London 0, Terrorist pricks 1
A few things.
1. This looks pretty bad. Official estimates of a handful dead will get rapidly larger.
2. Famous and powerful men look impotent and stupid when standing in a semi-circle.
3. Someone should give Tony Blair elocution lessons. The whole country turns to him for some kind of leadership, and he sounds like a mechanical doll with chronic constipation.
4. Mansley, are you alive?

Yeah - I was watching the atonishingly shit game of cricket to be interrupted by that news flash. Interesting to see how these tragedies unfold, really. From 1 bomb on a bus to 7 explosions throughout Central London. I would be utterly surprised if many people survived the bus explosions. Apparently one of the train carraiges was utterly decimated also, sad stuff.
Did you see Bush standing in that circle? Looked like he was trying to hold in one monster of a fart.

I heard about it on the radio on my way back home today, turned on the tv and saw a bus that was bombed, looked horrible...
fucking pigs...
our prime minister is about to do a press conference, I heard there's shit going on in Amsterdam with a terrorist alert, I saw a squadron of Apache helicopters pass about 5 minutes ago, I never see those things fly here dunno if they're raising the alert too... I'm going to check the tv for the press conference, Balkenende (our prime minster that looks like harry potter) will give his sympathy and stuff, looks like shit right now for London.
About Blair, I think he's actually doing a good job, it took Bush 3 days to visit NY and it took a while for his speech too, he looked scared as fuck whilst Blair looks solid. I think Blair is capable of leading a country especially when it's in rough sea's. Same goes for the English, they're at their best when the shit hits the fan.

when these kinda things happen people allways yell random numbers, there's only one way to find out how many people got hurt... just wait till everything settles down again, but I'm sure there will be way more.

Well at this point, you have to look at both sides, sure it IS fucking bad to see a placed bombed, hell if Toronto or Ottawa blew up, I would want to see everyone who was in charge of it get their ass handed to them, but lets look at Iraq, theres more then 7 bombs going off in a day killing a nice chunk of people. So you can't go on about: "Fucking sand N'ers... blowing up our homes, go back to your country!... blah, blah!"
But anyways, In my sick mind, I think it was the US who *did* this, think about it, all over the world people wanted to have this "free africa" dream, but SOME places didn't support the idea, and now they pull this to get the mass media in a state of fear and anger, just to get the idea of "free africa" out of their heads, so when this summit was over and africa is not "free" people wont be pissed. (I know that in times like this the LAST thing you should do is make up shit, but hey.)
Anyways, to you euro cats, your going to see your rights taken from you just to get on a fucking bus to cross town.

no way fearfrost, that's not how we solve things in Europe.. thats the American way. it's a totally different culture, just look at London in two weeks..
I don't think the US *did* this but I do agree there's a connection. and in Iraq people are bombing US troops because they invaded their country without a good reason, hell I can understand that even though it's horrible.
But these terrorist are bombing civilians in one of the world's well known cities, that's just a reason to be fucking pissed off if you ask me.

As an American, I would'nt say that our conservative adiministration ( i.e. Bush ) is'nt necessarily displeased with the incident. Every time a conservative is confronted with the military meandering in Iraq, they point to 9/11, and the "terroristic" threat ... now they have the sensation of the incident in London to exploit for the justification of their imprudent overseas activities. So even if U.S. personnel had no involvement in the incident, they probably view it as conveniant, if nothing else. Which is very sad that I have to say that.

Which is a very dangerous thing, to always think back to the events of 9/11. Its going to whip the populace of the country I live in into a similiar frenzy that accompanied 2001, albeit a smaller scale. Because of such things happening in other countries, it will make it that much easier to smooth over our populace when our government decides to annex yet more Middle Eastern countries for their petroleum reserves.
And Bush was there this morning over in the UK, commemorating the incident? That was pretty damned quick, considering how long it took him to get to NY ...

same goes for my favorite columnist, he was shot and after that stabbed multiple times, by a muslim extremist.. we allready had this kinda shit going on last year, only no real mass-bombings or shit like that. Pim Fortuyn the policitian beeing killed was absolutely the worst thing that could happen at that moment.
I don't know, it's resiliance or something that the British also have, they won't let themselves be limited in their life because of some fucking extremist dickheads. Though I'm sure people in London are scared shitless right now

agreed, these terrorists plan things for months sometimes even years.
I only live 40 miles from London and I'm very concerned. Some people in my office have boyfriends and husbands up there. They are starting to get people out of London area by area and a group who attach themselves to Al Qaeda have admitted responsibility, whether it was actually them is another story. It's claimed that suicide bombers blew up the bus and maybe some of the tubes as well. This tells me that it was done by 'British Islamic Fundamentalists' because London has it's famours 'ring of steel', which is an enormous police and secret service network protecting Westminster and so on, it's no surprise really that they hit east, north and west London. The only way these fucks would get in would be to do it from within, that's what i think anyway. It's a sad day not just for the UK but for everybody.

I dunno.. I doubt it'd have anything to do with the Olympics at all. Such highly coordinated attacks would take awhile to plan. Who knows, maybe it wasn't even about the G8 meeting. Generally you'd think they'd try and strike at the least suspect moment, when everyone is off-guard. The security for G8 would be tremendous.

this came from a work colleagues boyfriend who is in London at the moment, right near Aldgate station, one of the stations that was worst hit.
I don't know if it is true but i would like it to be, cowardly fuckwits.
Eyewitness reports on the bus and tubes seem to point to suicide bombers and that's the way the terrotists do it, cowardly and unsuspecting.
I'm keeping up-to-date on Sky News. Although the website is slow because of the volume of people on there.

Seriously, London has put up with this stuff from the IRA for years, it's nothing that new. A lot of the younger Brits here won't remember the days of constant terrorism and huge explosions at the Arndale Centre in Manchester or in Warrington Town Centre - it's been nearly 10 years since the Good Friday agreement.
The big difference now is that multiple bombings have occurred on the same day and this massively increases the terror factor, ie, are there going to be any more and is it safe to go out? I hope that the answer to those questions is a resounding no and yes respectively but one can never be too sure in these situations.
We've dealt with it before, we'll deal with it now and we'll probably have to deal with it in the future, too. Britain's experience in this field holds us in good stead and I trust Tony Blair to act in our best interest and to provide the necessary support to victims.

I'm very glad you guys are all right. I agree that the numbers are fluctuating so much it would be wise to wait til the numbers are more stable.
Def, I'd just mentioned to Denny about Holland and then you said that about the alerts there.
I also think some of you are being dickish for your comments about how people look when faced with a tragedy of this magnitude. Leaders or not, they're still humans and not robots. I'm not trying to cause an argument, but that's just my opinion. I thought Blair looked like he was in shock understandably, and the rest were just standing there to show support and unity.

It might have been planned long in advance but waiting for an appropriate time... to coincide with the G8 meeting perhaps? I would think the news of the Olympic bid is just an unhappy coincidence.

Just seen that. So, atleast the 1,000 wounded aren't all serious.

This is a bit reminiscent of 9/11. All these people worried about friends and family that commute to and from the city. Anyway is al-Qaeda behind this (if such information has been discovered yet) and has any real vindication been made? (some suggested the G8 meeting and Olympic vote). Someone even suggested there might be bombs in all of the Olympic running cities thus to be detonated after the bidding, if that was true, that'd mean theres bombs in New York, and another terrorist attack there would be horrible. News coverage here is exorbitant in leaving out details, so I'm not too informed myself.
Take care to anyone in the UK. Hope you stay safe.

With all respect to those who've died in London, it doesn't remind me of all of 9/11. I remember watching it on the TV and being completely blown away (excuse the unfortunate terminology) by what I was witnessing.
Today? I've seen and heard worse death tolls due to acts of terrorism by the IRA. Not to say that this isn't a major incident, but we've had 30 years of being bombed by somebody or other so it's more a case of, "So it's started again, then?" than general fear. Londoners may disagree, but that's pretty much the consensus here at work.

Yea true, 9/11 had 3000+ deaths, and all the footage of planes hitting the towers and people jumping from windows, etc, etc, etc.
In other news: Just read that British travel stocks are beginning to fall already.
EDIT: Oh No! We're on ORANGE on our color-coded terrorist alert system

I know the whole IRA thing is one of Britain's biggest concerns. I'm just in shock because of this. I really hope for the best over there.
And comparing this to 9/11 is sort of stupid, but Kalmah's comparision of how the families feel is a good one.
I hope you bastards get the fucks who did this.

theres a few reasons for motiviation that i can imagine. bear with me here
1. G8 summit. (most likely) they want to discourage the meetings, show disapproval, whatever
2. Olympic vote (i doubt it) why would they much care about that
3. Overall attempt to discourage England's participation in the war in iraq. however, this was terribly poor planning. of course, england is now going to swing hard the other way, and this was basically a bloody way of raising morale
any other opinions on that?
and yes, the dangers not over yet but my guess is that this was just an isolated incident and another attack wont happen.
and john youre a tough bastard you know that

My good friend in India said there was a terrorist attack there the past couple days. I never heard anything about that. I wonder if that was Al Qaeda.
No, it's not on the magnitude of 9-11. It's still terrible.
IRA is pretty much centralized in an area and not worldwide is it? I think that's what makes the Iraqi terrorism so awful is because there's not really any safe place.

Not really, if I lived in London I'd probably be a bit more nervous. The closest bombing to Liverpool was Warrington (about 15 miles away) when the IRA put a bomb in a bin on the main high street while it was packed with shoppers. Liverpool didn't really suffer at the hands of the IRA because nearly every Scouser has got Irish blood in him or her. And they used the ferry terminal at the Pier Head as their means of entry onto the mainland.

IRA = Ireland, but maybe I misunderstood you. And the IRA has bombed places in the mainland, if I'm not mistaken, but I am not big on that whole affair. I know a little, but I won't make myself out as anything.

I agree. Shameful as it is....it's almost obvious.
Bush shames me as an American. His reactions and actions border on moronic. Bush is a low IQ moron parroting catch phrases and stammering saying "and uhh....and uh...."
I sense in Bush his glee and joy that attacks bring for it furthers his police state wet dream. Neo-Con wanker.
I know little of Blairs ideals and policys but do admire his obvious pain and compassion for his fellow citizens.

Blair seems really robotic on tv, i don't think he seems very sympathetic at all, his speech is always too split up, and too slow, its just like hes reading from an autocue too fast, so he has to wait for it to catch up.

I think he was just thinking about what he was saying as he was saying it. There's no way you can possibly be prepared to speak before so many when something like this happens. You'd have to realize details pertinent to the present situation. Bush looks like he'd just like to slap some people around which I can't say I blame hime for that.
Yeah, I knew IRA was Irish. It just happened to be near what I said about India.

this is a british problem and a british tragedy, that shouldnt be tarnished with the standard left wing buttfucking. why dont you blame everything in the world on bush in a different thread and just shut the hell up. jesus! i dislike bush on just about every policy but i know enough to just not talk about it. dont you liberal whining bitches ever get tired of your massive world wide circle jerk?

I agree. Any current event that liberal dickwads disagree with they automatically belt out the mantra "GEORGE BUSH IS RETARDED, ITS HIS FAULT"
Maybe the rest of the world hates us Americans because our heads are so far up our asses that we have to bring American issues into every conversation.
Anyway, I heard markets all around Europe are already beginning to dive. Is this some media over-exaggeration?

I hate to say it, but you're probably right. The only ones that wouldn't be too effected are isolated people who don't really have touch with the rest of the world. They aren't productive as far as anyone's benefit except themselves so they'll be left alone as they are.
I think America gets bashed mostly because it's all the bad stuff that gets publicized instead of good things. One day they ran a list of all the things the troops are doing with Iraqi people to help them and I was amazed myself. That stuff doesn't make for news though unfortunately.

Well, there are very few (I can only think of one group) almost completely isolated groups of people left. They'll still be affected by the rest of the world's actions though. Global warming will raise ocean levels for coastal people, and it'll change climates and rain patterns for those who rely on the land.

Personally, I don't think it would be right to bring a child into shit like this, which is one reason I'm still debating having kids (among other reasons, I don't want to act like terrorists are the reason I'm not having kids. )
Trans is right though. No matter how much we want it to, there is no way to stop it. Between america's fucked up dealings/policies with Middle Eastern countries, and helping the Jews in Israel (that was not a racial slur, and don't even start that shit again), and Great Britain taking a punch in the kidneys for backing our asses on this stupid war... One thing leads to another, and there is no telling what they'll try next. Its good to know that John and company are ok, but have we heard from Blizzard_Beast (one is from UK, unless I'm mistaken)? Sorry, don't mean to get everyone worried. Just babbling on.
Best of luck to everyone.

I don't know how they voted that man back into office. On behalf of Democrats and Independents every, I'd like to apologize.
But seriously.
And Kalmah, I saw BB's comments. I hadn't read the whole thread when I posted that.

While we don't know the reason these attacks were carried out yet, we do know that it quite possibly could be because of the war in Iraq. We are involved with that. Bush started the conflict, and got Blair involved, which obviously got the UK involved. So that is most likely how people connect these bombings and this country's moron president. I'm not saying its right, but its not totally wrong. Just leave this thread for all the Brits, and not our shitty government.

Just read about it.... Sad sad sad shit. The terrorists are learning how to play the gorilla warfare game. It's not just about killing the GI's. Suicide bombing civilians, kidnapping and killing foreign diplomats who's military is allied with the U.S. I see why Britian has been the target, one of the biggest U.S. allies. My condolences to Britian.

Guerilla*
They are not sending gorillas into England. They are sending 'guerillas' into England.

Dissection-- Oh heavens! That's not the way I saw it at all. But damn, thanks for the compliment! I don't hear that too often. lol
When I told my grandmother and her husband that I was pregnant with my first child the response I got from them right off the bat was how could I bring a child into a world like this. They warmed up to the idea soon though. I was totally dumbfounded when they had that response.
As far as not being sure if you'd want to have kids of your own there's a lot of kids already here that could use some love. I was one and so was my mom and grandfather so I'm very pro-adoption. It's something to seriously consider when you're ready for kids.

Horseshit.
Some "secret" jihadists claimed responsibility. Sounds almost silly... The Super-Secret Jihad Breakfast Clud (With Free Orange Juice)! Those guys have a branding problem.

Cheers you guys for the support. Glad to hear you London tabbers are ok.
I remember the IRA bombings and that was shit times, but at least the IRA rang up warnings before hand!
I guess I kind of knew it would happen one day, it was only a matter of time.
I just feel for those poor families.
Hats off to Blair for getting down to London, yeah he may have sounded robotic(he always does) but who knows how one of us would respond given the severity of the situation?
It would be nice if they got angry and shouted abuse at the camera aimed at these terrorist twats...but that ain't ever gonna happen!
Plus he plays guitar!!

I kept hearing reports of security breaches around england by reporters and shit. I don't know how true some of that was, but I was a little worried by it too.
And as for Blair sounding robotic: At least your Prime Minister knows how to speak, and the topic he is speaking on. Ours can barely form a sentence that makes sense.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I've heard David Duke say that, but thats a different story.
And sorry for the humor; trying to make the sad people around here a bit happier, or less sad.

what exactly is horseshit about what i said, farbeyond?
so voting once and shuting up about it isnt a good idea for 100% of society, but the kinds of people who are out there making changes to stop the current administrations work are those who gain my respect. the bush apologsits and whiners in my experience (i live in america, so i have much) are just making a fuss like a baby with a dirty diaper. if you dont like something bush is doing, do something about it. but dont constantly bitch.
those of you that are not bitching and still dislike bush , carry on
