Floyd Rose essential for Death Metal?
Do you guys beleive a Floyd Rose is essential for death metal? I see alot of people preaching this yet I bearly ever see it used (except for dweeedly solo parts). Also it does slightly make the tone thinner.

try one out...see if you like it...who gives a shit what the norm is...I recently got a floyd rose and I love it because i don't have to worry about breaking the tuning nearly as much as i do if i was playing on my other floating bridge.

Oh I have one on my RGT42, I was just contemplating my next guitar being string through. So far I use it sparingly, the bastard keeps going out of tune (obviously I need to get it set up professionally but I just havent had the time).
However, so far I have not had much use for it. Just wondering what your guys experiences concerning this.

They are cool to have, but definately not essential. They are bastards if you are changing your tunings often.
I wouldnt be without one, but i dont use it all that often in my metal playing.

I don't believe they're essential at all. I believe it could be proven as factual that they are not essential, at all.

If you like wacky Vader and Morbid Angel-style shredding, it helps a lot.

a floyd rose is like a wah wah pedal, it makes your solos sound way better without much effort.

Nowhere near essential. Recommended so your tuning doesn't drop in the middle of a show. I've never had my guitar go more than a few cents out of tune after heavy shreading and shit. I seem to get more string life out of my strings with it, but maybe thats just a coincidence.

trems take a little more experience and practice to get sounding good in solos IMO. n00bs can just press the wah in and out, and start moving it sync'd up with there playing and it'll sound good.

Agreed, you hear someone on a tremolo, and you can tell if they're good or not, if not used well it sounds shite

They can be usefull for solos and for keeping the guitar from getting out of tune, but changing strings or tuning is a pain in the butt

I've never tried floyd rose guitars, but there doesn't seem to be an essential metal guitar, find a guitar you like to play and then set it a good tuning and learn how to play metal.

He was just talking about bridges
I like them just because tremelo'd bends sound so much cooler.

No, you can play Death metal with any bridge. Not sure about the tone part though.

Floyd Rose is simply a preference. I prefer to have a floating tremelo in case I feel like throwing in a couple wahmmy contortions whilst playing guitar. However, I rehearse with a LTD viper 400fm, and feel it to be quite adequate for the job I do. I play black/death with some power influences.
Dude, it's all preference man.

Yeah, but its well worth it. I don't complain because it stays in tune.
And yeah, FS is right. Its preference on everything. Try it before you buy it, because what someone else might not like might be your thing.

I despise the god damn Trem bar. I was playing with a friends PRS guitar with a floyd rose. I admit, the low action was giving me a boner. But that bar was hellish. I took it off and used my palm to push the bridge in and out rapidly when I was shredding, but other than that I hardly fooled with it.

OK, it has been said many times now that a trem is not needed to play metal music on a guitar. It can be done with a Floyd trem or not. It really is about what the person likes. If you like trems then by all means use them. They are great bridges... or not.
One thing to think about though,
Kahler. Great trem and non-trem bridges.

Well. . . You don't have to have a floyd rose though they are cool but a headache. . . I just go the easy way, Digitech Whammy pedal set to Dive Bomb. . . almost the same effect. . . sounds great as long as you calibrate the pedal right.

thats just your crappy playing habits. not the trems fault. My OFR certaintly never goes in and out when I'm shredding.

Yeah if you know how to do it, it shouldn't be much harder than setting up a regular guitar.

Floyds are just exrta, you dont need them for anything besides trem tricks... look at Cryptopsy, Alex Auburn has one but ive only seen/heard him use it twice... EVER...
and about the "trem/wah makes solos better" thing, no they dont, them make noise, noise you can control, people who control noise make good solos...

Floyd's are only usefull here and there. Theres definitly more cons than pros. I'd say if you have multiple guitars, than one with a floyd is cool to have (a good real floyd that is), but if you only have one guitar and change tunings often to jam your favorite shit, youll rue the day you bought it.

My floys is fine for tremelo, and tremming bends ect. But i dont dare practise dive-bombs or any of that cool tremelo shit, otherwise im outta tune real good.
Though its a lisenced floyd, and old.

I think, it's an affair of your taste. I also playing DM, my guitar has floyd rose and I use this enoghly often. But there are some problems with strings changing and tunning - this is simply torture for me!

Yeah I use a floyd as well on my main guitar.
Yeah, once you work enough with a floyd, you get used to it and are able to set it up pretty quickly and easily. Not nearly as fast as a tunomatic, but not too bad.
