Ibanez RG's play fast as fuck with those Wizard necks... The RG321 is slightly over 200€, and has a Wizard II neck, but the stock pickups aren't anything great.

Get an cheap acoustic with ultra heavey strings and high action. Your playing will improve 10 fold.

buy a walmart guitar(hardly $20) buy new pack of accostic strings. and dont put on the e. put the b and tune it up to e, the then put a g were the b usually is, then put the D where the g is usually, put an A were the d is usually, put a E were the A is usually at, then put another E were the E is supposed to be. put it in standard tuning, and u got a guitar that will really work on ur speed, bends, vibratos.

do it anyways:yes

fast amps slow amps fast guitars slow guitars
dont flame i know there are diffrences in speed as far as necks etc are concerened blabla
play on the guiatar you want to play and practise on this guitar. the more familar you get with an instrument the better you will play on it. the theory buying a guitar which has a bad quality makes you playing better on high standard instruments is up to my mind nonsense. you rather get used to playing the cheap guitar and may have disavantages through that. the fact that you have to practise harder on some instruments to get a technique down has nothing to do with your skill improvement. youre just playing on an uncomfortable istrument could even make you change your technique and cost you trouble on your "better" instruments. Apart form the fact that im not giving much in my theory as well i wouldnt recomment buying a crappy guitar in order to imrpove your skills.
just a short and plain example for that
i had that old acoutic guitar from my mum when i was 12 or 13. the guitar was about 20 or even 30 years old. the frets were so fucked up that i had pull down the strings so hard in order to get a clean tone. when i was playing on my first electric guitar ( i was about 16 years old) i had to learn to play the notes i wanted to play cuz i pulled the strings so hard that no clean notes came out.
the thing that dead alrdy mentioned .... playing on .12 string gauge will definetly improve your bending strength etc... if your used to play on .9th but thats a whole different story. has nothing to do with the instrument. just with the strings on it. thats to diffenent pairs of shoes
hope that helps you out

basicaly what i mean is, i have a jackson usa guitar, wich plays rilli smooth fast easie and all that, but say i play some legato shit on a crap guitar wich isnt as smooth and there fore will use a bit more fingerstrength to make it sound right, its most obvious to me that this will improve legato on my jackson usa, since ur fingers are getting stronger then.
atleast thats what i think
i use to play my mates crap guitar sumtimes and then i got home and my own axe felt so fast and nice, and usualy it made me play nicer on my own after playing his piece of chit.
bout the strings... i play 011 in D sumtimes 11,5 in D
so my bending strength is no problem

get your self a nylon string classical guitar.
and yes, your theory is correct to an extent. for example, if you have a guitar thats unbelievably fast and easy, you get lazy.
but on a nylon stringed guitar, you need to put more effort in to make the notes sound. so when you go back to your nice guitar, you will be putting 110% effort needed to make the notes sound nice. ergo, your playing sounds nicer, ergo you can play faster, ergo blah blah blah.

That's so not true, the strength of your hands will increase, but it's not gonna make you a better player. With no cut-away (maybe), and with strings that have really high tension and high action, you're not gonna be doing fast runs and bends like you do on an electric.

sry and no offense to you mate but thats bullshit.
...
i agree with the nylon strings and the legato playing ... its basicly the same idea i mentioned before with changing to thicker strings. but i'd rather pratise on a clean and very dry tone or change strings. just up to your taste.

my left hand has got very lazy since i got an ibanez with a wizard neck thing and amazingly low action.
i went to play my nylon string for the first time in about 2 years not so long ago, and i felt like i was just starting again. all the notes came out rattling and buzzing and muted. i had to really think and concentrate to get it sounding nice.
sort of the opposite of what k13m is asking.
offense? you bastard i hope you burn in hell aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!

Hence why I'm so glad I started out on an acoustic for a year and now I'm getting my electric. Joy.

Umm maybe you dont do fast runs and bends on an acoutsic but I do.
See the whole concept is you already know the techniques on electric but you practice them on an acustic with high action/thick strings so when you go back to electric it is much easier and you are much faster at it.
Check out Al Di Meola and come back and tell me you can't do fast runs on an acoustic.

Obviously I didn't mean every single thing. But does everyone have cutaways on their acoustics? How the hell are you suppossed to play stuff on like the 20th fret? Quit taking whatever I say so literally and just get the overall idea of it.

I'm sorry that I assume you mean what you say. Just admit you were wrong instead of saying you didnt mean what you said.
