Kind of pickups some DM bands use?
I've been wondering what kind of guitar pickups some brutal death metal bands use in their recordings. Bands like Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, Decrepit Birth, Wormed, Gorguts, Cryptopsy, similar bands and grindish stuff are what I'm interested in.
I'm assuming many of them use EMG actives. But not all of those bands I mentioned have that Obituary and Vader-like sound, anybody know what pickups they use?
Also, does anyone happen to know what gear(guitars/pickups and amps) Morbid Angel used in the recording of Altars of Madness? I'm very curious...

I think the Vader vocalist has an 81 in the bridge, no neck pickup i believe

On Altars Trey used a BC Rich Ironbird but he's modded the fuck out of it. the photo of Richard shows him playing what looks like a custom BC Rich. Not sure about amps, but Trey probably used a Marshall

Yeah, I knew about Peter's guitar... 81 on the bridge. Mauser uses a 81/85 combo. So do many other oldschool DM bands like Obituary and Cannibal Corpse. I'm more curious about bands like Decrepit Birth and Suffocation, amongst the other ones I mentioned, but thanks for the attempt.
You wouldn't happen to know what pickup that was on Altars? I know he's been using that Ironbird for ages. I'm just curious if he uses actives at all. I've seen him use some oddly colorful strat in some very old pics, but I couldn't make out what the pickup was. I believe MA printed what gear they used in the Domination album booklet. Maybe someone who has a copy of Altars can check? I would go and buy the album myself, but I'm fucking broke at the moment, the only cash I have is to see Krisiun/Incantation/Hate Eternal this weekend. :P

i personally like the combo of duncans, jb/jazz, for dm, i dont like actives, the sound is so plain

Jack Owens has always used DiMarzios I think. I don't know what model though. Might have used duncans too though.

When i saw them, he was having problems with his main guitar, it was a dime shaped one (don't know the actual name), i can't remember the make though, but he switched to a Fernandes during the show, i'm pretty sure he had EMG actives too, neck and bridge though
