Sanding the neck on a faded flying v

Well before I got my Gibson Faded Flying V, I heard a lot of good things about it, except that it's neck had really rough edges that might require sanding. I finally got the guitar (it's awesome, btw) but I know what they mean, it is pretty rough. So suppose I wanna sand down the neck...any special way at which I should go about doing this, or should I just get some sandpaper and sand it like any other piece of wood?

I personally shave the necks on every guitar that I own.

Use very coarse sandpaper to take off the bulk of what you want to remove, and use a very fine thin sandpaper to smooth it down and make sure that its even.

Just sand with the grain and don't take to much. Take it as slow as you need to and remember to not touch the raw wood with dirty hands. Use tungs oil once you got it the way you like it to protect it.

Remember! Slow and easy over time will give a better result then hacking at it with a chisel.
