Alright, I beleive its just me and NZ Black Metal Drumm attempting drums for the song. It was already agreed upon that no drum machines are allowed, if your wondering. We have 12 days from now to submitt then another week for voting.
this thread will just be open fo discussion on the process...

On a more serious note:
When I make drum beats, I find that the easiest way is to start with the base of what you will be doing and work your way up.
So start with something easy like a 4x4 kick over the top of it, then add some base snare and cymbol, then adjust the kicks (maybe double kick, or whatever) then adjust the snare and cymbols to fit in with that.

yeah 2 versions, one with click and one without would be good.
and another thing, due to the complexity of recording drums, I am actually thinking a little longer to record the drum tracks would be a better idea, say 3 weeks to record, or something, cause drum tracks are a pain to get good, or at least get a good sound on.
what do y'all think?

if you have a decent recording program, you should be able to put a click track in and take it out using a feature on the program.
if not, which means your probably using windows sound recorder or somthing similar. make a click track seperately, then get a really good pair of headphones, and record it whilst listening to the click track. but you need to have a pair that are big and cover your ears all the way round with foam padding, so the click won't bleed.
actually, you may want to let it bleed for the first 4 clicks, then wait another four clicks before starting, so that you can line it up in a decent program.

yea, i guess i was thinking everyone has it the way my drummer friend does. 4 SM-57's Dynamic mics, 1 Beta-52 kick mic, 2 KSM Condensor Mics, a PA system, and a 16 track recorder. I guess if all you have is a comp then, i could understand why it would take so long.
On a side note its easier to move the computer to the drums if thats what you have to do haha. |

I have all the equip, the problem is, it isn't all in the same place, and most of it ISN'T near the PC that me and my band has that has all the Musicy progs on. and they are at opposite ends of auckland (Auckland=biggest city in NZ sooo....)
add to that drum recording is kinda hard, especially when it is JUST to a riff.
but I think 3 weeks for drums is resonable,

no I hate drum machines cause they have no feel, and almost always sound shit, like mortician for example.
and plus the fills suck ass on them, that is WHEN they do fills.
I am just saying that recording drums onto PC is a LOT more difficult than for guitar, Bass and Vocals.
all of them can plug a mic, or their guitar straight into a PC and go, us drummers need (for a good sound) a LOT of drum mics, a mixer and THEN we can plug into a PC, but then we have to play with the levels etc, otherwise it sound dog shit!

a pair of wooden 7A's my record was 2 weeks.

Hah. You gotta wonder how much profit those companies make off something like an average crash cymbal... yeah, there'd likely be a fair bit of labour involved, but some of the prices are ridiculous.

You can pretty much say that about everything, thats like if you get a discount for something they can cut 20% off like its nothing. Its because its marked up like crazy.

no luck here, the mixer we used when we last attempted drum recordings dies, we are getting a new one, but that isn't for a month or so, so I guess the drum machines will win, but I will be entering a drum machine entry, it WILL be brutal!

my computer ate itself, crashed, and i lost all my recording software, i know people who have so i gotta load in whatever they have, cubase or protools or something, but i forseeably cant do this in the near future.
oldman, that track rules, im suprised at how good it is since you sincronized to a recorded guitar track. much props
