All those guitarist have exactly the same tone - perfect.
In answer to the question, I really like the sound of the later Immortal guitar sound.

I'm pretty sure he was just saying that they thought that all of those guitarists had great tone not the same tone.
Anyway in answer to your question I'd have to say I enjoy Shadows Fall's tone and Cryptopsy's tone.

For cleans i like Opeths, but older stuff like guns n roses ect
I quite like the distortion used back in the day, like queen was on the radio yesterday (we will rock you) and i thought the tone of the guitar part at the end was real cool/old sounding.
I like tool's tones they use too.
Shit i cant think, way too many to list.

Krisiun's live sound... don't know, sounds much more raw and sharp than on the albums.
Decapitated, Vader, Behemoth(ZKC tone), Terrorizer, newer Immortal(both clean and dirty), and Megadeth/Marty Friedman.

Chuck Schuldiner, "Symbolic." That album is what I want in heavy guitar tone.
As for clean sound, Agalloch. And my clean comes very close to it.

my favorite tone is on killswitch engage's the end of all heartache. number 11 , what ever that one is. at the very end he just holds a power chord or a ninth or sumthin and it sounds so powerfull. there is 2 guitars though.

Behemoths "zos kia cultus" tone
Mastodon's tone is often pretty killer, although muddy at some times. I like their lead tone the most though. The end solo on Elephant Man has a Killer tone.
Carcass' tone on both Heartwork and Swansong is pretty good too.

Yeah Carcass tones were awesome on both those albums, especially Heartwork... their tone had like a ... snarl to it (thats the best i can describe it anyways, it was just awesome )
another tone I like is the Exhumed tone on Gore Metal, it's so thick and brutal, it just suits the title gore metal so perfectly.

Immortal's distortion & clean, same for Dissection.
Also the more dirty sound like Nargaroth and Nachtfalke is great.

Chuck shuldiners and alexi laihos. And also in insonium how the the guitar tone sounds sounds sort of flamboyant and partyish IMO.

The Crown's tone on Possessed 13 is fucking grand. Cephalic Carnage's Anomolies has a very evil sound to it, which i love.

I think Dying Fetus has a very generic tone, nothing amazing. Also a bit too 'dry', lacking bass.
I forgot Psycroptic - Scepter Of The Ancients but I guess a lot of the tone just comes from the fingers, how riffs are played.

Depends what album you're talking about. Listen to Grotesque Impalement, that album has a good amount of bass.
Dragonforce has a decent tone
Morbid Angel - Rapture
Immolation - Close To A World Below

My favorite guitar tones come from Martyr's warp zone and Necrophagist's onset of putrefaction. I love the high gain with lots of clarity, where you can still define the notes, even though its at a super fast speed. As much as I hate metallica these days, it seems we have all forgotten about the sounds of the black album.

Vital Remians tone = pwnage
Severed Savior's tone is my favorite brutal tone right now. And look at that, they use ENGLs, like me
Also, oddly enough, Crotchduster's tone on their brutal parts is awesome o_O. I havent heard Capharnaum, but i imagine they have the same tone.
Ye olde tone? fucking Guns 'n Roses and Aerosmith.
While Alexi Laiho is my fucking hero, he needs to get kicked in the ass...his tone is kinda ice-picky.

Hey, first time poster
I really like Alexi's sound, sounds like razors shredding through stuff. Killswitch Engage is cool too. . . I think they use a line 6 tone core pedal called "uber metal."
I also really like Trivium's sound, does anyone happen to know what kind of distortion they use?

I like the slightly dirty sound of Carlos Santana, the clean electric tone of Opeth on the Still Life Album, the weird almost jazz sound of Spawn of Possession, Akercocke's distorted and clean tones on Choronzon, Anaal Nathrakh's tone on Domine Non Es Dignus.
Death's sound on Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic was great. The cleans were a favorite of mine.
I don't think I have a favorite really but If I was forced to pick, it'd be Necrophagists sound on the album Epitaph. So clear and awesome.
