I was planning on purchasing the Randall RG200SCG2 with the R412CXM cab. Is this a good puchase? I'm in a heavy metal band and i need this amp to have a good crunchy rythmn and capable of attaining wailing solos that arent bogged down by too much low end. Can this amp do it or should i look for something else?

I am guessing this is that half stack combo that is like 700 bucks right? If so then I was looking at the same one and heard that it is actually a really nice sounding amp for the price. I looked into some Line 6 amps for about 800-900 bucks and I still hear this Randall amp is better. I would like to hear some more oppinions and info on it as well before I purchase it... Well that's if me and you are talking about the same amp here.

Hey ive got a Randall RH200SC and it sounds awesome, they just need repaired all the time, or at least mine does. thats where mine is right now.

Dude that is a pretty good price i guess, but not as cheap as im getting it. The $900 includes the R412CXM cab along with the head. So once you calculate in the tax it's about $422 for the head and $422 for the cab. And i know for a fact the cab isn't the cheapo randall cab its about one or two steps up. But my real question is if it actually sounds good and is worth my time? Also i got an ibanez will it sound good with that?

It should sound good. Take some effort to have a cooling fan installed in your Randall, or at least position a fan directly behind the Randall while playing it for longer hours.

About the repairing thing, I think mine needs repairing cause its starting to make all sorts of wierd noises when I turn it up to drum jam level. I also have the RG100SC halfstack and run a BBE through it. When ever the drummer hit the kick the amp made wierd feedback type noises. Maybe it was the pickups picking up the kick... shit if i know. All i know is that the amp was freakin on the Gain 2 Channel and would stop squeeking and getting feedback.

They don't put efficient cooling systems in those things. Next time it craps out on you again, feel the back of the preamp --- it'll be piping hot.

I've worked with a Randall before, I had to find a small fan, and I used an old 1/4" inch cable to tie the thing around --- and problem solved.

Thanks for your help. I got the amp. So far I really like it, it sounds quite good in my opinion. You just got to tweak with it for a while to get the sound you want. Also I recommend unscrewing the back panel so it doesn't over-heat, just four screws, really easy. The amp does seem to have a tiny problem though, you cant turn the gain up all the way on gain 2. If you do it unleashes a disgusting hi pitched scream that doesn't go away even if you turn your active electronics all the way down. But thats not a problem for me. The gain at 3/4 is more then enough to get an amazing tone for even the most devastating death metal. The bottom line is Randall Amps kick ass and this one definitly is no exception.

Okay, I bought the RH200G2 series or something(whatever the stupid solid state half stack is called) but now that I bought it I would probably go the extra 200 dollars and buy into an Ashdown 60 watt tube amp. . . . or rather I'd have my ex-girlfriend that would buy anything for me because she's rich go the extra mile and buy it for me. . . .muahahahaha.

I think I read somewhere in a Randall amp manual that it is not suggested that the high gain channel have the gain knob turned above more then the 3/4 mark. It sounds about the same pass the half way mark on mine. I even dimed the gain and I didn't notice to much of a difference, but more is not always better. If it sounds kickass at 3/4 or half way then use that.

I guess what I'm really saying is, just because you have more gain does not mean it is usable gain, and more so if you got high output pickups. Randall amps are gain monsters anyway.

Also, like John said, don't let them get too hot. A added fan might be more then enough to help keep it cool. SS amps don't handle getting really hot very well and they can do it fast the harder you push them. In fact heat drastically changes the operating parameters of semi-conductor diodes and transistors and that can cause the amp to poop out and fuck your whole sound up. Heat causes semi-conductors to conduct better and that means that they pass more current and that makes more heat and then they conduct even better... and you know can deduct what will happen next
