Band's EQ

I didn't know where else to put this, so I figured that since it's gear related...

As a bassist, I have some trouble getting heard without overpowering everyone else. I'm currently looking for an EQ setting that will allow me to better fulfill a suportive role, instead of being the only thing that's heard. So what do you think would be a good EQ for everyone to be heard? One of my guitarists cuts mids and boosts the bass and treble. The other doesn't have a specific EQ because he doesn't use his amp live, but he generally has a lot of mids.

I cut the mids on the bass' EQ on band practices, and it usually works fine to allow everyone to be heard, while keeping the bass on the top with every instrument. I tried that live today, and it didn't work very well though.

Crank the mids all the way to 11 and see if that makes a difference.

No. You need a bit of mids, but remeber, the bass frequencies are for the bassist. Ask the guitar guys if they can lay off a little of their bass. Sure, a guitar sounds very "br00tal" with losts of bass, but if the guy who scoops his mids add a little more mids there should be no problem.

Every instrument has its own frequencies: Baseguitar = bass, guitar = mids, vocals = high (or mid if singer growls ), drummer bassdrum = bass, cymbals = mid and high.

Just remember, so long everyone gets a little room on their own frequency, there is no need for volume duels.

when playing guitar by yourself you'll like it to be really low end heavy, but when the band kicks in the mids are your friend. so tell the guitarists to add a bit of midrange and cuts some lows.

i generally like the bass to be low and high heavy with only a bit of midrange.
