Just becase its fast doesnt mean it doesnt have emotion. You can have melody and emotion in fast playing.

LOOK AT ME MOMMY!
Fretboard wanking of the highest order!
Was it just me or did that feel like the longest nine minutes ever!
Yes I'll give him credit he's good, he's talented and he's fast...but.....one thing I always remember about noodlers like him is they can't write very good riffs! All that talent and all he can come up with is trem picking an E5 power chord!!!?
Found it boring after a while as he ended up repeating himself a lot plus I need to feel something in someones playing called vibe, feeling or emotion.
That to me is just sterile excuse to show off.

the best part about that song, is that there is a very deep meaning/story behind why it was written.
just look up rodrigo aranjuez adagio on dogpile.com on audio and it should be the first thing u find. the song is ausome

True...
and I'm not putting the guy down or those that like it.
He has a much higher accuracy than myself....that's for sure.
Remember that video posted here of the old guy....balding?
He was jamming in his livingroom......he shredded too but his jam had raw emotion and feeling. Also...a guy sitting and shredding simply looks gay....stand up for christ sakes.

That was so... boring. Yeah he's fast but it's not enjoyable, as with most fretboard masturbators out there...

I thought it was quite enjoyable personally, the only problem I have with that video is how creepy the guy looks at the start when he's staring into the camera

this guy sucks plain and simple.. how you can be so impressed by speed is beyond me. Song writing and phrasing is way more impressive to me.

Didn't fucking shredding die in the 90s or whatever? I see these fuckers who can play fast, but have nothing worth shit in rhythm or emotion. I can't play that fucking fast but at least I have some rhythm in my fucking playing and emotion shit...As I read in an interview with Zakk Wylde. He said that when he joined Ozzy Osbourne, Ozzy came up to him and told him that it wasn't all about speed, but rather emotion and feeling the music. Something like that. Basically what Randy Rhoads did. That is why you probably don't hear to many songs by Zakk Wylde that are pure out speed fests...Anyways my 2 cents...fucking lame ass fucking shredders. You are dead! leave.

I'm not necessarily impressed speed or by him, It's just these people cannot play nearly as good as him but yet claim he sucks. That is all. I know that he is nothing compared to certain other guitarists, but he definitely doesn't suck.

People who say he sucks aren't talking about his technique. He sucks when it comes to songwriting, at which some of the people here are better than him. And he definitely does suck. All those notes and all that technique doesn't make his playing any more interesting than if he'd just been jamming on sloppy one-fingered drop-D power chords. Until he can do something interesting, everybody's got the right to say he sucks. Because he sucks.

It's possible to be both fast and emotional. Dude just hasn't gotten the hang out of it, since it's a lot easier to teach yourself technique than good songwriting. 'sWhy we have so many faceless shredders out there.

Yeah that guy was great but i've seen like too many of them. It's fucking boring to watch somebody just shred a hole fucking song. I think that instrumental song has to have at least one pretty slow riff. It gets so boring otherwise. But that's just my statement, maybe i'm wrong.

If i wanted speed i'd watch the speed kills video where MAB busts out the kung fu and does that thing where he flails violently. But i dont. So fuck that.
If you want bland playing without substance you may as well watch someone who can do it faster.

I gave a very credible reason as to why this did nothing for me.
Yes he is fast, yes he is good, I'm not denying he has talent, but I require substance with my playing. More often what a player chooses to leave out does more for the song than cramming it silly with sweep picked scales played at warp factor 6.
This sort of thing only appeals to 12 year olds new to the scene, most grow out of it.

MAN THAT WAS
fucking boring, he can play and hes fast, but most of all hes boring, that makes it sound like shit to me, so yeah hes sucks
and i agree with dahmers fridge's post above.
say take michael angelos speed lives and/or speed kills, thats fast aswell, but that sound like more than this whit its BORING back track, and those stupid thay at the same note for a hour stuff, that just kills the song IMO.

its incredible how u fools make such a big fuckin issue of these kind of things! All i said was that this guy is good, and now everyone is pissed off about it. i know there is better stuff out there, but that doesnt mean it sux. its not like he was hitting random notes, he actually had patterns, and it was all in key, and it seemed to flow pretty well. i thought it was good. i like fast playing, that doesnt make me "new to the scene". i like slow playing too. whatever, i thought this guy was good. Go ahead and bitch at me. i dont care.

Like all art forms, music is subjective. For me this doesn't blow my skirt up!
If you like it that's cool, we all have different tastes, but please don't gripe when you post something that people have a differing opinion on.
Nobodies slagged you for liking it(others have said they like it too) but your last post is most likerly gonna draw attention of the flaming kind.

nobody's making a 'big fuckin issue' issue out of anything. when you make a thread, expect that some peoples opinions might be different than yours. you sound alot like one of my friends. zerton, i think you know who i mean lol.. (hes still my friend tho) but yes. you make a thread to hear other persons opinions. not to hear what you want to hear

he's good but the song is gets boring fast. However these kind of clips, while not too enjoyable to listen too, are great motivational tools for picking up the guitar and practicing.

No there isn't. All guitar playing's about is how consistently you can sweep. Stupid. That's why Necrophagist are the best band of all time.

i liked small parts, but most of it was just boring as shit.
And yeh, you're only TOTALLY COOL is you stand while you play. Only losers sit down. Oh yea, btw, its all about the way you look when you play. And oh yea, if you disagree with me or say anything bad about me, that obviously means you need to get laid.

Haha I just showed my friend some of this today and it's funny when you watch some of his lesson videos. He plays the lick really slowly at first then.....aweorawoeifhawoefhoaweifhwoef..... he just busts it out at like a million notes per second.
EDIT: Oh fuck sorry, is this Farreri or Cooley or...? Shit haha I gotta actually watch the video

He's a sick sweeper and knows his modes, but doesn't have any creativity in writing riffs. Plus, he either done a sweep, or a linear run, nothing else, not much of anything else, but he definitely is good.

I'm sorry it's true. The 80's was littered with guitar master albums! And do you hear much from these people now? Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore are these guys still releasing albums? Does anyone care?
When I was young Malmsteen blew me away but I soon tired ot the constant need to show case how fast he could sweep. Soon it becomes clear that the song is secondary to the fret board showmanship. I always feel that the solo should add to the song not over run it.
Ok, maybe 12 was a bit harsh

He started out as a keyboard player then swithced to playing guitar later.
The last album I heard he released was 'Freedom To Fly' back in the early 90's.
What's he done since?

Another one of those cases where form defeats function. The people are trying. . . Hrm, TRYING. . . to make a name for themselves as a virtuoso.

Ehh im not gonna go criticising people, because regardless if its not your bag or you think its stupid, you should still respect a guy for their hard work regardless. i see so many people that play slow too that suck that have no emotion, but i hear amateur players say that they have alot of emotion, blah blah blah, but i dont think they do. (I cant think of who it was, but there was somebody)
But i do have one criticism, which is overlooked by everyone, but is the very very first thing i see when i rate sombody. And i see people that are rippin that are terrible at this, like this guy. His vibrato is terrible. I am a freak when it comes to having serious vibrato, and its just me, whether right or wrong, but when somebody doesnt have good vibrato they are INSTANTLY lower in my book.
And its funny, cause actually i see ten times better vibrato in alot of fast players verses slow players at our levels. I personally think its because all that work on speed gives a certain lightness of the hand, i dont know. just my opinion.
Edit: He also has some cool polyrhythms at sometimes, and i read some people before were saying something about this guy have some good melodic slow stuff, but riddle me this, would the 1 or 2 seconds of melodic stuff have sounded better with vibrato?? Of course, this guy just severely lacks it.

^By talking all 'riddle me this' and my tone of voice, i was only kidding. I am guessing thats what annoyed you.
I just wasn't impressed with his vibrato and think its something that is overlooked by many players, and this guy just proves even the better guitarists of the world lack such an important skill.

yeah those guys have crazy vibrato.
But vibrato is just as important in guitar though, as well as any other instrument that has that technique.

i like vibrato's because they change the tone/feeling by how fast or slow u do it. its fun doing violin style vibratos sometimes

haha "riddle me this" , good one. Well the fact you say you look down on a player because of his/her vibrato just annoyed me because according to people around hear I cant bend/vibrato properly, I havn't had the chance/known anyone with the knowledge to show me the proper way to bend or vibrato. Doesn't mean you should look down on me . But look down if you must, while I keep practicing till I am up to your par.

I see what your saying, but nobody really taught me to vibrato, i just watch all my favorite players, then just practice it for a long time. And not saying that my vibrato is perfect, which it is no where near, but one thing i do do is practice it and try to make regular use out of it as all our guitar heroes would.
But my whole point about the whole vibrato thing, is this guy is coming off to me at least that he is one of those players that wants to or already is to some people an up and coming guitar player. I am not sure how popular he is, but trust me, even on the lowest levels of guitar in the popular media or whatever, even those guitarists have better developed vibrato than this guy. And it annoys me sometimes when people just skip over stuff like vibrato and expect to make it somewhere when another guy out there is working on everything. I have seen plenty of people play as fast as him and still maintain good melodic playing.

yeah and if you note the angle of his arm he couldn't stand while playing unless he used a belt for a strap..retard for the most part but he was fast, accurate and smooth in general (minus the weak rythm he has),
