Between The Buried And Me
After seeing some tabs posted up I downloaded Mordecai. It started off sounding extremely similar to Cephalic Carnage, and I was quite impressed, but about 2 minutes into it, the song became distinctly emo.
Obviously I was fucking baffled by this, with my view of them being reduced to a bunch of angsty teens with dyed black frullets, lip-rings, 3/4 pants and Chuck Taylors.
Are they trying to drag metalheads into the Hardcore scene or is this just a fucking joke?
What's your opinion on them?

Well my respect for you just went down. So it was brutal than it got really melodic, that's one thing I like about them. They're definately not emo just because he started singing with clean vocals at the end. I'm glad you can attempt to break a band into a stereotype, but they don't look emo at all either.

Yep,don't judge them by one song Seve420,they are a very complex band.I fucking love "The Silent Circus",one of my favorite albums, and I think their as technical as most death metal bands.Seve420 download:

I have friends that are into emo and they said that the way he sings it is done in a distinctly emo way. I don't care if they breakout into clean vocals and shit such as Opeth but I just wasn't expecting it.
And how the fuck can't I make any judgements after hearing them for the first time? I've now heard Camilla Rhodes and now had a good look at their tabs how technical they are. I'm more intrigued than anything else.
As far as their appearance goes, they look more Hardcore than anything. This isn't exactly what a typical metalhead looks like and the crowd doesn't look like the biggest metallers either. I'm not saying that they need to have long hair and wear Cryptopsy t-shirts for me to like them (apart from the band t-shirts, I probably look more like a skater than a metalhead) but it's just confusing and seems like they're drawing more of Hardcore following.
I'll definitely listen to more songs and I certainly can so my self playing their shit on guitar.

Its because they're a metalcore band
And as for all of you saying they're not emo at all: listen to Shevanel Take 2...thats as emo as it gets.
I still like them a lot though.
EDIT: I actually like the clean part of Mordecai more than the heavy part. Same goes with many of the songs on The Silent Circus (the only CD I have/have heard)

ive been a fan of their music for a good 2 years now. i have seen them live and they were pretty decent.. very tight, but no one moved around much (except for tommy, the vocalist..). their stuff seems more technical than it actually is. i can play the solo to aspirations, almost all of mordecai, more of myself to kill, the need for repetition, etc, etc. and im really not all that great.
their new album, Alaska, is coming out fairly soon. from footage of recent live shows, i can tell you that the new stuff is going to be a lot more technical than anything they've ever done. paul (lead guitars) is much more skilled at guitar now, the new guitarist (rusty) has some chops as well, and their new drummer (blake) is very very good from what ive heard, probably just as good, if not better, than Mark Castillo and Will Goodyear, who came before him. the stuff they are writing has a very experimental sound.
anyways.. great band, and nice dudes too.

the lead player is a sweeping MANIAC. I saw them live about a week ago, theres a ridiculous sweeping run on one of the new songs. Almost made me wet myself with joy.
