Changing Tremelo bridges...

Hey guys I found a Kahler I would like. I was wondering would it be possible to change the Edge Pro trem I got on my Ibanez and put a Kahler on it? I need to know all the pros and cons in doing this.

It is very possible to do this. Basically, you are just going to remove all of the old trem, add some wood to fill in the giant hole, do a small bit of routing in the newly filled hole, drill 4 screw holes, and put the Kahler in. You will have to do a some measuring to make sure the bridge will be in the right place before routing and drilling but Kahlers are very forgiving in this area because they are so adjustable.

Pro:
You are going to have far better tuning stablity.

Con:
It is going to be a bit of a pain to do this mod if you have never done this before and if you don't know what you are doing. I suggest finding someone to help you with installing and set up that is good with working on guitars.

Also there is a chance the Kahler may not cover all of the old routing so in order to make the paint look uniform it might need to be painted around the newly filled hole to match the guitar color.

I will see if I can find some instruction on how to do this mod for you

What Kahler are you thinking about using?

I'm not sure.Probably the 2315 Speicial from their website. www.kahlerusa.com The one Kerry King uses.

Man I don't know if I want to go through all this trouble...but it's probably worth it.

I think you will like it. It will seem like a lot of work but like I said, if you get someone that knows how a guitar is made they will have no problem installing a Kahler. It is actually much harder to install a Floyd. In your case you have to remove the old bridge and fill all the holes first. You got to make it like a bridge was never on the guitar. That will be the hardest part. A Kahler only needs one small route and four screw holes and it is done

Move to putting strings on it, set string spacing, tune it, set cam hight, tune it, set action, tune it, set intonation, tune it, then recheck everything and repeat if needed. This all takes less then an hour.

I'll give it to a guitar tech. I'm very busy. LOL Actually they have routing templates for the bridges on their site so that's a relief. I have a question could it handle being tunned to B standard? B,E,A,D,F#,B?

It's a Kahler bridge. It could handle playing in A# while being shoved up a rihno's ass with diarrhea.

You might have to replace the springs in the cam with heavy springs but that cost $10 and 5 minutes.

My buddy said replacing it with a Floyd Rose is cheaper. Is that true?
