I pretty much agree with you on both of those.I would love to know why Bush didn't put a stop to the sale of automatics,what is the point of having one? If your just going to be hunting,you would never use one because most autos have a three round burst.Which would blow away most of the meat.Thats assuming your hunting for food instead of just killing the animal for the fun of it(god I hate people like that).

I don't agree with sport hunting either. Even when I fish I catch and release unless it dies or I'm going to eat it. I usually bury the remnants in one of my flowerbeds or in my garden when I have one to add nutrients to the ground.

In my country gun control is quite strict but people still find way to kill each other. IMO poeple should be able to buy guns but not auto and semi autos as Transient said. However guns won't help with the stupid laws we have. Imagine situation when someone attacks you with knive and you shoot him. In Poland you'll go to jail!! There's been one case when man who took burglar's gun and shoot him in the eye so he make him blind was sentenced for 3 years in jail. At this point in time, gun control is only wishful thinking. There are so many guns out there now that are off the books and whatnot, that it'd be impossible to control the distribution. Background checks, history checks, IQ tests, whatever, it isn't going to help. If a guy can't get a .22 at a gun shop, he'll just end up getting a .45 from a gun dealer down the street for half the price. I think the problem is way out of control at this point.
Making guns illegal in the US would in my opinnion have reprocussions similar to those of the Prohibition. The value of guns on the black market would skyrocket, they would become the comodity of the day, flavor of the week, what have you, and it would lead to inevitable bloodshed.
Back during the war, my father had a AK-47, a semi automatic rifle, and a couple hand grenades on hand at any given time. I knew where they were at and was very much intrigued by them, but I wasn't about to start pulling any fucking pins or triggers. Plus for holidays, my dad would hold the rifle for us and let us squeeze out a couple shots, which made me feel fucking great.
I know people who had heavy machine guns and rocket launchers, but there were hardly any casualties from misuse. I do know of a case when some kid was showing off his dad's sniper rifle to his friends and shot one of 'em in the spleen. The kid barely made it out alive.
I guess my point is, it doesn't matter what kind of guns you have, if you educate yourself and those around you on just how fucking deadly these things are, casualties can be avoided. Also, keeping the weapon and the ammo separate can't hurt either.
And automatic weapons such as SMGs and assault rifles, as cool and badass as they are, really have no place in civilian life. Unless you live in the middle of fucking South Central, I just can't imagine a realistic scenario where you'd need to use one of these weapons. 45s are cool, though, becasue the very sight of one makes people shit their pants in fear, so you hardly end up using the fucking thing. 9 milimeters just don't have that kind of intimidation power.
Wearing a bulletproof west can often help, too.

This was not in the States. This was during the early to mid '90s in Bosnia.
And yes, I have seen these things. Hell, the bus stop resembled a guerrilla outpost more than anything else. There were always people there trying to catch the bus, (and I do mean THE bus), or hitch a ride with someone who had either heavy weaponry or battle wounds. Needless to say, the guy with the crutches and the bandages around his head had a much better chance of getting a ride from soneone than a heavily armed big dude with fucking war paint on his face.
I actually had an empty Stinger tube I used to play with all the time. It was pretty cool, alas, you couldn't shoot down planes with it.

That was the most shameful moment in police history. I actually thought it was quite funny that the stupid cops didn't know what to do, and they kept shooting at those guys with their tiny little 9mm handguns, even though they KNEW the situation with the body armor. I think that, if you tallied it up, you'd find it actually decriminalizes more government actions than the total number of civilian actions it criminalizes. In Australia, fully automatic weapons are illegal (and have always been), semi-automatic weapons are illegal, handguns are illegal. There are REALLY strict gun lisencing laws (i think the permit is about $360 [~$500 US]). To be able to own the guns, you also need to keep them locked up, unloaded with the amunition in a seperate locker.

My view on guns is that there is no puropse for any type of weapon other than a single shot rifle in hunting. If you cant hit it on the first shot, its going to run away, and you wont be able to try again. Here, people generally shoot rabbits, foxes and feral cats - none of these are for food, but because they are pests.
Handguns for 'protection' is because you are afraid that other people might have guns, and there is no purpose for automatic or semi-automatic weapons other than killing things.

Over here on a normal lisence you can own shotguns and rifles (can be semi-auto, but rifles can only have a 10 round clip without a special lisence), maybe crossbows too i think.
You need special lisences for semi-auto military weapons, types of shotguns and pistols ect. Anything that you cant get from a gun-shop really.
All that lisence requires is a special way of locking up for weapons and a special type of alarm for your house.
Pistols just need to be in a certain thickness safe.

The gun laws here in the UK are fairly tight. You have to apply for licences. You then have to go through a Criminal Records Bureau check to see if you are a person of criminal intent or have a record. They also check to see if you've been sectioned under the mental health act or have had any psychological disorders that could impede the clarity of ya rational thought.
If I recall the guns have to be kept in a locked cabinet and the police do spot checks to ensure they are secure.
The only problem with the checks is that you have to be in the system already for then to deny you gun access should you be deemed unfit. So if they aren't aware of you're deep rooted psychosis...oh dear!

If the media is to be believed, gun crime is up in the UK. Turns out our sheep like tendencies to follow every trend that comes from over the pond will be our downfall. We have more teen gansta wannabies packing a piece because they think it's cool!

Yep, however I hear it's much easier to obtain a license which limits you to blank ammunition, on the pretence of being a re-enactor. And it's much easier to illegally obtain live ammunition than it is an actual gun!

On the subject of longbows/recurve bows, one with a 35 lb draw weight and broadhead arrows could easily pierce through human flesh, and is so easy to draw that even one as weak as Dissection would have no trouble firing it. A budget crossbow also seems like it could do the business quite well, however I'm not sure how easy it is to find suitable hunting bolts in the UK.

That's more myth than reality.....the few times it's ever happened....there were good reasons for the homeowner to be punished.
The most famous case was the exchange student from Asia.....was drunk and lost and knocking on peoples doors at 1:00am in the morning.....homeowner shot the kid through the front door......thinking his knocking was too agressive.

I knew that cake tester would come in handy for something.

The first mistake that person did when shooting through the door was not to let the person enter the house. When someone was using my truck before I drove when I was in Cali and my hubby was on a cruise, the other guy must have royally irritated someone. My Dick Cepek 16 1/2 Desert Duelers(expensive) had holes in the inner sidewalls of 2 of the tires while it was parked in my bay. I called the Sherriff. Then 2 nights later one of the same tires plus another was done. I called them back out and asked what if someone was trying to get at me and my kids in my apartment. He asked if I had weapons. I told him what we had. He said to let them enter, say that I was armed and calling the police, and to leave. While I was doing that he told me to let them hear the slide action on my 12 gauge riot gun. If they didn't leave hearing that to grab the one I actually could shoot and aim for the chest.
I had no more problems though fortunately and the plugs in the tires lasted for a lot of years. My neighbor took care of them for me.

I never shot it when we had. I saw what the guys' arm looked like after they shot and I saw a guy sitting on the ground shooting get knocked backwards. Nope, I would have used the .357 since that had staggered loads in it.

I used to leave my doors unlocked all the time because the boys friends would come over sometimes and crash on the couch or something. But someone must have known where I kept my purse to walk in the back door and walk out while everyone was home and my oldest was half asleep on the couch. There was a cd player and a case of cd's sitting right next to it. They left those.
We had suspicions who it was, but no proof. I used to only lock them when i went somewhere. But needless to say, my doors and windows are locked when I go to bed now. And I can't imagine it was any of the kids that came over. Even the rougher ones. Oh god...it's sweet and smooth and very little recoil for the extreme power it's punching out. SKS is also extremely accurate and brutal. Shoots the same round as an AK-47 but is more for accuracy than autospray effect.

I love my 300 h&h mag. That's my favorite rifle by far

In Switzerland, the government arms the citizenry. You average Giueseppe Sechs-Paquet may own and be capable of operating something like a SAW. When I was in Switzerland, I barely made it out alive due to all the guns. Oh, wait, no, it was peaceful and relaxing. I mean, if you ignored all those damn Swiss. Man, I hate the Swiss.

Point is, guns aren't the entire problem. The problem is having an unlikable citizenry responsible enough not to kill each other.

Oh, and SARS, it's not cool to steal material from somebody who tells jokes for a living. Funny's his livelihood; don't take it away.
