question
I'm a guitarist to start off. I'm just looking for some information to expand my knowledge of things. But with fretless basses, how do you find your tone ? You can't just say pick the E string at the 18th fret. Do you have to guess where it is ? This may sound all dumb. How do you read tabs etc.
I searched through the forum but I didn't found an answer.

You know how there is dots along the side of your guitar's neck? Fretless basses still have those.

How do violinists know the notes? They take the time to learn. Usually from a music teacher.

A lot of fretless basses still have the frets marked by lines on the neck, as well as the dots up the side of the neck.
Cheers
