Buckethead
i searched and i never found any threads about this guy. it's a shame because i checked him out yesterday and hes a fucking nut on guitar, he does alot of cool melodies and incorperates alot of heavy shredding and solos. I love the overall wierdness too. Anyone else like him but me?

Haven't heard him. I hear he is nuts, but his playing is what should be remembered about him, not the fact that he wears a bucket on his head as a gimmick.

It's hard as fuck to find any of his shit, but nightrains him jamming with another band or something.

I heard rumors that buckethead is actually Paul Gilbert.
Kind of makes sense because he's badass at guitar and Paul Gilbert is wierd enough to dress like that.

It is a FACT that paul gilbert is not buckethead. Paul Gilbert TAUGHT Buckethead, and his real name is Brian Carroll.
Check him out: http://www.geocities.com/stringcheese242001/
His long pinky on the guitar, isnt his real pinky by the way.
Edit: Lol i was making this just as the guy above posted his. wasnt fast enough.

What I meant was that he just stands there and does his little robotic moves and doesn't even look at his guitar. Yet he still puts emotion into his playing.

Gasp! Well this is quite the surprise. I always thought that buckethead was just a mediocre guitarist simply because well...he had a bucket on his head and theres the fact that all that I've heard from him were G'n'R covers. This was quite the pleasant surprise. I still say he should loose the bucket though. He's far from needing any sort of gimmicks with chops like that.

No, its just a cheesy gimmick, and i hate when artists do stuff like this. I mean i know its just to put on a show, but some artists goa bit too rediculous. I mean the stuff posted here is the only stuff anyone knows on the guy, and if you go to his site, he actually made up a fake backstory to make him look more eerie and hard. I mean thats rediculous. When he plays on his solo albums, you can really see his Paul Gilbert influence, not only in his licks, but he has feel on his albums that like 2 other NEW shredders have today(i just pulled a number out of my ass, he might be the only one to me). There is no way that the robotic-type show he puts on during live performances is the way he plays on his albums. Not saying he has no feel live, but he definately has worlds more feel on his studio stuff.
PS - Does anyone know who that other guitarist is in Guns' n Roses? On one of those clips earlier in the page, he plays at the end of the Buckethead thing, and its not the first time i hear him play. He seriously sucks so bad, and i wonder if he does it on purpose to make Buckethead look better, not that he needs it. I am sure that guy is good in his own right to get a job like this, but everything i have heard, he blows, big time.

I don't think he is doing the skit to be errie or hard...just for fun. Kind of like how GWAR dresses up in suits and calls themselves aliens from another planet.
The other thing about the 2nd guitarist in GnR...I saw a better video of the chicken pickin' on stage thing. It was so funny to listen to the other guitarist try to upstage buckethead...hahaha...lamer

I read somewhere that he said that he used to live with chickens and even plays and practices in a fucking chicken coop. However, he left GnR frustrated with their inability to put out an album or get a show together.
When I read that I cracked up becasue how fucking .ame must your band be if a guy who practices in a chicken coop left it? I knew nothing about the guy, I just read that stuff about him for the first time and thought he was just some random fucking nutcase who could play a guitar.
I think that since he is already famous for wearing that fucking bucket on his head he might as well try to get KFC to hire him as a spokesperson or something. That could be a pretty sweet little endorsement. That way, when PETA sues KFC, they'll be able to get out on an insanity plea.

No i love his studio stuff, and i think hes seems like a cool guy, but all this stuff about him making up a FAKE backround just to seem hard is getting rediculous. I am sure he worked hard when coming up, but the story on his site makes it seem like he had a horrible life growing up, and thats how he turned the way he did, which is just rediculous. Hes trying to get more people to like him by saying he would go to a drive-in movie and play guitar to it all the time, then go burn down his chicken coop. Its fine to have a cool costume like he has, but making up a stupid backstory and changing the way he acts is going way to far. I would find it much much more inspirational to hear what he REALLY did growing up to achieve the level of guitar he got to. Steve Vai's life story is more or less why i decided to get serious about guitar.

lol shut up mad crewatewafdfag
its a personality, a persona. its quite entertaining and everbit as creative as his actual music. some bands and artists have an aura around them and some are just regular guys. he chose to make up a story, so stop bitching about it and just enjoy it!

Well ill stop bitchin, but i still dont like it. i think its past having fun, its just stupid to me, but i still LOVE his solo stuff, so ill just let the guy do what he wants and be quiet. I am talking like a young guitarist, and not an adult, and im sure if i was in the same situation i would do whatever it would takes to make more money , as stupid as that may sound now, but later in life i see my mindset changing.

If someone Dressed up in a KFC bucket, a white mask and a raincoat to look hard they would probably get the shit kicked out them lol. I know you mean hes doing it for fun, But it would be funny if they did do it to look badass.
By the way, whats your favorite song by him? Mines For Mom.

that whole album man...wondering, big sur moon, for mom.... i heard her wrote the colma album for his mother while she was in the hospital. nice guy, eh?
and i bet more than anything buckethead made up his story to either hide his identity (ive heard that hes actually a famous shredder in disguise, to gain more attention/credibility) or just to amuse himself.

I saw him playing with guns'n'roses a couple of years back at Leeds. Didn't care too much for waching guns'n'roses after Buckethead had his own stage time, probably cos my cock went hard whilst he had his own stagetime.

I hate virtuoso shredders such as gilbert and the like, but Buckethead is just so much more interesting than any of them, and if it is a famous shredder in disguise then he should stick to writing his buckethead stuff.

The thing is that buckethead doesn't just shred all the time...he can when he wants but not all of his songs are shredding from 0:00-X:XX. Maybe other shreds don't shred all the time too...but i don't know I never listen to them because they get boring fast.

People say this about Gilbert, but hes one of my favorite guitarists. He has alot of feel, and if you hear him talk, he knows its not all about speed. Also he is from around where i live, and my teacher saw him when he was 15 at a concert, and at the gallery about a quarter mile from my house a guitar teacher named nick was taught by paul gilbert, and i am not sure if he still keeps in touch, but i know he talked to him alot after he got out of GIT and what not. I just thought all that might be cool to you, but basically i am saying, he is a great musician as well as a great guy, so i hear.

i think this guys music sucks, altho he is skilled. his creativity factor is all skill over substance. accompanying music is always basic backbeat shit thats utterly forgettable, his music sounds like a more extreme musak. the guy plays elevator music. i dont even care about the bucket and mask, that shit costs like 8.99 at a joke shop. whereas gwar went to art school to learn all that costume shit and did everything themselves, which takes a vast amount of time, resource and skill

yes. theres lots of that whacky crap that you described, under albums like "bucketheadland" and other crap like that. thats just shredding irritation..although he has a couple good songs in that vein they are not anywhere near as good as his album "colma". colma is recorded with a guy name "brain" in drums who is very VERY simple but makes very good beats, and buckethead handles all the guitars and bass guitars. its as great album man, really worth looking into

I think it's all explained in The Ballad of Buckethead (with Les Claypool). Apparently he was brought into the world by chickens.
