I don't know if i should post this in the vocals or guitar forum, so if i'm wrong just move it. Well here's the problem:

I need to know how to play complicated riffs and sing at the same time. Cos when i try to i always lose the beat and the riff gets all messed up. Anyone who can give me some tips or lessons maybe?

Practice.

yep definitely practice...don't try to do both until you can play the riff (song) all the way through without even thinking about it that much

learn to not look at the guitar also so you can focus on the vocals more.

As the others have said, it is all simple practice And as rapeandruin said about learning the guitar part effortlessly, you need to be able to sing it correctly too and remember all the words

I too have tried it and alway get thrown off the track on the jamming.

But I never pushed the issue as I have no desire to sing....but it is odd.

Its a really hard thing to get used to aye? I find myself singing at the same time as the guitaring, which is usually wrong.

What i found was an easy to practice is to slow down the song while you play and sing it. Once you can sing/play it slowed down, build it up.

It's called practice. And you start out with easy songs to play and sing to, and not trying to sing along to songs like Kissing the Shadows while playing the lead.

It was a bitch to learn indeed. But with most songs the lyrics are kinda the same as the rhythm guitar. So it gets really easy. My band and I play a "death metal" version of metallica's master of puppets. And I do vocals and guitar and singing and playing was a real bitch at first but after a week or so playing the song and singing everyday it got real easy

for the stuff i do, ill usually have two guitar parts, one being much simpler than the other, i do the simple stuff and the vox, and when i get a band, the other guitar player will do the more complicated stuff.
like they have stated, know the guitar part to where you dont have to think about it is the best way to do it, what i am doing right now is doing growls that would be how i want the vocals to sound, and i figure if i can do that, then why cant i do words in there too

It's not diffucult. When you do them both at the same time, I focus on the singing, not the guitaring. It's easier to play riffs to lyrics instead of vise versa.

i sometimes play guitar and talk to some guy in my rom at the same time, maybe thall help aswell.. but definatly be able to play the riff, without thinking, just play it
