Cabinet occassionally goes "WHOOMP"
It's a Krank Revolution Series 1 4x12.
I have a show tonight opening for Most Precious Blood, On Broken Wings, and Evergreen Terrace. Our lead guitar player is being a bit of a weiner and demanding that he get two cabs, which means i have to bring my own cab out of my basement and use it.
But every 5 - 10 minutes, it goes WHOOMP, kinda like the sound a half-stack makes when you turn the power off.
I'm using a Peavey JSX 120 Watt.
I've heard people talking shit about Krank amps, but that's all fine and good. I can't give you any details about the quality of my cab except for the sound. It rolls off the high end like a Marshall 1960, but when you run a 7-string through it the low end is actually tight, not floppy like the 1960.
Ok, I'll be Mila Jovovich, you be Bruce Willis. "please help"
"multi pass"

What are generic speaker farts? It happens even on Standby, not on certain frequencies. Is it problematic? I have soundcheck in 2 hours, and I'm going to be mic'd. I'd rather not be clipping out the sound guy's system every 10 minutes.
Yeah; I can live with reduce construction quality for the sound though

Just get the other cab from the lead player man. And if his ego plays up, kick him in the head. I'm sure he would understand.

Your lead guitar player is a real bitch. Why does he need two cabs if all you get is one shit cab
Anyway, I can't understand for the life of me why your stack is making whoomp sounds even while in standby. There is no output to the cabs while in standby mode if I am correct so there sould be absolutely no sound coming from the cab, Unless...
I might know what is wrong but it is a long stot.
By strait Crate cab makes a whoomp sound on certain bassy notes. Like xDx said, cheap speaker farts. I see it happen when I use my 7 string or if the bass gets jacked around by my 2 year old. It only happens on the strait cab though I think it's the little extra space in the cab that resonates bass frequencies easier then the angled cab.
Now here is the CRAZY part! I disconnected the cab and it still made whoomp sounds The vibrations from the other cab was enough to cause the disconnected cab to still go whoomp. I put the cab in the next room and guess what? It still went whoomp I got the thing on the other side of the house now but I swear I can still hear it go whoomp sometimes.
So my final question. Is there anyone else or a radio playing while the amp is on standby and it makes that whoomp sound? If so then the problem is indeed cheap speakers.
Kick your lead guitar player in the nads for me.

If your going to be mic'd at your gig there is absolutely no reason why your lead guitar player should have a problem lending you a cab for a show. Your cabs are basically your personal monitors if your being mic'd through a house PA system. Pretty childish if he wont give it up for the night to have a better overall show imo.

Absolutely. Is there a good reason for why he needed two cabs?

Not if he had two cabs but his sound would only be good for a small area near the cabs. You might be able to hear it in the back on the far side of the show but I don't think he would sound as clear and even as the rest of the band that used the PA. Unless the ass was just going to drowned everyone else out of the mix.

if you're going to be mic'd he wont need two cabs.... when you're mic'd you'll only want just enough stage volume to hear through the acoustic drums... and from there they mic everything and increase the overall volume and mix.
if your cab is fucked up and you ask him to let you use one of his and he says no... fuck him, he obviously doesnt care about how the rest of the band sounds, just how HE looks.
