Okay guys, little to no time to use the search Function.
I have just reached my goal of Four thousand dollars to purchase a brand spanking new Amp and Guitar.
Thus, I will now beseech all of the Metal Tabs Community who take the time to read my post to advise me on purchases. I am looking for a guitar that has a good amount of Weight to it and looks unusual. Something with String through Neck and a Scalloped Heal. As for the amp, Im looking for something that has a super delicious clean sound. Distortion is not the issue. Looking for something that will give a nice smooth sound like Al Di Meola or Opeth during their Still Life Period.
Hopefully I will not have incurred the wrath of the Elitist Metal Tab Forum Nazi's and be sarcasmed or flamed into obscurity.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

For the guitar I would say get a Ran but the heels get chunky past the 19th fret. I guess that is to off set the rest of the neck that is the thinest I have ever seen on a guitar.
As for the amp I have no ideal but for a great warm clean tone it will need to be a tube amp. Say a Roland JC120.

delicious cleans eh?
old Fenders (Tweeds) and especially old Vox's have great cleans, ac30's are fucking expensive though... hard to tell, you'de need to find the guitar first, then try it on a shitload of amps.
well, as far as the guitar go, play everything you can get your hands on and find out which models you like best. if you can't find anything you like, get a custom Ran and combine the best features of all your favorite guitars, like Soul and I did
for 4000 bucks you can buy a LOT of cool guitars though, like really kickass lp customs... or '80's custom shop Jacksons/BC Riches, whatever you turns your clock!

Why not ask D if he can scallop the heel for you?? Im sure it wouldnt be a problem.
If i had 4k, i would definately go with ran (quality for money). I dont know shit about amps though, so i cant help you there.

From the Opeth site, for the Still Life album is says for the amps, they used:-
"Peavey 5150, Fender dual reverb, ENGL 100 Watt head, and more"
Im guessing it was the dual reverb that was used for the cleans

I'd say: buy a Ran and use whatever current guitar you have to play as many damned heads and cabs as you possibly can until you find one you like. You'll probably still have some cash left over, so if you want to blow the rest on fancy accessories go do that, but if you have a really shitty current guitar then purchase something a better until your Ran arrives.

$4k for a clean tone? unless youre a jazz snob youll get a nice clean tone from any decent guitar with single coil pus and 100w tube or SS amp.
hell, i got a nice clean tone with an EMG 89 --> jcm900 2100 --> 1960 cab
i tuned to C# and i got suffocations clean tone on the intro torn into enthrallment.
my jcm800 2203 sounds just as nice but louder.
same again with a shit guitar with X2N pu into a fender SS combo.

Get one of those double neck Jackson Vs that Dave Mustaine used to play back in the days, (I don't know if he still does).
A six string and a 12 string all in one package, probably weighs a fucking ton and a half, and talk aobut an unusual shape, shit, it, don't get much more unusual than that.
EDIT: If I had four grand to blow, I'd blow it all on coke and hookers. But that's just me.

pre'80's LP customs' are a good investment, like if you ever stop playing, hang it on a wall or whatever and give it to your kids. they can sell it for 10.000+ bucks in 2030.
I didn't know Opeth used Engl's. but hey, they do have great clean tones too. (though I think they used them mainly for distortion, haha)

Wow holy shit guys, thanks so much for all the responce.
I went to this small little dealer where I live and was playing around with a bunch of guitars and amps.
Im going with an ESP LTD Ax-250 and a Fender Cyber-Deluxe amp.
The dude just looked at me weird though when I asked about clean tone. Wonder why.
Thanks guys, your advice is incredibly valued and appreciated.

Get a real ESP if you want to get a ESP. ESP LTD are nice guitars if you are straped for cash but you got $4000. The real ESP will go up in value over time if you take good care of it.

lmao
The AX-350's are even on special now for like $534. Don't be fooled, it's not neck-though. It's 'set-through' which is like a set neck. They have a mahogany body, whereas the 250 has basswood.

Oh really?? The site said that the Ax-250 was set-neck. That blows.
Has anyone played the Parker guitars? I was fooling around with one and it was really nice feeling except for the weight. I need more meat to the Guitar.
Whats with this "Fucking Poser" stuff? I have 4k so I have to blow it all off?
I actually sent an Estimate in to Ran guitars. 900 bucks for everything I want? Insanity. I think I'll consider putting the order through.

900 bucks if you choose regular options, if you want to go all out, count on 1500-2000. including shipping and shit.
there's threads around, search for the parker fly, xdx has one.

You've 4k to spend on gear, then you'd better spend 4k on gear, damnit
Here's what I would do, if I were you, assuming you want a guitar -> head -> cabinet setup :
Spend 1,000-1,500$ on your guitar.
Spend 800-1,000$ on your cabinet.
Spend 2,000$ on your amp head.
If you have some money left over, then look at rack goodies like an ICP noise decimator, or BBE sonic maximizer, etc.
For guitars, look into USA models from ESP, Jackson, and the like, or import customs from Ran, etc.
For your cabinets/heads, have fun looking at all the big names ( Marshall, Mesa, Genz Benz, etc. ) and the "boutique" ones, as well ( Engl, Framus, Splawn, Diezel, etc. ).
With a rig like that ... if you end up sounding bad, then you should kill yourself 852304895734209568 times.

If i had $4,000 to spend on gear I would end up with over $10,000 worth of retail priced shit easy. Unless you have to have it custom made then do not pay full retail price. I understand if you can't find your dream guitar. I had mine custom made. It cost but it is worth it. Some things just have to be custom made

I think with that much money you could buy a guitar that you'll be more than happy with, and not a custom one.

In my case there was no pointed Jackson type flying V to be had that sported a Kahler trem; among other options. I looked... a very long time too. I had to get my dream custom made There is none like it in the world either.

amp - JCM2000 DSL...great clean tone...with that great marshall distortion just in case you get tired of playing clean...
guitar - an ESP F-series looks kinda unusual...and just replace the bridge bucker with a SD blues saraceno trembucker...
there you go...
perfect...
end of discussion

Al dimeola uses a KOCH Multi tone
Koch is a Dutch made Amp which is a great amp great clean , enough gain to rattle your balls.Theyre expensive probably like $1500 to 2k , But they are kick ass. I have 2 A twintone 50 watt combo and a powertone II Head and bottom.
As far as guitars . Id say u cant go wrong with a Gibson Les Paul especially with the new burstbuckers ,you d be styling .just my opinion
good luck
