Samples live
What is the standard for a live band that wants to use pre-recorded (Custom) samples duing a show between songs. Is there anything that can be operated with just a foot switch, so you don't have to mess around with the unit to que up between songs? Something simple and inexpensive....
Thanks in advance.

Make friends with the sound techie you can trust and he'll do it for you.

fairly easy to figure out unit, sounds great, footswitchable, stackable tracks... plenty of space for generic intro or mid song samples.
sure it's not technically a "sampler", but for what kids are doing these days, it should do.
if you want beats and all that jazz, something like a boss 303 might be more what you're looking for.

I'd like some piece of hardware like that, but what I would really need is just something I can load spoken word phrases/sound effects into from my computer, into a MIDI type pedal board ...

if you can figure out a way to just route the soundcard out of your laptop into the PA you should be fine. (and shut off EVERY OTHER DAMN SOUND on your computer. so if it crashes you dont get that error "donk" noise mid song)

I was totally about to suggest that. I'm thinking about buying it once my band starts actually playing my fucking material.

i always thought samples were just on cds and the sound guy played it for you before the song starts... like suffocations "the greatest trick the devil ever told was convincing the world he didnt exist" .... nobody pushed any buttons when that happened

Strange, I just got done listening to that album. And some bands leave out the samples before songs live. I forget who it was, but it was some big intro, and they left it out. I wasn't happy.
"Get a boss loop station, you poor fuck!"

Behemoth usually have the intro speech for "Antichristian Phenomenon" when they play it live, but when I saw them in Feb. they didn't have any(they had to set everything up themselves too, so they had little crew support).

Foreign metal bands usually have a hard time in the U.S. since they don't have any roadies and don't really know the sound techs they'll be working with. Of course the more prestigious bands get people to set their shit up, Kreator had all of their stuff set when I saw them, but otherwise the bands are on their own... which is sad... I wish Behemoth had a more exciting intro than just walking around and checking cables and shit.
