"So the Story Always Goes"

To follow where my thoughts take me presently
Would hinder any chance of advancement.
The changes I'd not forseen and the duties
I'd taken for granted allowed some structure
And like-mindedness to coincide
That aren't present in everyday life.
The chaos created around me
That can't be turned off with a flick of a switch
Eats at every pore until the tension gets too much.
Every blink of an eye sounds like a giant's footstep.
Every chirp of a bird, shrill and ghastly.
The heat exhausts me
And water does me no favor either.
When summer rises it's heat is too much.
When winter comes there's no warmth to be found
Save I set my own self on fire.
Not an option.
Riddled with unending pursuits never finished
That are no one's fault but my own.
Dumping the whole deal before
It's even breathed half a breath.
So the story always goes.
