well, i've saved up quite a bit for a head, and these amps are within my budget, but i need to know which one is the best one for me.

the kind of tones i like is slayer, killswitch engage, chimaira etc
which of these heads would suit me?

modefour - muddy.. it can do most tones but tres muddy.

good cleans tho but i still wouldnt buy it.

and its over priced, ha, doesnt have alot going for it.

Those are all very diff. style bands you listed, so go with the triple xxx and get versatility. it can nail all of those sounds you want good.

and on a side note, which is better, the XXX or the 5150?

if you want slayer, get a marshall JCM 800 and stick a boost pedal (SD-1, Bad Monkey) in front of it. It's probablly be cheaper than any of those options besides the peavey 5150s.

XXX = versatility, but it seems to me to be a jack of all trades, but I've heard it does high-gain damn well.

5150 = grind, grit, and more grind. This amp is famous for having dist. with balls.


If you want guarenteed good metal, get the 5150.
If you want versatility, get the XXX

if you must obtain a similar tone as slayer then get a jcm800 100watt model, load emg81s in your guitar and fit light gauge daddario strings.

used h&k triamp mk1. could be had for like $900-$1,300 depending on your luck.

Maybe consider a mesa single recto. A used can run from 700 to 900$.
