Help bout pickups...
Hi.
Now i have some questions bout pickups. I've been thinking bout buying some EMG;s, but i've gotten more an more insecure bout that. Then i thought of buying some SD;s. Does anybody know a good combo? And i also want a neck pickup that sounds really like a neck pickup should do.

JS/Jazz always seems to be a good suggested passive pickup combo

Yeah i'm sure it is but does anybody know another pickup that's a little more nasty? I mean like sharper in the sound.

If you want some brutal gain output, Dimarzio X2n at the bridge and a PAF Pro at the neck are good too. I would get one of these 2 setups, but since I have an alder guitar I'm going with an EMG set.

Why not any emgs, most metal bands do use them and I also use one. Trust me, by personal experience, they sound incredible and with distortion thay are absolutely monsterous.

The SD Custom will have the extra agression you're looking for. It crunches really well. Go with the Jazz for the neck. Listen to sound clips posted on the SD forums.

Yeah well it's not the pickups, it's that a friend of mine is going to put them in for me(cos i don't know how to) and i don't really trust him. He's the type of guy that doesn't give a shit if he breaks my guitar or something. Has anybody got any instructions on how to put in emg pickups(yeah i know i'm an idiot)?

If you can, spend a few more dollars and have a professional install them. It was 20$ for mine.

if you're looking for that, then i highly suggest the evo pickups by dimarzio. theyre passive. i have them and they have a ton of output.

I've read everywhere that evo's are mostly a solo pickup and not really too great for rhythm. Is this true or do they sound alright when it comes to metal rhythm?

sound advice here.
ive got an x2n also in a cheap shit guitar, and i compared it to another i have with emg 81, and the x2n sounds a lot wilder, whereas the 81 is bland.

I wish I could get payed $20 for every set of pups I install I guess I'm no classified professional (yet), but I know how to make great military spec solder joints. I have been trained to do it nearly under water, in the dark, the ship sinking, while at the same time walking on water and breathing fire I got a so called "pro" to install a set of pups for me years ago and later ended up having to replace the pots because he was one of those people that thought, "The bigger the blob the better the job". All that really happens when you use more solder or apply more heat is add resistence and maybe ruin the pot.
Listen people! Installing pickups is easy! Pay no one!

Control the heat, let that solder flow!

I have another question: When i switch from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup, the sound just disappear and then i have to flip the pickup switch a couple of times before the sound comes back. Does anybody know what's wrong?

i dont think it would be bad wiring...doesnt sound like it...but it might be...sounds like its probably in your switch...if so...dont worry...theyre only a few bucks...and all you have to do is take the old one out...pay attention to the connections...and solder the new one in...

well i'm going to my local music store this week so i'll just bring my guitar and ask what's wrong with it. If it's the pickups i'll buy two SD;s(JB or custom 5 for the bridge and jazz for the neck).

It sounds like the switch. Just replace the switch.
