Upgrade time....
Hi.
Right now I use an Ibanex RG470( the superseded model with the crap trem) with a Peavey Rage 158 ( I've been playin' for 3 yrs, and have used the amp for a long time.) I have funds of 900 dollars australian, and I've been wondering whether I should go for the Line 6 Spider, or a Marshall Valvestate? Is the Valvestate going a bit too far?
Thanks.

three years with a rage 158? wow
both line 6 spider and marshall valvestate will be a big upgrade from a rage 158.. , but I think you could buy much better stuff than both these two amps

stay away from marshall valvestate?
do you just want a practice amp or something that can compete with a drummer?

Yes, and he's in Perth, which is on the west coast, so it will cost even more for shipping. Therefore eBay.com is out of the question too, unless there's a rare occurance of someone selling an Engl e530 on ebay.com.au
I don't know of any Engl supplier in Perth, though. It might cost a bit to ship an Engl from the east coast.

Thanks for all your help fellas...I'll definitely take these into account...
Oh, and for the record, Perth has one of the worst metal scenes in the world. I'm 14, and I'm the only one in my school (Trinity College, just to plug it ...)-apart from a year 12 (last yr of school) guy that listens/even knows about death metal.....mostly mainstream/Top 40 stuff is the thing round here. Most of them seem to think Slipknot is the most br0000tal band on the planet.....they also think Metallica use death growls....... Anyway. This, combined with many other factors, is why Perth is known as Dullsville by the rest of Aus., as you'll probably know, Overmind.
Again, thanks!!!

Well, good to see they're being exposed to it. An acquaintance of mine often says "metallica are shit, they were always shit" when he has literally only heard St. Anger. But, as I said, good that they're being converted over where you are, hahahahahaha ......slowly but surely....
I went to the trouble of getting a friend to burn Blessed Are the Sick for someone. First they said they liked it. Weeks later, they said it was all a bunch of stupid growling. He thinks he's a good guitarist too (never even heard of sweeping, tapping, hell, he doesn't even use a pick and he thinks he's brutal). Trey Azagthoth would kick his ass...
* visualising Trey's mighty ass-kickeage*

Actually dude that'd be pretty wicked my guitar teacher brought some amp in that he made. All tube, hand wired and cheap as hell. He called it Chuck or something of the sort. Anyway i'm sure that you could find some sort of amp kit on the internet that would suit your needs.

Yeah there are lots of kits to build your very own amp. Some of them don't look bad at all either but nothing with high watts. Just practice amps.
I can even build my own effects pedals and pedal switch boards too The Navy did give me that ablilty. Complete electronics understanding.

Awesome. The closest I've come to that was the electro-tech class I took last term. But I failed that
