The future of Cryptopsy

I wanted to make this thread for a serious discussion about the future of Cryptopsy, in regards to Jon being gone. I was on the borderline of whether this was a stupid thread or not, but i really want to see other peoples opinions on where they will go.

Serious fans will realize that in the past, Jon did almost all of the writing... However, as Tim pointed out to me, he wrote to Flo's drums. Do you think Alex will be able to keep the goodness going?

I personally think he will. He's an amazing guitarist, and he has really cool hair. I sure hope he's able to keep the good times rollin.

Please, if you have nothing valid to say, don't post in my thread. If you don't like Cryptopsy, you have two options.

1) state why you dont like them
2) stay the fuck out of my thread.

They will keep it together. If they dont I hope they realize it and let it go, cus we want to remember cryptopsy for all of the awsome shit they did, not for the 3 albums they made that sucked ass while trying to hold it together. Cryptopsy will be cryptopsy, simple as that.

It will suck. I'm sorry, but after seeing Alex Auburn butcher all the solos off the None so Vile album live with his sloppy picking and neglect and dumbing down of the more difficult arpeggios I'm afraid to say that Cryptopsy should call it quits. I'll wait till teh new album to make a decision but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Dude, there's a hell of a lot more to their songs than the solos, we're talking about Cryptopsy here! I don't think he's as good in that department either, but if he wrote the solos on this album, chances are he can play them better than he could Jon's. I'm not expecting the solos to come even close to the epic ones in songs like We Bleed, Slit Your Guts and Benedictine Convulsions.

However, from a riffage point of view, Alex should have minimal problems delivering the goods. Flo will take care of all the fucked time signatures and weird riff start/finishes (the thing that I personally love most about this band), and don't forget Eric Langlois, he is one creative motherfucker.

Despite what a lot of people think, Jon didn't write almost everything riff-wise in Cryptopsy. I thought he did for a while as well, but I've since found out that's not the case. Don't quote me on this, but I think NSV was mainly Jon, while WS was mainly Jon and Eric, and ATYB was a mixture of everyone really, that's what I've read.

So, personally, I see a minimal need to fret about how this album will turn out. I understand you'd be more concerned DEAD, as you seem to love a good solo more than most, but Cryptopsy (at least instrument wise) has delivered every time in the past, and I can't see that changing.

And just out of curiosity Jacob, which was the album you actually liked? NSV I presume....

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but why did he leave exactly? His work was probably the best I've heard in a brutal death band, and Cryptopsy will surely be very different (and probably worse) with him gone. I do hope Mongrain joins permanently, as he was almost rated as highly as Jon in my books, and would be a much better lead than Alex.

I didn't like Carrion Shine but I've only heard it
two times. On the other hand I didn't like "And Then You'll Beg"
in the beginning and now it's my favorite
Cryptopsy album.
I'm optimistic about the new album though

So has i heard, i even thought Jon was in the band when carrionshine got relased Anyway, with Lord Worm back it will probably be good, the loss of Jon is (almost) justified by having Worm back.

Its not that I'm worried about his lack of soloing abilities, I'm just worriedhe wont be able to carry the weight of Cryptopsy on his shoulders. It is not an easy task with such a large part of a band leaves. I understand what your saying cloaca, but I guess I'm having doubts because of my disappointment live. Like I said I shall wait till the new album is release to pass judgement.

although i agree that Dan would be a good addition to Cryptopsy, for that to be, hed have to leave Martyr, and in turn, wreck a perfectly good band.

the next album probably wont be as good as NSV or WS but it deffinitly wont suck

A quick trivia question:

"What was the last album Cryptopsy recorded with only one guitarist?"

That's right motherfucker.

Live, I'm sure they'll get a second guitarist, apparently they've got some dude called Gary lined up.

"Jon Levasseur here writing to officially announce my departure from Cryptopsy. It is something I strangely felt coming on since a year prior to my departure (August 2004) as my inspiration for such extreme music was growing thin. After 10 years in the band, I now wish to step back, lay low and explore other things in music. Who knows, maybe one day this new chapter in my life could turn out into something interesting!"

Some classic guitar and tribal drums (I don't have idea how to call it in english) are going to be included on the new CD. Quite interesting. I hope it will be mixed with the song not like the didgeridoo on "Screams go unheard".

in an interview i saw with Lord Worm, apparently there are some issues releasing the album and he hopes for September. Theyll be touring in October with Suffocation though, should kick ass

sorry if you already knew

EDIT: in that interview Lord Worm was asked whether Daniel would be the full time guitarist he said he would want him to be but in Cryptopsy "Family comes first"... So yeah, no-one knows

Once again sorry if you knew

Bye-bye, Warlock Freak. Chris Banned you for a reason. You've removed it now, but putting "Banned to return" in your sig was probably not the brightest thing to do. Fucking idiot.

I can't remember - probably trolling, but ask Chris. I banned him again just now because multiple user accounts are not allowed, particularly if they are used to circumnavigate a permanent ban.

i am a huge fan of cryptopsy. none so vile was probably my favorite death metal album ever. the loss of jon is.. well, i dont know what the results are going to be. he was fucking amazing. i hope the band can pull through with a good album though, i think 'none so vile' sort of dwarfs all their other efforts...

i think mike fits and then youll beg, but for whisper (wich is my favorite cryptopsy album) i think worm would suit it better, well maybe not, but i sure would be interesting to see what it would sound like.. they have to mix the guitars louder though i think if hey redo whisper

No fucking way.... that album has a killer production, no doubt if they redid it, it would just be another album where the bass just gets shoved to the back of the line.

agreed, Wisper had a great production... if any album needs louder guitars its Blasphemy Made Flesh... its all fuzz and background noise

I think on the new album a few songs (esp. We Bleed) should be redone instead of making an entirely new album.

i agree here somehow.

worm is nice for some stuff, but i think disalvo puts WAY MORE agression and hate into the songs, thats the main thing i like bout whisper combined with that hatefull music imo

EDIT, id rather get into a fight with worm that mike

worm would probaly torture u, but mike?? oeh i wouldnt know, that would b nasty

i think if they redid blasphemy i'd kill someone. thats a classic album! the fuzzy guitars are kickass, and lord's vox will never be the same.. it was awesome. NSV was the best tho.

I don't care for Blasphemy,too generic imo.

(that above comment about disalvo was aimed at one of my friends who comes by here sometimes, not newhellonearth, your cool man.)

The only thing I dislike about BMF's production is the lack of volume when played against other Cryptopsy albums.

Nah, ATYB's production was clear and pretty even, but it lacked the Cojones of WS.

How could they top perfection? In my eyes, We Bleed is their zenith up to now.

Exactly. One of their songs that Disalvo did great. But shroud for example would be better with LW vocals IMO.

off topic.. but did you know there is also a band/ was a band called Kryptopsy...

I only know because i read the credits of Breeding The Spawn - Suffocation.

Kryptopsy must/mustve been so underground in 1993.

and btw, Shroud is a really awesome song IMO. The vox brutallity contrasts the guitars - you know what i'm saying?

Yeah I'd noticed that too, I assumed that it was the same band, and they changed the spelling of the name soon after.

are you sure Cryptopsy were around in 1992..? like that wouldve been very early for them considering their album release.

Not at all. Two years is a long time, is it?

Many bands have gone for ages before releasing their first albums.... Defeated Sanity for example came into existance around 1997-98 I believe, but didn't release an album until 2004.
