Although I don't personally use them (and i'm in a Gore Metal band too LOL) since I mostly do Highs but can also already naturally get one of the lowest vocal sounds possible next to Gurge from Lord Gore without effects. LOL

My friend uses one sometimes. But he plays thrash/death. He uses it when it's a fill or something sorta like how Peter from Vader says something really low (ie. Wings :"Would you be the same if I shed my pair of wings?" or Whisper 'This is the greatest gift that we've receved from mother earth so let's play this game.") that sorta thing. I think it's ridiculous for that genre. It's good for Gore though.

It depends on what type of pitchsifted vocals. Like The County Medical Examiners bassit sorta just talks and it lowers it for him. Ghoul's bassit does a growl + pitchshifter and it sounds wicked. I would probably use them once in a while for this type of thing...otherwise it'll get boring like Cock And Ball Torture drain vocals....speaking of which I'd like to know what pitchshifter they use. I want my drummer to do some Blood Freak/Impetigo bubble type vocals but can't find any info on them. So yeah I need some info on them too.

Can I ask what exactly it does to a vocal? Does it just lower your natural tone? All I can think of as what it might be is like when Bowie did "Fame" and had that descresendo(sp.) in it.

i assume its just the same as a guitar pitch shifter, for guitar say u play a high D note, u can make the pitchshifter make an octave with it (or sumtin in between in some cases).

so for vocals, u could have ur own voice, and a higher and or lower voice with it.

not sure but i assume its like this (it is for guitar so)

Souli and k13m -- I think I'm getting it. You mean Alice in Chains sounding harmonies in the non-octave sense? Or is it more a single note sound that's mega high or low compared to the actual note?

It could be used both ways. You could have it take the whole voice and shift it into a whole new octive or use it along with your orginal voice. AIC I think used them to harmonize the vocals.
