Helping bro pick new guitar
Hey guys, my bro from back home is looking to get a new guitar (or possibly used from Ebay) he plays mostly melodic hardcore stuff....
This is what I have him interested in so far:
http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--IBARGT42DXFM
He is not really experienced at Whammys....but he said he is willing to learn
He said he wants either JB's (duncans) or EMG's, he doesn't want a lot of feedback (I told him thats a fact of life with high-gain though)
gimme some tips dammit

Hey, ... funny you chose that model. Was checkin out my new AMS catalog, and they got that model on sale! Check it out, it's a closing out sale. It's not the EXACT model, but still neck-thru, and all the goods! Plus, it's $200 cheaper. Hope this helps

Kinda funny you post that too, because that is my exact guitar. I wouldn't buy it again though, because I am fucking sick and tired of basswood....bleh..
Mahogany sounds like a much better choice to me....but it is ultimately up to him though.

the Jacksons and Schecters are awsome guitars, but from the way you described your friends style, i think he might like some Fenders too, a good Stratocaster or Showmaster maybe...

$600 and he wants EMG's? Hell, check this out: http://www.music123.com/ESP-EX-400-i126062.music (mahogany, EMG 81/60, was going to buy this but couldn't due to financial fuckups)
... or if he prefers strat shapes: http://www.music123.com/ESP-MH-400-i126067.music (with tremolo, EMG 81/85, mahogany, $600)
and
http://www.music123.com/ESP-MH-400NT-i126068.music (no tremolo), mahogany, EMG 81/85, $630.
The last 2 probably have the sound he's looking for (metalcore).
My friend has that very same Schecter C1 in 3-tone sunburst color. It looks so damned beutiful... sounds/plays like a dream too, extremely bright and nice cleans/leads and this is coming from someone who generally doesn't like strats/vintage looking instruments. That's probably not what your little bro would like though. I highly suggest the ESP's I mentioned.

Neck-thou with a maple neck and basewood body It must be like playing a 2x4 with whiped cream for a body.

The neck remains about the same width through the entire body in neck-thou guitars. Basically, the neck in a neck-thou guitar extends all the way through the guitar at the same width with the "wings" glued to the portion of the neck that is part of the body. Without the wings there would be no body of the guitar. There is 3 wood pieces to a neck-thou guitar; the neck and two wings glued to the neck that make up the body. The woods do not have to be the same.

Look into a relatively new brand called "Maverick" - In my opinion, they put Jackson and Ibanez to shame, in regards to the neck speeds and sounds. Look into the F-1 models. Only downside is on the older F-1 (though the new models are updated) has a badly designed input jack that seems to break a lot.
As standard, the maverick pickups seem stronger and have greater definition (especially on higher notes) than the EMG-81, and are only passive. This means, however, that the F-1 doesn't have enough room to host active pickups and their circuitory without additonal 'surgeory' though...
Best advice: Always play a guitar before buying it, don't buy one based on other people's comments or views.

Haha yeah a few years back... Wow I'm suprised anyone recognised it. I took a long time out due to bad RSI and some lame bone/joint condition I have that basically means my tendons etc havn't formed properly around joints so I'm kind of 'couble jointed' ina lot of places, and my joints randomly dislocate. It sounds worse than it is, it's quite a neat party trick.
Anyway... Back into playing now, and sick of all the other guitar forums I once used. Also, metal is for life, not just for Christmas :P
