x2n in American Tilia? or emg 81?

I couldn't find anything in the archives on American Tilia for bodywood. Is it a good tonewood? Right now I have a SD TB-4 in the bridge but want something more tight sounding. I have narrowed it down to the x2n and 81. I actually bought an 81 but haven't installed it yet because I would have to drill holes through the guitar to fit the battery wires and connector wire through. I don't really want to do that because if it is a good tonewood it would change the resonance. I will probably exchange the 81 for an x2n when i get done with work today but I would like to know what you guys think. Is an 81 worth making swiss cheese out of Tilia?

Never heard of that wood before. I'm was kind of in the same situation you are, except my axe is alder, and the X2N is noisy unless you use a noise reducer, so you'll be much safer with an 81. Then again, it really depends what tone your after, both are good choices but since I don't know crap about that wood I would just go with the EMG.

I don't mind noisy since i use a gate. The tone I am looking for is real tight like suffo's tone. Very crisp. I just don't want to drill my guitar apart. I spent too much to mod it like that if I don't know it is for sure worth it.

Basswood is far from crap..

Vai and Satch seem to get amazing tones from their Basswood bodied bolt on neck guitars.

Idiots.

So does Petrucci, but aside from their signature models you don't see basswood in any guitars other than entry-level ones.

Just like any other wood, there must be varying levels of qualities to them.

Theres more to wood than just "what kind" it is. The way it is collected, constructed, treated, and cut all effect the tone of the wood.

Dont forget Vai and Satch have million dollar studios with enough rack gear to fill up your house. Their tone is NOT comming from thier guitars. Its comming from the hundreds signal processors in the studio, and cranked tube amps live, plus any signal processors they use live. When you ahve that kind of equiment, body wood is one of the least important tonal variables

John and Apex - exactly. You can get decent quality basswood that resembles decent alder, or you can get shitty basswood with green mineral stains everywhere that will sap the tone and become very weak.

Almost the whole Ibanez RG Prestige series is made from basswood, so Is JEM's and JS's as BLS stated. Basswood isnt crap.

I've heard Satch play strait through a JSX and it sounded fine.

But yes, their recorded tones are very processed.

Apparently, American Tilia is a fancy cut of basswood or something And it did come in my G&L which is a higher end guitar, not really for metal, but higher end regardless. Although maybe it only cost a lot because of all the mods I had done to it? But, regardless of how fancy it might be I can't really take the chance of the x2n sounding like crap because of the wood. Which leads me to install the 81 in this guitar, and I'll purchase the x2n when I get my mahogany built Razorback Rust Dime Tribute, Fuck yeah!! Goddamnit, when will that bitch be done? It has been like 6 months already!!

:O Basswood NECK? havent heard of that.

My old PRS Standard 22 was basswood. Chipped easily, but overall it was a good tonewood that made my freakin' crate amp sound good.

Holy shit. Are you sure? That's a pretty weak wood to use for a neck.. Does it have graphite rods or something?

poplar body and basswood neck.

two woods occasionally bashed for being "cheap" and "shitty". yet ken parker doesnt fuck around. this guitar is amazing.
