Just wanted to learn some metal without tuning down...if anyone knows any bands it would be appretiated.

Dissection is one I believe.I'm sure you know Metallica,Megadeth and Slayer.
EDIT:well,earlier metallica and slayer were tuned to standard.

opeth play pretty much all their songs in standard, except a couple in drop D.
thats all i can think of right now. Most others i know use Eb or standard D.

not for the first three, just show no mercy and one song off haunting the chapel (agressive perfector) wich was written before haunting the chapel (they performed it in '83)

Yes, its Eb and everything since then with the exception of the covers (to my knowledge) have been in the same.
I think you have two options. Either tune down to a tuning you know you will use for not only your own writing, but for songs you want to play, and keep it there. or get a pedal that has a downtune or bend setting, which is what I do.
I have my Ibanez in E, but can tune it anywhere from E->B. I got bored, changed thes strings on my squier, and put it in C, I can put that bad ass little piece of shit in G if I wanted to. Although I swear to god, I played it in G for 5 minutes and ended up with a headache.
