mortem and Severed Saviour. Expand your horizons some

M'kay...
If you have a handy tuning device with a button called "flat" on it just press it till 3 b's appear, and then tune you guitar just like usual... And tadaa, it's C#

I think it wouldn't help him much if you'd just say you have to tune it to C# F# B E G# C#

Just mess with your tuning device, there must be a function to flatten the tuning.

edit: oh, or you have a chromatic tuner, than it IS usefull to know what tuning, lol

Hahah!

And C# is nothing. I have played in fucking G. Not that I want a prize or anything, I'm just saying. My new guitar is either going in D, or C. I haven't decided yet. I would put in B, but I have a detuner on my RP7 to take care of that. Its not so great for much in between E and B (takes too much effort to tune).

Too low is Meshuggah. They pull it off, but F is just fucking NUTS. I'm waiting for someone to put the 9 string full fucking octave down.

When your tuning your strings that low or changing the gauge don't you get sound problems from your guitar if you don't adjust them? Well my guitar sounded to buzzy after changing to a different gauge and adjusting it helped. Do all of you just tune down that low without worrying about adjustments and your guitars still sounds good?

one of my guitars tuned to E octave below, equivalent to a standard tune bass. im using a 70 gauge string and its still abit loose, but its ultimate for deathgrind.

I want an 8-string.

My Halo is a 27.5, when it arrives I'm thinking of tuning it to an 8 string tuning ( since 27.5 is essentially a baritone scale )
