right pickup for me?

Ok i just won an ibanez RG 550 and im going to have to at some point replace the bridge pickup if not the neck too.

Ive playeda fair amount of pickups, and im thinking id like to try a dimarzio this time.

I was thinking the X2N, but def recomended the tone zone.
also what is the Bill lawrence XL 500 like.?

Im looking for something that can be toneful but also sterile if i need it to be, im not sure what im even sure if im going to use this guitar for death metal or not, but id like it to versitile so most styles of metal sound good on it.

anyways post opinions

I'm going to go with BLS on this one. I think you might like the EVO. It has what I think you are looking for.

Congrats on the guitar btw

I have a Tone Zone in my Jackson and love it but it's all about personal preference. I've only heard my friend play an evo, so i dont have any first person knowledge of how versatile it is, but I liked it too. Dont think you can really go wrong either way.

Gratz on the win.

i have an X2N in my schecter. the thing is the definition of a rip-your-balls-off pickup. If you want cleans, DONT GET THIS PICKUP. it SLAMS the front end of your preamp/head and doesnt stop fucking.

very true, so mix it with a creamer type pickup I have mine with a dimarzio paf pro and it sounds awsome with both distorted or clean, but just the x2n alone sounds shit for cleans thats it only downfall

the X2n does have coil tap abilities though, which makes it slightly better for clean instead of just using it in full humbucker mode

+1

i'm still not found of using bridge pickups for cleans though. something about the position of the neck pickup just makes it seem softer and fuller.

Depends on what you want your 7 to sound like. I use Blaze 7s on mine.

I like the use my bridge for cleans, gives me a very how can I say it... umm its a pleasing sound with the Blackmore.

I like the EVO7 alot, its articulate.. which is great for the Low B.

Yea, I have to use bridge for cleans (atleast when using my ran) cause im a fucking retard jackass. But thats another story. I can get it to sound good, but my '59 on my LP makes a much warmer, milky sound...... milky..? never used that to describe a pup...meh.

And yea articulate is what i would want, i dont want a muddy invader type nu-metal sound thats all so very typical when 7-strings are used these days. Marcel Coenen can rip up a mother fucking 7-string to pieces, and make that low-b on rythems sound damn good. Ill have to look into a good 7 strnig neck pup. The s7420 is wierd, im posotive it has to have split coils, because its got a 5-way selector for 2 hums. If i get these new pups i might have to get a 3 way switch selecter to replace that five way.
