The mars volta....anyone? anyone?
just curious if anyone here listens to the mars volta. I know it's not your typical metal but I haven't been able to peel myself away from this awesome band!

I liked some songs, but I don't like them enough to warrant any serious attention. A cool band that reminded me to MV was Dredg. You might want to check that out.

I liked At The Drive-In back in the day (Cedric and Omar's previous band). I was only listeing to Relationship Of Command the other week - good stuff and very energetic. I've only ever heard one Mars Volta song - it was OK, but not as good as ATDI.

I have Relationship Of Command and it's a good album. I think One armed scissor is my favorite song. As for The Mars Volta, I only have Deloused in the Comatorium and it's decent.

I love the first four or five songs off RoC along with Enfilade (or whatever it's called). The others are great too, but these 6 stand out the most to me. Oh, Iggy Pop is so cool on Manuscript Replica!

MV is pretty good...a lot of talent in that band but I liked the vocalist a lot better with ATDI. If you want something similar to MV check out Mr. Bungle. Way better, more talent, more experimentation...

I have Mr. Bungle's "California" on my computer if you want me to send it to you through AIM.

I like "El Cielo" better, personally.
El Cielo > De-loused > Catch Without Arms > Frances
I don't think we'll have MANY arguements with that. The new MV CD isn't bad, but its barely good enough to be called great. Besides. Those three albums kick its ass.

That suprises the shit out of me. Another metal head who can be found listening to ATDI. I don't suppose you like Hawthorne Heights?
No but seriously, I have one of their albums on my computer. i'm embarrassed. Then I realize, that I don't care what people with nothing better to do than sit online and post in a forum think about me.

At The Drive-In and Mars Volta are actually my favourite non-metal bands.

I wouldn't bother with Frances The Mute. It's ok but filled with fuck loads of filler, like in the middle of Cicatriz ESP.

Nope. I don't see why it should surprise anybody - I listen to a broad range of music and that fact has been made known in the forum for ages. It just happens that my favourite and most listened to genre is death metal.

Hell, I didn't mind At The Drive In either, well back in my younger days anyway. Saw em live once, but they wouldn't stop bitching about the crowd getting too rowdy, and threatened to leave the stage a couple of times. I think this Mars Volta is a bit of a fad though.... Still, better than a lot of the mindless shit out there.

Yeah, I heard that ATDI were totally against any form of moshing and insisted that the crowd stand still, nodding their heads for the duration of the show.

Yeah, I don't mosh - I fret/drum watch - but it's good for the show when other people do it.

Yeah, it didn't go down too well. I remember loads of people complaining. Two days before, they played a 15 minute set in Sydney because of the crowd (That was the same day some chick got crushed to death when Limp Bizkit played - ATDI played before LB though).

yeah, i really cant be getting into any moshing, but i love it when other people do. i like to see good moshing but it doesnt happen much around here, we just get the circle dancers and all that gayness. it just raises the intensity of a crowd if everyones really really into it

I know I like em cuz they don't sound like much else I've heard before. I'm a sucker for originality.

I have no problems doing both. I'll get in a mosh for a bit, then just stop for a little while to check out what the cunts are doing on their kits/guitars.

The Mars Volta is an amazing band. De-loused is one of my favorite albums, no contest. I'm not huge on the new album, but it's still good stuff. I saw them live awhile back and they managed to play a two and a half hour show playing only 4 songs. They'd start a song, improv 30 minutes, then end it.

Fucking hipocrites. A friend of mine almost got hit in the head with a mic stand that Cedric threw into the air and Omar spends most of his time jumping off his amp but no one in the crowd can do anything of the like. Do they find it disrespectful that everyone's simply standing and listening to their music? What I also hate is the political element, which is somehow within the seemingly senseless lyrics.

ATDI is good stuff...better than any side projects that came about from it anyways. thier old stuff is actually less intence then thier later albums, which is kinda opposite from most bands.

god I'm sheltered....I've heard of ATDI but I've never really listened to them.
on moshing? I went to anti-flag concert a few months ago back in germany and my bf didn't want me in the pit cuz he thought I'd get hurt and somehow I managed to get in there and slammed about for a bit, pushed my way up front and did some crowdsurfing. Now considering I'm all of 5 feet and three inches tall, this wasn't the smartest thing to do cuz as soon as I got on me feets to start moshing again, some sumo sized dude decided to try crowdsurfing and he kinda crushed me when he landed...yeah that sucked.
