Miasma? Review

Anyone got it yet? When you do, discuss, in a mature way people.

To be honest with you, I don't think any other album has shown so much maturity has this has. I'm not going to urge people to download it, but those who wouldn't usually go for the Black Dahlia Murder, it is so many classes above the old album. Maybe a bit easier to tab, but most core/root death metal bands are.

__________________________________________
Anyway, personall orgasmic review.

The second album from Motor City's prime cut metal band, "Miasma" - BDM, could not be a more complete modern day death metal album. Heard the new Berzerker? Forget it, these kids shit on it. Though, I'm only saying that from hearing one new Berzerker track, but on the basis of that track and hearing the whole of "Miasma", and not just comparing it to The Berzerker but older death metal bands like At The Gates - (Terminal Spirit Disease, Slaughter Of The Soul era), Carcass (Heartwork) and even bands such as Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation, these 20 somethings have reached a peak they'll probably never experience in their musical path ever again.
"Miasma" sets apart the current wave of American - Euro influenced death metal by a shot so far it's gone through your head 5 times round the globe. The intro track is more breakdown than 'Unhallowed'("Unhallowed), which leads into "I'm Charming" - (broken relationship influenced song). There is more of a ryhthmic esence to "Miasma" with triplet type notetation appearing ever more through the album, none some more apparent than "I'm Charming", "Statutory Rape" and "A Vulgare Picture". The musical relationship between each member of the band, none more so than the two guitarists, has developed into a euphoric sense of "fuck it, play this" - "nah fuck it play this over it" - "shit yeah" - "now lets play it two times fuckin' faster". The guitars seem much, much, mcuh more heavier than " Unhallowed ", from what I've guessed from tabbing (without guitar, just Power Tab & other Midi Software) they are far far more lower noted, (less then their "2nd C", for the untrained guitarist BDM usually used around the 2nd C or above for the basis of their songs), leaving a much more heavier heavier hook to a song, or even the whole song itself. The influences for the guitarists couldn't be more obvious, hints of "Slaughter Of The Soul" and the "Heartwork" EP seep through in ever hook of each song.
Whilst 19/20 year old Zach Gibson pounds away at a speed not heard of on "Unhallowed". FUCKING YOUNGER THAN ME! CUNT After seeing videos of this kid live I thought he was never going to make it in this band, when I build a time machine I'm going to go back and punch myself, then kill myself so I don't ever publish that on the internet.
Anyway, there are more breaks in some of the songs that wouldn't seem apparent they could do listening to "Unhallowed", songs like "Statutory Rape" & "Miscarriage" are evident enough of this, whilst traks like "Miasma", "Novelty Cross" and "Spite Suicide" show BDM's true path od Death Metal.
The lyrics are far, far, far more better. They no longer seem to be about just plain black and white situations or topics. More so Trevor seems to of mixed two kind of real life to fantasy topics into one song, no more obvious of "A Vulgare Picture" - I'm guessing about zombies and some dudette - could be wrong (the personally part!!!!!)
Also, Trevor's vocal's seem to be alot less more dulled down, by that I mean the high pitched stuff is alot more higher and clearer, and far more extreme. It does even sound like he's about to rip his throat apart during some of the longer screams.

If you compare this album to other kids of their age, BUT NOT OF THE SAME GENRE, (eg Decapitated), and put each second album head to head....The Black Dhalia has destroyed Decapitated in a more mature sense of the word. Miasma seems to be heading toward of a more advanved "Nhilist" / " Terminal Spirit Disease" type album, mixing two types of death metal genres into one, with no complaints, since it's hard to hear the difference unless listening to it non-stop for 24-hours and having those other albums in your mind.
All in all, "Miasma" is at the forefront of 21stC death metal, not only does it show how one band can easily evolve into a complete death metal outfit, it raises the bar for those would-be bands to even think about topping it, and even (IMO) I doubt even bands like Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Slayer could have this type of album in their back-catalouge, now matter what they have done or what they could do. Which says everything about how much these YOUNG CUNTS have evolved.

(p.s. If only Decapitated could of done this)

I loved Unhallowed. Had there not been tabs for every song i would have tabbed the entire album. But now that I've heard Miasma I can't really go back and listen to Unhallowed with the same enthusiasm that I used to.

They've completely re-defined themselves on this album. It's heavier, darker, and much more original IMO. The band sounds more as a whole, unlike some parts of Unhallowed. I don't know if they put more money in the production of this album (probably), or they wrote the music with the purpose of more flowing transitions and deadly riffs that just sound better together.

Altogether, I think they've done well with this album, and its hard to categorize them as hardcore/metalcore like some people did with Unhallowed. I think this album is leaning much more towards death metal than anything. I think that they wanted some more respect for this album than they got with Unhallowed, hence the more darker, death-like sound. I would recommend at least a short listening of the the album to anyone who listens to metal.

I don't like the new album, but I do like that Myrmidonlord summed up his attitude to all music outside of his bubble right here: 'I haven't heard it and don't know who it's by, but it sucks anyway.'

I thought English was SARS' native language.

I havent listened to Miasma as an ablum too much, but the one track that sticks out to me is "Im Charming" definetly the best track on the album in my opinion. Althought the solo in the song isnt no Yngiwe Malmsteen spectacular it fits perfectly, not to mention its got a pretty nice riff throughout the song.

I still prefer Unhallowed as an album, but then again i havent give Miasma much chance yet.

for an instant i thought you were talking about Hecate Enthroned's Miasma. Hah, that'll be the day.

As for The burnt dahlia burger, i dont like them so much. some good parts, but lots of boring parts. Ill listen to them, but not purchase the cds.

I think it rocks, cool riffage, it sounds a lot darker than the previous which isn't bad. Their tone is pretty heavy to

Has anyone already tabbed some songs of it?? I would like to see tabs from 'novelty cross' and 'flies'
