spilling water
i was just wondering.. how one should go about ACCIDENTALY spilling water on your guitar while on stage..does this present an electrical problem for your pickups? i know there is danger of messing up the wood, but im more interested knowing if it could damage you pickups or , if you can get shocked...i have seen bands do it live and the water was all over the place and it didnt do anything..i have done it a couple of times too at shows. and nothing seemed to happen...will anything happen or does the water have to go in pretty deep to mess with the circuitry? thanx in advance.

well it shouldnt mess with the pickups cause good ones should be wax dipped and sealed off, and EMGS are completly sealed off. I dunno if it would affect pots and what not, but how the fuck would you get water down in that cavity, much less why the fuck are you getting water all over your guitar? I recomend you to stop doing that.

I agree...stop doing it....
but I dont know of any way that it would hurt...if you dont dry it off well you could get rust on your poles,pots,etc...but all of your circuits should be pretty well sealed off...

ha ha well the reason im getting water everywere is becouse the singer in my band and i myself seem to like dumping water on our heads when it gets hot on stage. if i dont get it everywere he run around and splashes water with his long hair. but anyway i have emg's and my guitar has some nice paint on it so it wont mess up the wood. and i try and dry it of my guitar but you cant always do that on stage. but i was more worried about electric shock. thanx ha ha.

Well, I've heard stories of like Kiss getting shocked when rain came down while they were playing. On the other hand, I was watching a BLS DVD of mine, and Zakk kept constantly splashing beer all over himself with his guitar and his guitar was like dripping full of beer, and nothing was happening so....

You would get shocked pretty damn bad if while you were playing somebody poured a bucket of water on your amp.

I think its a kind of a random thing? I have seen people play in complete rain open skies and get soaking wet and not a thing happened to them. either way its probably not good and I sure wouldnt be doing it

Worse than the normal ton of sweat that may do it, but be sure to dry the guitar when you're done--obviously.

Yeah, I've seen Vai do that. At the G3 thing or whatever. He puts his guitar up to his face, smacks his lips, and he started sliding his tongue all over the pickups and strings and stuff.

Water isn't really conductive.
Alcohol should be a bigger problem...

Water and electricity are not good bed fellows to mix.
Whereas pure water is not a very good conductor the kind of water you will be normally exposed to will contain disolved solids such as salts and other minerals. And these can create a very good conductor even if only a small amount of suspended mineral solid is present.
Dry skin can help the body deal with an electrical shock very well, but wet skin does little to block the charge and the body can sustain major damage.
I'm not sure if using a wireless unit would limit the risk? But remember if might not be your guitar that jolts you it could be your effects rack or your amp if you go to fiddle with settings etc when soaking wet.

How many volts and amperes are there on your guitar while playing?
Is it regulated by the amp?

Guitar Fetus, you dump water on your head? Why don't you try a fan instead? It would save you the possibilty of electrical failure.
