Good on the pedals..
this thread is about the double bass drum..it is also in the drum zone
u know when u listen to a song..which is like metal death metal any kind of metal really..and u hear a really cool riff..and after a heavy session of music..it goes into a solo..and u hear the double bass drum pounding away..that really is cool...and i only know a couple of bands who do that which are slayer C.O.F killswitch and arch enemy.. anyone know any other bands that use ultra speed on the bass drums?!

yeah, fear factory, those guys use a double bass that goes 200MPH...
the've got SOME cool songs.
bands like Unearth, Caliban, Boy Sets Fire and Fetch also use really fast double bass, but Fear Factory really breaked the speed limit on those pedals.

Just look for records with the following drummers:
Dave Culross (Malevolent Creation,Suffocation)
Derek Roddy (Malevolent Creation,Nile,Divine Empire,HateEternal,Internecine)
Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel,Terrorizer)
Gene Hoglan (Death,StrappingYoungLads,Dark Angel,Testament,Daemon)
Kevin Talley (DyingFetus,MiseryIndex,Slayer next?)
Steve Asheim (Deicide)
Dennis The Menace (Macabre)
Nick Barker (Dimmu Borgir,LockUp,CradleofFilth)
Richard Christy (Death,ControlDenied,BurningInside,IcedEarth)
Sein Reinert (Death,Cynic)
Doc (Vader)
These, my friend, are the best drummers in the metal-scene. They each have their own styles and signature sounds but it's all on such an high level of skill ,that it's difficult to tell which of them is the better.
Rest assured, any record with one of those is doublebass heaven and much much more if you're prepared to listen to it.
I'll provide some mp3's might you doubt.

Wasn't Kevin Talley in Suffocation for a bit too? He fucking rules.

All I have to say is "ORIGIN"
John Longstreth (Eycoticy, Millennium, Malicious Intent, Angelcorpse) but most importantly his most creative work with ORIGIN!!!
Not only can he absolutely ripp at double bass, but he can also perform a single handed snare drum roll while doing double bass and hitting cymbals. You can imagine what kind of blast beats this guy is capable of, but then again, all of Origin is a blast.
I dont think many can handle the sheer brutality and technical speed of Origin, but here's a link where some songs can be heard:

no offense but don't u mean a drummer (not a double bass.....they can't move themselves) that can double kick at 200bpm, as opposed to MPH... (bps ofcourse meaning beats per minute, tempo)
And where can i find samples of this Origin band?

My picks for best drummers are:
(if i don't know the drummer's name, which is so in most cases, i just name the band)
Paul Bostaph (i think he was the best Slayer ever had)
Dave Lombardo (he was pretty good too)
Nile
Immolation
Gorguts
Cryptopsy (Flee or something right?)
Beheaded

Hey memnoch, we agree on something! Bostaph kicks Lombardo's ass all up and down any Slayer song. I'm a Lombardo fan on every record he was on but Bostaph just took it up another notch when he took over on Divine Intervention.
As far as double bass goes, Sandoval will always have my vote as #1 for style, creativity and speed. Hoglan is a God, as well as Derek Roddy, Kevin Talley is great and Dennis the Menace rules.
I read over at blabbermouth.net awhile back that Kerry King didnt think Kevin Talley was "ready" to be in Slayer. Not sure if I agree completely but hey I wasnt at the audition and I trust Kerry's judgment most of the time.
Steve Asheim, his performance on In Torment In Hell was weak, but still one of the death metal greats.

He's good and VERY fast but I find his blasts to be a little less consistent than say Dave Culross.
Paul Bostaph and Dave Lombardo: of course I like them but, in the opening post he said he already knew them so I didn't mention them.
I prefer Bostaph over Lombardo allthough I must say both have their strengths. Bostaph plays in a very modern way, heaps of fills and good doublebasses but Lombardo has this "oldschool" thrash touch. I like the albums Hell Awaits and South of Heaven best for Lombardo. Bostaph plays well on every album he's on. Don't forget his stuff with Forbidden, which is killer too.
Steve Asheim: yeah In Torment In Hell was not up to his standard but I think the production has to do with that. For some reason only his snare cuts through the sound, the rest is burried in the mix.
Kevin Talley: he was in Suffocation but he didn't record any stuff with them, only filled in for a couple of tours I think. On Kerry King: yeah he said Kevin wasn't ready for Slayer yet but I think it had nothing to do with his skills ,it was about his personality or something. Kerry did say that technically he had the whole package: arms and legs or something. He also said they had visited Richard Christy in FLorida and that he made an impression.

They're both very talented drummers......Lombardo did great work in the 80's and early 90's.
But like you said, i think Bostaph was able to take Slayer's drumming to a new level. I think diabolus and GHUA are 2 amazing Slayer albums for drumming. Bostaph's setup is great, he has the perfect sound for his drumming....he has great fills and lead-ins or whatever.....plus, i think he fitted in perfectly with the Slayer guys. (looking at slayer poster....)
The new guy Slayer has (don't know who he is or what.....just saw a small picture on slayer.net) looks like an idiot. The 3 originals look bad-ass and fucking pissed....while this guy doesn't fit it at all with this mood. He might be (and probably is, knowing Slayer) a wonderful drummer.....but he looks kinda gay. He'll have to prove me wrong.

uhm, you can find stuff off them on kazaa and all that shit, the band broke up a while ago.
but he does the double bass at 200mph that's a figure of speech you know, not that he actually does 200mph on his kicks...

200bpm is slow for a deathmetal drummer on the double bass-if it is all out speed that is desired- I can do 547bpm on a double bass pedal, and I am not even a drummer(only on guitar center's electronic drum sets). Triggers are really the key to playing extremely fast. Pete Sandoval kicks very softly which allows him to kick very fast. The bass drum is miked and then put through a processor (or something) which puts out a different sound, a sample, which is amplified so it appears to be louder. I have seen him do it live twice - its amazing. I would suspect Pete Sandoval could hit over 900bpm. The record currently goes to Tim Waterson who can hit 1100bpm. Here's a link: http://www.extremesportdrumming.com/score/feet.html
Origin did not break up by the way.
Origin samples, I will post the link again:
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/143...se_records.html
ON another note, Hellhammer is a good studio drummer, but when I saw him live with the kovenant he sucked nuts. I think he was drunk or something, or maybe it was the corpse paint.

Are you serious??!?!
Fuck....i thought they only brought him back for the tour last winter. I didn't think they were keeping him permanently.....i was almost positive i read something saying that Tom and others didn't want Dave back as the permanent drummer.
I remember seeing something on the site about Slayer needing a drummer and anyone who thought they were up to the challenge should send a tape or something of them playing to Slayer.
I ruled out Dave right away when i saw the pic......i didn't even think of him cause i was sure they weren't keeping him.
Fuck......this is news to me. The site said nothing about keeping dave either (neither did any newsletters i received.) Then again......i didn't really look far.

Alright.....must feel kind of shitty for Lombardo though, unless he agreed only to play for a little while.

I saw Lombardo with Slayer a few weeks ago on Ozzfest in Holland. Excellent show allthough he has some trouble with some Bostaph-songs. Payback is highly simplified and Stain of Mind wasn't the same either. The old Lombardo songs on the other hand RULE and are played note-perfect or even better.
Speaking of Slayer with Lombardo: I'm seeing them again tommorow on Graspop! It's going to be fun.

My top favourite would have to be Immortal because Hellhammer is one of the fastest drummers ever and I just love that song "Withstand the Fall of Time" If you dont have it go download it and if you do have it listen to it NOW!!!!!!!!! because I am.

Yeah man without a doubt hellhammer is crazy on the double pedals, but for speed and the technical side of it, as in the control of the pedals, i would also include mike portnoy(DT) and jason rullo(SymX), hmmm kinda surprised no one mention them.

joey jordison from slipknot, i dont give a fuk what anyone says that guy is fukn bad. I just got the slipknot dvd and it shows him playing double bass and hi hat at the same time, playin a double bass and hi hat using one foot. he has a drum solo on stage for like 3 minutes and the circular platform that hes on raises like 15-20 feet in the air and starts spinning and then tilts to a 90 degree angle while spinning so his body is facing the ground, then his platform turns into a bigass pentagram. its fukn bad. the whole time he's pounding away on the drums.the first time i saw it i was in amazment its the best part of the whole concert.

I saw him do that live when I saw them at the Pledge of Allegiance Tour, it was pretty fucking impressive, to say the least. The rest of the band might swallow ass whole, but the drummer is extremely talented.

fast double bass, sloth from sadistik exekution murders you all. unless you're not looking for that style of music, in which i would say anything by ray herrera, gene hoglan, dave lombardo, flo mounier, vinnie paul, per moller jensen, matt 'skitz' sanders.
