Odds are that if you take the strings off of your guitar, boil them, and then try to restring the guitar with the same strings; more than one is going to break in the restringing process.

Christ, what're all these ridiculous questions coming from?? If you wipe your strings down with guitar polish and a nice thick cloth after every time you touch the guitar, you'll have good strings for maybe months.

yeah. i dont change my strings untill they make my fingers smell. wash before playing. dont even bother wiping it down, i sure dont. but my hands are clean before playing
cmon now, its 5 dollars or a time consuming gross process

I can relate. There were times I didn't even have 50 cents to replace a pick.
My advice: Don't bother. Drink a few beers less in the weekend and buy a new pack, or play your crummy old strings. It's not like their broken right?

There were times when I was so poor that I had just enough money to eat for the week. To bad I would just have to suck it up and be hungery because I would get guitar strings instead.
Even if I starved to death in the street my body would be found with a perfectly polished guitar with new strings |

I agree with the n00b. Now, I know that some people have serious money problems, and can't afford much else other than neccessities. But when you put your "friday night recreation;" which is undoubtably getting drunk in a parking lot a-la 'Heavy Metal Parking Lot;' in front of your guitar, thats sad man.

Wipe your strings with a cloth to take away the sweat from them than wipe a little bit of oil onto a cloth and wipe your strings. That will prevent your strings from rusting and make them last months and it makes your strings shiny. It also makes you play faster cuz the strings become easier to play. That is what I do.

And the best part of boiling strings is that once your done, you can spike the mucky broth with some scotch. Two birds with one stone- Clean strings and some bubbling, homemade "friday night recreation" for your troubles.

well i just want the new sound of my strings back, my strings are fairly new. i tend to play with dirty fingers alot to so i want to clean them up. i can of course spare 5 bucks but i have other things to worry about also. and who said i was getting drunk everything cost money these days........actually i am getting drunk but i can afford strings just i dont think its time for new ones. |
