Dimarzio PAF Pro vs. SD Jazz.
I'm getting a new set of passives for my alder Jackson, but I want to know which one of these two neck pickups is the best choice for me. I'm getting a X2N at the bridge btw.
The kind of tone I need is hard to describe... I play a lot of death metal, some of the tones I like are Suffo, Decrepit Birth, Vital Remains, early Exhumed, and Morbid Angel. Now I know I'm not going to get all the crunch from the neck pickup, but I'm really interested in the type of dark lead sound from like the newer Morbid Angel(think Gateways and Formulas-era), leads like newer Behemoth, etc. But I'm also a huge fan of Metal Church, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, and especially Megadeth and Marty Friedman, I just love those sparkly bright 80's solos. I hate twangish sounds in a clean channel, I'm looking for something crystal clear and bright. As you can see I'm looking for something all around but having main focus on the bands I mentioned. I want every note to ring out clearly and I want to avoid as much noise as possible.
I have a pretty good idea of what the SD is like, but I'm not too sure on the PAF Pro. Which is the best of the two for my tastes? And which would sound better in an alder guitar? I've heard that the SD sounds very thin in alder...
I'm not sure on this, but I think the Jazz has less output than the PAF Pro, thus the X2N would simply overpower it. Is this true?

What's wrong, nobody wants to respond? Now that I've narrowed it down to two extremely good passives that receive an unbelievable amount of praise here, nobody wants to say anything? I guess it's because noone can say "Fuck EMG's, get Dimarzios" now...
I would seriously appreciate any advice.
A friend raves about the Air Norton, how is it like compared to the PAF Pro?

replacing my Neck pickup... have x2n in bridge
hey soeru, im in the same dilemma, im grabbing a ENGL Fireball 60 watt head soon, but in the way of that droned out fucking brutal distrotion that morbid angel can pull off, im going for it also
i have an ibanez rg 1570 prestige with basswood body, and x2n in bridge, im looking at throwing the Dimarzio Breed Neck DP165 in my guitar, it just sounds perfect. I was looking at the PAF Pro for a while, but the Breed has grabbed my attention. I've heard it sounds absolutely gorgeous when distorted.
I'd stay away from the air norton pickup. It says "The patented Air Norton™ magnetic structure reduces string-pull, so sustain is improved; and pick attack and dynamics are tremendously controllable and expressive."
I dont know if im wrong or what, but to me i'm more concerned about how a neck pickup can reproduce my tone than control and express it.
For the Single coil position on my guitar, i've ordered a DiMarzio Blue velvet Dp170...

I'll take a look into that pickup, thanks. The "control" thing with the Air Norton I think has to do with how hard you pick and shit. Might be useful for those dreamy solos in Morbid Angel's FFtF and Gateways albums, right?
